Nah, dude that's a mistake on the website.

Don't you think it'd be a bit strange playing a game in Queenstown on Monday arvo?

Hands up who thinks Greenie got himself sent off so he could go?

I tried, but managed only a yellow and so am stuck in Wellington with a fine!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Are they taking down a full squad plus is there a limit on subs like in international friendly's?
Permalink Permalink
almost 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
In friendlies the teams usually arrange the number of subs that can be used for the game between themselves.

They might as well have all  on the field at the same time, might be the only way to keep warmish. It is 5 there today, and might zoom up to 8 later in the week

Not much fun for the bulk of the team coming from Sth African temperatures to the frozen South

Actually, hasn't been that warm in South Africa either. It's winter there too and it can get a bit nippy up in the highveldt...

It'll be b nippy in the low veldt for our players in Queenstown

Would like to see as many players get a run out as possible, Rojas, Greenacre and Putter would be the most important. Don't bohter playing Mulligan at RB.

Full A League rules apply ie: 3 subs only plus GK on bench.

Cheers Tony!
For a second I thought tony had made the change to at ALL. LOL.

Well I'd like to see costa play a full game with putter and greenie having a half each. Would also like to see lia and manny at RB. Was thinking it would be good to compare Paston with Crowther but don't know about that now. So would like to see Rojas at this level and possibly hearfield.

Think we give the boys who have been here the whole time first preference. So something like:

           Crowther
Lia    Dura    Siggy   Lochhead
              McKain
Hearfield          Rojas
              Diego
   Greenacre Costa

With manny, putter and Daniel/bertos to come on at some point

Very experimental side but I think we need to sort out who is going to be up to A league standard this season before week1

Why start siggy, he went off injuried last game and you know him and Durrante are going to be the first choice pairing anyway.
Why start Costa ahead of trialist Putter, surely you'd want to give Putter as much game time as possible to prove his worth.

A dog with a bone :)

So who do we start CB then? McKain and Play someone like Brown/ Ferrante in the Midfield?

And I just think Costa is gonna need a lot of game time against top sides for him to grow, plus I thought both Greenacre and Putter could be quite rusty seeing as they are just arriving. But either way, I'd like to see all three in action

Managed to catch a bit of the morning training session today and Greenacre looked to be in pretty good shape.

Couldn't make out Putter during the pass and move session at the end so not sure if he trained or only trained for the first part of the session.

Anyone have any idea who the coloured africian guy training with them is? sounded like Sekarta or something like that?

i reckon it would be good to play diego and daniel together. 2 tricky midfielders and to see what the phoenix are like with a more attacking midfield ( like we saw in season 1). cant hurt to see what its like in a friendly

Needs to be 3 subs and a goalie, total 15.

So Paston will be on the bench (unless we have another keeper I dont know about), someone to be dropped from this selection. Oska's team needs 2 dropped.

Dont know who is back in town and available,  I think Rojas wont play from that squad

Serveral have listed their teams with Crowther starting. Why? Surely Paston is our number keeper and he didnt play in Africa so why wouldnt he be starting.

no.

Crowther (what i have seen of him) looks much better than Paston.

HE BLOWS PASTON OUT THE WATER !!!!!

I would like to see Crowther up against A-League opposition, we already know Paston can cut it.

+1

Makes more sense to test Crowther now. If Paston goes down mid season then we don't want a completely green keeper to come in.

Yellow Fever is hitting Queenstown, with the arrival of the Wellington Phoenix supporters' club for Saturday's match against Melbourne Victory at the Queenstown Events Centre.

Wellington student and Yellow Fever member Robb Watson said the club would be taking over part of the embankment with a Yellow Fever Zone standing area.

"My primary desire is [to] . . . create an atmosphere that will entertain and engage the casual football fans who attend this event," he said.

He said the 13 Yellow Fever members were expected to be at the game. By setting up a zone, the group would not impede on the enjoyment of others, "which may happen due to us standing up to cheer, and, of course, alcohol consumption, which may cause some families to wish to sit elsewhere," he said.

Having a visible area would allow parents to avoid the group, should they wish.

"I... don't see our behaviour as being a problem, but... some parents may not know what to expect," Mr Watson said.

He encouraged fans to dress in yellow and join the group in the yellow fever zone for singing and chanting.

"Ive just re-visited this and once again realised that C-Diddy is a genius - a drunk, Newcastle bred disgrace - but a genius." - Hard News, 11:39am 4th June 2009

Still curious to know who he is.

Maybe someone Ricki found in South Africa and invited back for a trial?

Anyone know for sure?
