Seamonster on Radio Live sport programme now
That solo goal at the 1:15 mark was pretty good eh.......
But that stomp vs UAE.....it doesn't get better with age
Ricki Herbert certainly deserves a ton of credit when it comes to Ben Sigmund's career.
He could've been lost to us without Ricki's decisions back in 2007 and 2008.
A thank you from Neo Natal for the help Yellow Fever did with letting people know about their collection on behalf of Siggys final game.
A quick note to say thanks again for your interest and support of our activity at the Stadium. Raised $2,169 in donations and also importantly raised plenty of awareness with 2,000+ fliers handed our with details of who we are and what we do.
A big thanks to you and the team.

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
So who is joining me at the book launch event?
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Just got my ticket for the Hotel Bristol event. Looking foward to it! Hopefully a few cracks at Tommy "I'm a part time All White" Smith
I'm in for the Bristol Hotel one!
Must admit am a little disappointed with Sigmund's comments on Herbert. Know he wants to sell his book but I think that he actually owes Herbert more then any other player
Was going to buy his book but may just wait until a tatty copy hits the library now
Auckland will rise once more
The first woman to win a men’s professional league tells us who attracted her to the game, what she does when her players are getting changed, and why the different ways that men and women think mean she can’t always understand them.
Former New Zealand international Ben Sigmund talks about his World Cup depression, decision to briefly quit football for rugby and overcoming adversity.
We’re in Qatar, at the Workers’ Cup.
And Alan Green gives a personal account of the Hillsborough disaster from his perspective as a BBC reporter, at the stadium, on the day of the tragedy.

I am not surprised about Herbert. Every other player in the squad got game time except Siggy. Yet he was the mainstay until Tommy "Only when I am in the mood" Smith was moved in by Herbert.

almost wish it wasn't in there- I don't think it was characteristic of his career and certainly not a highlight. No one is crying over Kruse- I think we all remember the Aussies continued cowardly shots on Bertos which I reckon reduced his career and Kruse's one was fairly bad.

Silly question but where did the "Seamonster" nickname actually come from?
I've called Siggy that here since way back ('07/08) but don't know why!
I'm so-so on Siggy myself, was thrown a huge lifeline by Herbert to go pro when Ricki selected him for the Wales match which really changed both his and Shane's careers but lets be honest, in 2010 there was a massive gap between him and the defenders who played in the WC. I feel for him in that he didn't get on the park at all but he still got to experience an environment that even some of the best players in football never had the chance to experience.
Correct, I don't buy books just because people speak their minds and say dumb things. I could read that stuff here for free.
Name me a player who actually owes Herbert more then Siggy
I must admit I was thinking plodder when I typed it but I am sure Ricki fired him and didn't renew his contract? Christie at least was good enough to be signed young at Barnsley so had a bit of pedigree
He also put a national league banker on the field before him at the world cup

Ricki signed a player who was best available to him at the time and that player is no longer allowed to say anything bad about him, no matter how he gets treated afterward? I don't understand this logic.
I haven't read the book, but I'm pretty sure Siggy's going to say plenty of nice things about Ricki between the years of about 2008 and 2012.

Don't judge a book on the excerpt posted on stuff.co.nz

Neither.
You could argue he could've kept it to himself...but then the book wouldn't be truthful?
Interesting to read that excerpt though. And to think some on here had complete faith in Ricki...the messiah that could do no wrong.

So do you want to know what was going on in Siggy's mind, or do you just want a book with your preferred version of events? Strange stance to take.
I'm now more likely to buy the book as for some reason I didn't imagine it'd be like that.

Another player who owes Ricki: Toto.
Ramming liberal dribble down your throat since 2009
This forum needs less angst and more Kate Bush threads
Ricki was a big of our time in the football sun- Kiwi coach, pro-Kiwi team, pro-Kiwi players and getting to the World Cup.
He's had plenty of critics and doubters, and though there's a part of me that enjoys the biff, it doesn't make me happy to see two of my Kiwi football heroes throwing stones.
We're still waiting for a post-Ricki Kiwi coach to pop his/her head up- they certainly haven't for the AWs or the A-league and Nelsen was a bust at Toronto.
After a series of incidents during and after those two games, Sigmund said he has not spoken to Herbert since.
"He forgot about the 100 games I played for him at the Phoenix and being unbeaten in Wellington for two seasons and how I would have died on the pitch for him. That's all I ever wanted from Ricki. I just wanted him to say, 'Mate, you've got us to the [2010] World Cup and you're still a huge part of this'. That's all I wanted – a pat on the back.
"You can't keep giving. At some point you just have to say, 'I'm done with you. I'm done'."
I personally think this book will be a great read. Pure honesty from Siggy, I would expect nothing less.
I just think that Ricki is a cheap easy mark, being used to promote his book through the stuffs of this world
I wonder if Siggie is saying it as he really sees it if he has a chapter devoted to ripping shark into NZ football at the same time?

Have to agree with AucklandPhoenix about Sigmund promoting his book but boy is he bitter about no getting a run at the world cup, and at the time of the stomp he got off lightly the ban should of been longer. I was never a fan of Herberts but Sigmund should be a little grateful to him for giving him a chance for both the AWs and Phoenix when really all he was was a hard working committed player with limited ability.Does he think he's famous.I suggest one of the reasons he liked Ernie was He Dura Moss and Muscat were calling the shots Can't wait for Herbert's book Ungrateful .
