I believe they need to take responsibility and have a shot on goal. How many times today were they in front of the goal and just stopped like a possum looking into the headlights.
Have a shot, we wont bag you for trying.
We are pressuring teams and just need that lift from having the confidence in taking a shot.

Also it would help having a left foot ;)

unless you're Ferrante, in that case we'll bag the sh*t out of you

The first half was a great watch and I was surprised that we didn't go in ahead. 2nd we were poorer but still seemed to be good enough for the win. Finishing seems to be the problem at the moment and players not willing to take shots when the opportunity arises. Dodd had a couple of good chances from corners in the 2nd half but unfortunately couldn't get them on target. Still can't wait for the next game and the first Phoenix win in the A-League.

Yep his 1-free kick was a dissapointment. He didn't play well today. Can people stop rating him on his reputation.

Everyone else bar maybe Ferrante was better than Daniel today. Oh and maybe Covs

A: He Dives

C: Big reputation, no delivery.

I want him to be the star he could be, but at the moment I just dont see it.

Oh please. Why is diving bad?

Because referees arent gonna give them over here. Footy's a physical game.

Folks, a sense of reality here please. The Nix dominated the first half should have scored - didn't - and were made to pay, end of story.

Defence solid.

Midfield - dominant

Frontmen  - a little stagnant when we had the chance to  swing the ball in.

At the end of the day it was a classic smash and  grab by Newscastle - soak up the pressure and score a jammy, bloody jammy, goal.

Bugger.

But it has happened to better teams than the Nix and it will happen again.

i listened to the game on Radio sport. Loved it, sure we lost, but as others have said, sounds like we played well and just missed the final shot to score.
gonna keep my eye no that grabaseat site and see if a flight from hammiehole to wellywood pops up around a home game for the 'nix.
I would love to go and see them.. scream one of my lungs out and support our team in the A league.
This team shows some real promise and dont seem to be out classed.

Yep - good to see some sense coming in to the thread. Was it not a good game of footie? and are we only here for the good times?
Bloody unlucky not to win, and at least it means I'll be there to watch there first home win when we fly up for the game on the 22nd.
Go the 'Nix.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

LOL yea it seems like it.
Good on him for having a go but it doesnt seem like his form is on at present and maybe he needs a stint on bench. 3 Games and not a lot.
I agree he isnt playing well.
There were plenty of chances and they keep coming.
Its a long road til the end of the season.

Just playing confidently defensively will help the team find there feet.
They must be chuffed with the defensive play this week far superior to last week.

Phoenix played well and it's early days yet so I don't think we are going to go down like the Knights, although some (not all, SOME) of the play was Knights-ish and didn't impress me one bit. I'm confident we'll bounce back against Sydney.

People who blame the ref of Ferrante are blind, mad, or bad losers (or a combination of them). The ref did well, and Ferrante may have missed a few chances, but he didn't have a bad game at all. I know it's good to have someone to blame as it makes it feel that if it wasn't for that person then things wouldn't have gone bad, but nobody played bad. We can't blame anyone, we just have to get in behind the team and support them whatever happens.

If anyone cant see this as a better performance than last week, they are blind. Defence was so much better, well done Christie. Our left side defence to mid to attack was very classy, I'm confident about the next few games.

Yes I must say, when I saw OLeary in the middle I thought "we're history". The number of times he cost the Knights! But he did well today. Good one Peter!

Agree whole-heartedly LoyalGunner.

Ferrante's shooting has been mud, but it won't get better if you bench him. The rest of his game has been solid.

Things will come good - patience is a virtue after all.

Ditto on that Wolfben, was a good summary HeySeus.Early days for our Phoenix..entertaining game but our boys couldn't finish, though they played the better game.
I'm pissed off they lost but ...NEXT!! roll on Sydney and we'll be back for adelaide on the 22nd.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Defence much improved - never really looked like conceding - goal was lucky deflection - sh*t happens.

Best chances fell to Ferrante, who couldn't hit a barn door from 3 paces (though did OK otherwise)  - sh*t happens.

Daniel got injured and  Felipe got tired, leaving us with no cutting edge unfortunately before we had managed to score - sh*t happens.

Let's hope that's used up all of the sh*t that's going to happen to us for a while - time for it to happen to our opponents instead, starting next week!

Go Go the Nix!

That 1st 45 IMHO was the best I've seen from the team. They created so many chances and the defence looked well in control. We lost it in midfield around the 65th minutes, they scored that deflection - which Moss was unlucky not to get a hand too. awesome attempt by him, and then in about the 83rd minute we came back storming.

We lost, but I am coming back. I was entertained and this side showed some imagination, passion, effort and didn't drop their heads - That deserves all the support we can give them. I thought I had my value for $23.00 despite not winning a trip to Melbourne.

Fair due too, to the 6 or so Jets fans that came over! Good on them.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I think overall, when we played football we looked like contenders for the title.

Defence stepped up and Christie at RB made the defence look comfortable.

Midfield was average. Johnson and Aloisi clashed quite a bit and the subbing off of daniel and felipe did us no good.

Finishing was lacking and disapointing, this let us down...BIG TIME.

Ferrante has been given chance after chance and not impressed, his first half was good but as always mucks good chances and gives away the ball .

The team:
Overall a good performance, to much arsing about outside the box in the first half instead of having a shot, passes going in to guys with their backs to goal all the time. We should have won. Felipe was good some nice showboating. We showed some good width and our midfield looked fairly comfortable.

The Crowd:

We need a Barry Manilow-type figure to freshen up the chants/come up with some new ones. Why are we not serenading 001(04) as much? Also to the idiot that would'nt move out of our seats, it is not "general seating" you Knob Goblin, not when I have to work long hours in a crappy job to pay for them. Still you did move when we asked and only winged a little.

On the topic of seating, one steward was a little gungho with the young uns who were standing all together in front of us. but the situation was not helped by the young un getting lippy. You were asked to move as the bloke who's seat you had had obviously complained to the steward. Blond Lad I reckon accept it in good grace and move, you guys are a good bunch and add to the singing no end, and if you were not asked to move you would have not ended up singing your solo for the telly after all, so it was a good result for you no?

Leaving:

Yes we lost but as the Fever can we all at least stay and clap our players when they leave the field? It only takes a few extra mins and I think it gives the players something to think about when they go off. Shows them what the club means us.

Supporting Wellington Phoenix:

Ok I support another football team, 2 in fact. BUT I live HERE IN THE WELLINGTON REGION NOW, so I am going to support THIS CLUB, I am not just going to get bored, sl*g of the players, sl*g off the club, because we lost 2 matches FFS.

Best T-shirt:

That guy who had the "who are ya?" T-shirt Pwned all other t-shirts!

um, good game should have scored earlier but that's football. you just got that niggling feeling as the game wore on that something like that was going to happen, and it did.

just at this moment, aloisi hasn't brought the bite to the midfield that I had been expeccting. we lost a lot of 50-50 balls in that game from being soft in the middle, and it wasn't just ross but a lot of the others appeared as though they had lost their intesity as the game wore on.

does anyone else think that cleberson might be a decent destroyer for us in the middle of the park? he could just do what sissoko does for the pool and roam around breaking up attacks before they get near us. might be an idea, but just think our midfield screen at times is a little soft.

we were much better down the flanks today so that was good to see. heaps of positives out there, and maybe if their keeper had a slightly smaller butt, then daniels shot would have snuck through! but lie I said earlier, that's football!

Ok some of the NZ media are begining to annoy me... On the front sports page of stuff.

"The Jets took Phoenix down, 3-nil."

"THAT SINKING FEELING: The Wellington Phoenix's Felipe de Souza Campos goes head-to-head with the Newcastle Jets' Troy Hearfield at Westpac Stadium. The Jets took Phoenix down, 3-nil."

Plus on Breakfast this morning Paul 'I got picked last in PE' Henry had another uneducated swipe at the Phoenix.

I thought we played better than against Melbourne for the most part, but just not in fron of the box. If one of those shots had gone in we'd be away laughing

Perspective please, we are one win away from the top half of the table. Only two teams have more than three competition points at this stage.  Yesterday was a solid competitive performance.

Exactly!  If you don't shoot you don't score.  But a very enjoyable game and plenty of that down to the YF fans

I went to see entertaining football and that's what I got.

The problem in the previous game was poor defence, so I assume time was taken the fix the problem during the week - and the problem is now fixed.

This week's problem was shooting on target - hopefully that will be fixed for the next game.

GO the Nix !!!

btw - from aisle 21 it looked like the successful free kick by the Jets was a set piece - the ball hit hard round the wall straight at a Jets player who deflected it into the net.
