Im pretty sure that this is not going to be a popular post but here goes anyway.

Just one more point Is it only me that thinks that impending arrival of David Beckham and the LA Galaxy Rangers Rovers United City County FC is turning football into a circus.  I mean 24,000 turning out to see a performing seal.  Not to mention that were putting a double header weekend of football right in the middle of our season, this is all about making a little Greek bloke a little richer.

First point quoted, yes correct.

Second point, I tend to agree also. I am going to the game, to see some brilliant football, likes of which I have not seen in NZ before - but it does start to seem like a circus to see him shipped around the world. Reading today, that Galaxy (according to asst. manager) are considering dropping out of the MLS and becoming a touring team based on the interest this has created. Im not going to complain though, never in my life thought I would see Beckham playing in the ring of fire, in front of my home team. Both are so new it is overwhelming!

Everything else in the message im afraid is rubbish, everyone has said anything I was going to so there we are. Welcome.

The Galaxy a touring team? It's not April 1 is it....

I'm looking forward to another Phoenix game - not too fussed about it being the Galaxy or Beckham, but whatever it takes to build up interest for the Beautiful Game in the last bastion of resistance (i.e. NZ).

that's got to be a pi** take surely, the Galaxy are an average team at best in the MLS. Much like the Phoenix have lost a couple of games they could have won or at least drawn in the last minutes of a game - most recently against Chicago for a spot in the top 8 I think.

The only real draw card they have is Beckham - internationally anyway, when his contract runs out they'd be sunk.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Not wanting to correct a fellow Arsenal man, but that's not quite what he said.

What he said was (paraphrasing): David Beckham is such a drawcard that the Galaxy could  become a professional touring side just based on his popularity.

He then went on to say that of course they weren't going to do that and they were hoping Beckham would help them to the MLS finals series next season.

Haha, thanks D-Square. Just read the email I was sent, got the link off my friend and re-read the article again. Very correct - my previous statement not quite (or even near) true. But is also valid for my call that Beckham is being used as a circus act.   .....although how else are they going to pay back the money put foward for him....?

I like to think of him more as a well-trained show pony.

My view is, that it's a circus. I am more interested in attending the Nix game on the fri night before. Galaxy have Donnovan, Coby Jones,  Xavier as well as Becks. If he gets crocked in the first minute what happens then?

I still believe a better option would have been to get a famous team here, and with our Brazilian stars here, Santos would have been an interesting game or perhaps Argentenan side Boca Juniors? Teams we have not seen here but have a BIG history.

The only reason we, (me and Vickmeist), are going is to support the team. Couldn't care less is it was Beckham, the cast of Coronation Street or even Neighbours kicking a ball around. Its a home game so we will be there end of. Have no idea why people have a problem with this.

Its enterertainament. For people who find football entertaining. If people leave the game, having never been before, thinkng football is entertaining then its all worth while to convert a few more fans.
