I know we have good signings and all... but 9 players on the pitch? Unless I missed something.

Also, if we have another make-shift right back situation again this season I'm going to stab myself (no disrespect to Jeremy, he was the best option we had and did alright given the circumstances).

We now seem to be putting together a really solid defence with the new signings.

But... Smeltz still looks very lonely up front.

We desperately need a top class striker so we can always play 2 specialists up front, and not Smeltz and some poor midfielder who's pushed forward, out of position, to try and help him out.

The key word here is specialist, a pro with a proven track record who can work with Smeltz to give us the sort of strike power we'll need if we really are going to be a top 4 prospect.

Remember, while we're strengthening our team, so is every other A-League club.

So we not only have to plug the glaring gaps we found last season, we have to lift our game to match the higher standard of football every other team is planning to play.

yeah i agree, the "d" is looking a lot more solid, but with a solid back four surely we can afford to put two strikers up front!!!

Smeltz is a good poaching striker, holds the ball well, is always in position. But even he'd admit he's never going to be the fastest stricker in the League. We need another striker to complement Smeltz's skills. Someone quick and agile who can play off Smeltz holding play. Good in the air, shoots with either foot etc. Easy to find if you have millions to spend...tough on a A-League budget, even under marquee status.

Agree we should check out Argentina....some tough bastards there...plus high skill levels!!!!

What about the people not facing the computer?

I thought it strange that you were putting Durante on the left too, until I saw this reply. The problem with reversing the order is that only you know for sure you've done it. Perhaps you should have put the keeper on the bottom and worked up towards the forward line!

Phew. i thought he had smeltzy in goal with moss playing the lone strikers role for a minute there.

looks good Jaza! Barbarouseos could easily fill the CF role with a bit more exp. Ferrante is a real strong midfield sub too!

Try Dodd at right back (or Mck or Dur). I think he'd be ok. That was we dont need to shaft Siggie who is expecting an offer. Spend our money on a mint striker

Ferrante isn't actually a footballer.

Will Dodd be around after such handsome sums spent on two other CBs?

And you've obviously missed all the talk of Ricki wanting to play 4-4-2 then because he isn't going to play a 4-5-1 when he has openly stated he wants to play attacking football

[QUOTE=Feverish]

Ferrante instead of Brown

So who is your ball winner/defensive midfielder then.....?

No ball winner = no possession. Ferrante is a distributer not a ball winner. I'm tired of recanting that line....

I'm sorry to take a shot but have people switched off their football brains in this post? Stop trying to put people on the park for the sake of it and think more of how they fit into the dynamics of the team with the skills they have and the roles that are required to be filled on the park. I got tired of people last year saying that Felipe should have played along side Smeltz. They are totally conflicting styles and Smeltz needed a speedy guy to run off of him and onto balls and strike where as Felipe liked to run with the ball at feet and at the defense.

Neither Dodd nor Durante is going to be a marauding right back who can put in quality crosses going forward. Durante in particular would be wasted going forward when our biggest problem is in central defence and he has proven that he is one of the best in the league in this position. Both would also be too slow. Far too often during the season our right backs would get skinned by the pacy youngsters that A-League sides always seem to have down their flanks. Dodd or Durante at RB would not solve this issue. Our new RB must either have suffienct pace or excellent positional sense and sound defensive qualities to protect our right side while also being able to support Leo going forward.

here's what I would like to see:

============Mossy============

New RB===Durante==McKain/Dodd==Lochy

==========McKain/Brown=========

Leo======Ferrante/New CM=====Daniel

=====Smeltzy=====Costa/New CF====

Brown certainly has alot to prove and I don't know how much game time Aloisi and Johnson are going to be able to command. I don't know how much of a DM Mckain is but if he does start primarily at center back Dodd may have to work hard to secure his spot. Also, I would like to see Daniel positioned more centrally (I have doubts about his pace down the flanks) and another left winger brought in. Pacy support for Smeltz is also a must find.
