So, I have been a gold member since the first season. Renewed every year, and each year I have queried the value more and more.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a "why do I bother going to the game" thread. I am happy to go and pay for a ticket on each occasion if that was the only option, but I buy my membership out of a commitment and loyalty to the club.
What I am getting increasingly annoyed about is the fact that I pay upfront for all the games. Then the Phoenix regularly make a 'buy an adult ticket and get x kids in free' offer.... and my membership doesn't count as that adult ticket (I am an adult, honest - even though I may not be acting like one now), so I have to pay again, or just pay for my kids to come. Eitherway, as a member I pay more to enjoy the same privilege than a casual attendee.
For the fury game, Phoenix are offering a 'buy one ticket, get one free'. Granted, I haven't checked, but I doubt I'll be able to rock-up to ticketek and get a free ticket on the back of my membership. Likelihood is that I'll have to pay again.
As mentioned, I will always go to the games, and I certainly don't buy the membership for the value it brings over a season, as that is negligible. But more and more I am starting to think members (or at least this member) are not getting the reward that their loyalty, and the pre-season fund raising the membership generates for club, deserves.
Granted it is a bit of rant, but am a tad hacked off. So there.
Danny, I understand your frustration and you questioning why you are a member but you and all the members are the lifeline of this club. By buying a membership you are supporting the club and helping it financially and I am sure you are very appreciated by the club. The way the membership was constructed you ended up getting like 2 or 3 games for free if you compare it to buying a ticket at the gate for every home game. Since day one the Phoenix has had a free kids day each year which is usually the first home game of the New Year. This is a special gesture to get kids at the game during the Christmas holidays. I think this offer is a good initiative to get as many people to Westpac Stadium for the NQ Fury game as it will be the final game to be played in Wellington this season. You should contact the club to see whether your membership allows you to participate in this offer. Hopefully it does. I hope you continue your membership next year and beyond.
