Can't tell..Neither team is doing as well as they could....I'm just glad the all blacks won, I couldn't handle a Nix,warriors, all blacks loosing at once...Hoepfully Ricki will make some appropriate changes on preformance from this game for next week.

Ferrente needs to be dropped could possibly do well as a impact player. Brown will replace him next week.wellyphoenixfan2007-09-09 19:29:49

the 1st 3 rounds of the a-league have been weird

Why in gods name is Ricki persisting in starting Ferrante, and then playing him for the entire 90 minutes?? Surely after today he will wake up to the possibility that he has infact signed a dud player and that this will happen during his management career, let him rot in the stands till we can offload him please.

We seemed to do everything right today except for putting the ball in the back of the net. Final ball from the wings was poor most times as was the finishing or lack of or even worse the total lack of any commitment from the players to get into the box and get stuck in and win the ball. Defence held up strongly and Moss did well made a few saves unlucky with the goal a wicked deflection.

Certainly an idea as to what they will be practising at training this week. Crossing and Finishing!!

Three for me, and two for them.

The only reason you guys are saying drop Ferrante is because he is inaccurate in front of goal, you have to remember that he is a midfielder that has been getting himself in some really good positions unlike our other 'star' players. He is not a striker!! Everyone bags Ferrante who to be frank hasn't been a stand out but he has been far more constructive than some of the other so called big name players. To me Aloisi and Coveny have been poor in all three games so far, although I rate both these guys as players they have been really poor compared to their standards. And be realistic...everyone should stop looking at Daniel with rose tinted glasses. Sure we can see their is talent there, but its hardly ever used constructively. His delivery into the box has been no better than Locheads...why is everyone raving about him?? He has to stand up and be counted, show some commitment to the cause like Felipe...he doesn't take a dive every 2 seconds!! On a positive note, the Phoenix didn't deserve to lose, the back four were really good, Christie and Lochead have to stay on the flanks. Johnson and Ferrante did some good things in the middle of the park, Smeltz was a bit starved of service but tried like normal. Guys that I think will be worried about their performances so far are Aloisi, Coveny, Brownlie (although he was a little better today) and Daniel. Not only are these guys not performing but Aloisi, Coveny and Daniel are supposed to be 3 of our key players...hopefully the old saying form is temporary class is permanent kicks in soon.

Supporting a team isn't about results, it's about the team. I support the Northland rugby team we went through 3 seasons winless but it doesn't stop you supporting them if you are a true fan of theirs. The Nix have shown enough to say they are going to be competitive, a deflected free kick is a pretty harsh way to lose after having probably the better of the game.

We're playing awesome. Very entertaining. Came close a few times. We've dominated the game, need to put 1 or 2 away though.

They came close once but Moss made a fantastic save. O'Dor and Dodd looking comfortable, Lochhead not bad. Christie very solid so far. Ferrante is doing very well actually, lively and giving plenty of options. The destroyer duo of Aloisi and Johnson are solid. FELIPE is awesome, running their defence all over the place.

Daniel has been rubbish so far. Losing the ball, not coming to the ball, slack free-kicks, going down easily (suprise suprise) and not getting stuck in!

Smeltz holding the ball up very well.

C'mon the Nix!

P.S: Crowd looks about the same, 15k, but then again I was at the last game so cant really tell

What do you mean "Lochhead not bad"?  He was a legend!!  Best player on the field - he didn't miss a trick and was as solid as.  Definitely man of the match in my view.

Isn't the point of sport like this to support them through thick and thin and become really attached to the team? Isn't the whole point of sport to root for your team and want them to pull out and win??

I don't really see how you can do that when you say they're crap because they lost a couple of games. I mean, how do you think you sound, especially in the long run? Imagine a couple years from now or so, telling your mate 'oh yeah, I supported Phoenix for a bit but they lost a couple of games so I decided not to like them any more'. Pathetic.

OK I have just read through theese 5 pages and I am ready to [R18 LANGUAGE]. You have got me so mad because the phoenix are not just the same old Knights we are so much more. I apologise to Moderators for personal attacks but it has to be done. You are a stupid pesemist, Yellow Fever is a 'Supporters Club' of the Phoenix not a 'lets all poke holes club' if you are not here to offer constructive criticism or to compliment/support the Phoenix log off click the 'x' in the corner and never come to this website again.

In my opinion:
We played quite well today we had to many shots at goal and not enough goals. Most of our shots were going over the top because we were trying to punish the ball even when we could of just tapped it in. We were still doing ok but then Daniel and Felipe got taken off and so did our attack. Ultamatly we were extremely unlucky.

I think Felipe is not ready to start yet, he played extremely well but his fitness is sitll not up to scratch I think he should come on just before or after half time.

Your thoughts?

Although we lost (damn, bum, bugger) I saw enough tonight not to be that worried.

They were playing the ball around well, getting down the flanks and the defence looked reasonably tight, there was a little to much faffing around outside the oppositions box but the fact they are getting into those positions is great .
It looks to me as if they are getting used to playing together and communicating with each other, I think a good win is on the cards in the next few games.

For heavens sake! The performance today was good with just one weak spot - called accurate shooting!!

I thought overall we were the better side and indeed dominated at times. How on earth can anyone compare that with the rubbish served up in the first half of last season. I liked the defence today, I thought it was a good balance. Dodd was commanding in the air. Christie and Lockhead looked assured. The Jets goal was a lucky deflection, not a defence error. Midfield was creative, and I enjoy the short pass style of Aloisi - he always seems to know how to make an interception and an immediate accurate layoff.

Smeltz worked hard and was a good target.

This is a tough league in 2007/8 better than last year. All the sides are very strong. We are doing well to match (and better ) them. Give everyone a break.Orpewise2007-09-09 20:33:42

Yeah I echo your thoughts the goal was unlucky and our accuracy wasn't healthy.

Did anyone see I think it was Dodd pull another Phoenix player off the ground by the collar after they almost scored and have a good yell at him? I thought it wasn't very good, sure he stuffed up but you support him not destroy him?

I think the thing that really got the team was nerves.  We certainly had the best of the play and looked most like scoring the whole game.  One unlucky deflection caused us to lose but other than that the defense looked solid and we were getting forward nicely - especially on the wings.  Few of the crosses met nix attackers so that's something to work on.

The nix playing in front of an 11000 strong and vocal crowd - it must have been a bit of pressure for them to put something away and secure their first home win in the ring of fire.  That's what I saw anyway... the boys are eager to please us and get ahead but their nerves got the better of them.

I believe they need to take responsibility and have a shot on goal. How many times today were they in front of the goal and just stopped like a possum looking into the headlights.
Have a shot, we wont bag you for trying.
We are pressuring teams and just need that lift from having the confidence in taking a shot.

Also it would help having a left foot ;)

Rikki Herbert what are you doing. Michael Ferrante has been rubbish the last two weeks and couldnt score in a brothel. Why is this donkey playing? Felipe is a matchwinner, whereas Brownlie is not so keep the lad on the field. Dodd was outstanding. Next week please rikki this is your squad : Moss, Christie, Cleberson/O'Dor, Dodd, Lochhead, Aloisi, Brown, Felipe, Daniel, Smeltz, Coveny. Subs: Paston, Johnsen, Old, George.
A positive was Christie at right back, he was outstanding, as was lochhead and johnsen had a great performance. No wonder ferrante couldnt make the bench at melbourne. That boy must have a talented mouth.

ferrante was fyn mate sum gud balls and holds the position well for the formation riki wants dont think u understand that... coveny didnt look up to it and i think in general 2nd half nix looked behind big blow having daniel off and felipe was running out of steam but he is the 1 hu is gonna win games was class 2dae and was happy with defense

Question is - Felipe's making a lot of the play, do we keep starting him and try to get ahead early before subbing him off when he tires, or do we do the old style and bring him on late to dance around tired defense?

Personally I liked him starting, if we can settle our shots down and stop fizzing them over the top he's going to be great for getting us in front early in matches.

Agreed. We just seem to be a bit miffed when we get close to the goal.

You can tell he only has about 50 mins in him. Not fit enough to go the whole 80 yet. He was very impressive though - perfect control/touch.

And for what its worth I truly thought Ferrante did not play as bad as some are saying. Sure, he can't shoot for sh*t (we are just unlucky the 2 best chances fell to him) but he did everything else quite well.

ferrante is the weak link. johnsen and brown are similiar style to him and both are better. Vince lia would carve him up 2.

That was at half time, when he had Daniel with him (So practically nobody), second half he was a lot better

I don't think Daniel played that well, especially compared with performances such as v Melbourne in pre season etc. In saying that, he linked up with Felipe very well and that was the catalyst to most of our attacks.

Please, no text language.

His passes and crosses were all off today, as were his set pieces. Wasn't great last week. Didnt have a bad game vs. Melbourne but was by no means outstanding
