Free Tickets - So why am I a member?

So, I have been a gold member since the first season. Renewed every year, and each year I have queried the value more and more.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a "why do I bother going to the game" thread. I am happy to go and pay for a ticket on each occasion if that was the only option, but I buy my membership out of a commitment and loyalty to the club.

What I am getting increasingly annoyed about is the fact that I pay upfront for all the games. Then the Phoenix regularly make a 'buy an adult ticket and get x kids in free' offer.... and my membership doesn't count as that adult ticket (I am an adult, honest - even though I may not be acting like one now), so I have to pay again, or just pay for my kids to come. Eitherway, as a member I pay more to enjoy the same privilege than a casual attendee.

For the fury game, Phoenix are offering a 'buy one ticket, get one free'. Granted, I haven't checked, but I doubt I'll be able to rock-up to ticketek and get a free ticket on the back of my membership. Likelihood is that I'll have to pay again.

As mentioned, I will always go to the games, and I certainly don't buy the membership for the value it brings over a season, as that is negligible. But more and more I am starting to think members (or at least this member) are not getting the reward that their loyalty, and the pre-season fund raising the membership generates for club, deserves.

Granted it is a bit of rant, but am a tad hacked off. So there.

The reward for your loyalty is that the Nix continue to exist and Terry doesn't have to go to jail for not paying his taxes.

i agree, we as members should be given some of these deals.

Im fine supporting the club, but the way we are going to get bigger in the longterm, is by getting more members, and to do that we need to attract them with great deals for members, rather than just deals for the casual supporters.

This week you get two for the price of one, but if you a member you also get...
make it enviable

I be less peeved if we still at least got a fixture list fridge magnet, 2 rubber bangles and a club crest members pin.

You can bring all you the free kids you want - I know I'd prefer my club branded members merchandise!

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

I agree with Danny whole heartedly.
Members should be given the same promo's as everyone else.
I'm taking 3 extra's on sunday, but don't get 2 for 1 with the two season tickets we have, so we have to buy 2 more tickets.
If you could present your membership card & get a free ticket I'm sure that would bring even more people in.

Yes, I will be buying a season ticket again next season, & for my daughter.

My very first Phoenix game was in Dec 08 when they had a 2 for 1 deal and members got an extra ticket as well. Has anyone actually confirmed that members are missing out this time?

You can see that they want to get people through the gate but it shouldn't be doing it to the detriment of the members. Its a shame if they aren't even listening to you about these concerns. (not just the 2 for 1's but everything)

I know we have similar issues at work with our subscription packages and our marketing guy tries not to undervalue it as it needs to remain an attractive option to keep getting people back on it.

Maybe someone at Nix HQ needs to have a bit of a think about what they want. 5000+ paid up members + the knowledge you have that income there or the worry of not knowing how many punters are going to turn up each week.

They are going to have to think about it for next season. With the egg chasers having the stadium locked up for weeks its going to be interesting to see what we get in the way of a draw and home games as in home not home/away.

Wonder how many inaugural members have retained their memberships.

The six week lockdown period of Westpac Stadium also affects most other suitable venues in NZ...even Ring of Dirt etc
Surely over that time we would play away matches so that for the rest of the season there would be more home games ....which would be better for us, yes?

1. these deals are not all that regular mate
2. you are NOT paying more, youre paying far less. do the math.

if you rocked up to the gate and bought a gold ticket every week, and thus able to take advantage of this 2 for 1 and the occasional free kids ticket, or whatever, next to what youre currently paying for a membership youd be paying through your ass.

take into account the dodgy ticketek booking fee as well which is at least $50 a year. i would know, i bought individual silvers for two seasons before becoming a silver member. the membership i dont regret.

AJ13 is right, the deals don't come very often.   The thing is when the deals come, they need to be advertised a hell of a lot better.

But members should get a bit more than a $25 off voucher (once spending over $50).  The Pulse netball team offered teeshirts, bags etc to their season members.  Not sure what the rugby season packs had but the Phoenix have some work to do.

Im guessing TV advertising must be through the roof, i cant even remember that last time i saw a phoenix ad on tv. come to think of it, i dont think ive ever seen one... i hear the odd ad on the radio for special deals etc... thats it.

Whilst i agree that season pass holders actually end up paying less per game over the season it is slighlty annoying that we only get a crappy letter with a voucher for $25. Sure it discounts the kit that I buy, but it doesn't have anything to say I was a member that year. It would be cool if they had these 2 for 1 promotions - which are designed to get more the ground - but also have and for members you can bring your mate and his wife kinda deals.

I really liked the member night kind of things, you know, where you go along, have a drink and ask the players a question or two. We haven't had one of those for ages.
Simple things like these (and member kits etc) go a long way to making members feel appreciated.
A 5 year member badge (for those who've been member from the start) next year would be pretty cool.

I've seen one of the ads on tv. Infact it was what spurred me to come to my very first match with my brothers.

Since then, apart from Sky advertising it's coverage, haven't seen any more.

Have to say, all it would take for this situation to be corrected would be:

- whenever the Nix are offering cheaper/2for1 tickets, every season pass holder gets the right to participate just by showing his/her pass at Ticketek/Nix store.

This way the crowds would be even bigger, more people would spend money on merchandise and possibly fall in love with the club.

Just got off the phone to ticketek & if you call this afternoon (after 1.00pm) you can get a free ticket emailed to you for each season pass you hold.

At last they seem to be listening, well done NIX.

Would have preferred a commemorative Mariachi mo', but oven gloves are good too.

Only hassle will be that I can't bang the thunder sticks if I have the gloves on.
