From aisle 31 (at the corner where it happened) it looked like it went through the wall, took a bad deflection and went it.
That said, I still don't know what the foul was for. I was watching the play when all of a sudden there is a free kick outside our box and some guy was on the ground having a cry.
It also appeared that the ref gave a yellow for something he saw on the screen. He was facing that way, and the foul occurred behind him. That was class..

Lochead 4 Man of the match.
He had a great game, ran tirelessly, and the team seemed to feed of that, that why the ball alsways seemed to end up out there.

If we complained to the FFA for that do you think they'd give us the points, because that's against FIFA regulations.

Its a shame the best crosses come from our left back. great to see him getting forward but has opposition counter attack written all over it

Too hard to prove. It may have just been my POV...

Make him left half. And put someone else in left back...

Or play 3-5-2, with wing backs...

What's wrong with 3-5-2 (with the right players)?

FFS.  We just made a huge step up in defence from the previous week, the only goal was an ugly fluke.  Why on earth would we change it when it's showing positive signs ?

The issues are at the other end of the pitch (and, no, George probably isn't the messiah)

I agree, I don't particularly rate Ferrante either, I think he looked rather erratic at points and sometimes his first touch let him down.

I really think that everyone needs to stop giving Aloisi hospital balls, he recieved alot of poor passes and I think he tried his best, but not as convincing as he usually is. Smeltz also tried to get stuck in, but once again didn't recieve great ball. I actually thought Coveny came on helped, because he managed to put a bit of muscle in and pushed their defence around a little bit. Felipe looked tired moving into the second half, but my goodness what an amazing touch that little man has. Herbert made the right substitution with Brownlie, but left it to late, Brownlie was particularly dangerous when he came on and made some good play.

Dodd was very solid at the back and I couldn't fault him, O'Dor not quite as but performed sufficiently. Christie and Lochhead I feel cemented their places as wingbacks, their pace definitely adds a bit more option coming forward from the back, just need to work on their final ball into the box.

Good game overall, but I still feel we lack a quality finisher of the ball up front!

yeah fair call i think the phoenix in general play a lot of hospital balls... schoolboy stuff really. I dont rate lochead but he was quality on the weekend, others need to follow his example

Lochead was good, gave his all and never gave up. Best game from Christie for a while. Defence was alot tighter and chances were created, the goals will come (sooner rather than later). Midfield needs to spread out abit, seems they kept running into each other but hopefully once they get to grips with the formation they will settle down.

Possibly the best game of the weekend( imo). At least the nix can string some passes together unlike perth/sydney

I came onto the site keen to put yesterday behind me - but

I am still too sad and not in an emotional state fit to provide constructive comment on the game.

lochead has been one of our better players in all three games, and is consistently making overlapping runs and giving us an extra attacking option in the opposition half.

you dont rate him because....?????

I thought Ferrante and Daniel were our best players. Everyone else was sh*t. I think we should play a 1-2-1-2-2-1-1, to give us some width. We should start George as he's awesome, along with Costa. Play Spoonley in goal, and also start Draper. Lia also must start. Lets have more drums at the game, less chanting and more music at intervals. No umbrellas, and people need to sit down. Im fed up with Aloisi, why doesnt he dive?! We were outplayed so clearly our tactics do not work.

Lochhead is our worse player, why does he even get in the squad?!

I love the Phoenix, always will - but did anyone get the impression that the Jets were simply a better team?

Just little things, like I dunno, passing to another player - who was actually there... It's like our boys don't even know each other yet.

EH????  NO!!!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

No I don't mean they're worse (although they did lose...) they just didn't seem sort of 'cohesive' - I don't know how to describe it. Like they'd pass, but too fast for the person they were passing too, or too slow - like the didn't know his speed, or the open player wasn't ready/aware...

I'm just saying. Plus I doubt any of them are used to playing in the wet.

I think they need a team building exercise :) Whaddya think we could come up with eh?

lol dude, surely thats to be expected, every other teams been together for 2 years.. this ones been for all of 6 or 7 competitive games?

give it another few weeks, the cohesion will come, especially once all the brazilians get there heads around the communication factor and settle in

Lochead looked quality...ever since the game at QE2 (where he looked average IMO) he seems to be getting better and better every week

Lochead is quality. Just wish he would go past the right back sometimes and cross from the byline rather than crossing early. Good delivery nonetheless

I was in aisle 30 and saw the lead up to the Newcastle goal - Griffiths dived to win the free kick - there was daylight between Dodd and Joel Griffiths - Dodd never touched him!
Which is probably why Dodd got booked for mouthing at the ref - it was an awful decision and one that resulted in the only goal

Griffiths ?  Dive ?  Never...

Did I mention I hate him more than Muscat, Tiatto and McKay combined ?

A blight on the game.

Aisle 32 for me and thats how I saw it too, Bluboynz
I've seen Griffiths  in recent games in action like this ...perhaps the Aussie/Jets diving style is more acceptable to the referees than our Brazilian-flavoured Phoenix styles??!!

I have to be honest and say I didn't see the foul that lead to the goal nor the replay, but the one thing I haven't seen in the papers is that the foul was dubious. We all have different angles on the foul and it may well have been a crap call, its just I don't see the media beating up the ref over it so that leads me to think that maybe he was right?

I appreciate you didn't see the foul - there wasn't one! Dodd closed Griffiths down, but didn't make contact - perhaps the press weren't watching either!
