Coveny doesn't exactly provide impact from the bench. George should have had a go.

Is he a striker, If so definatly get him on.

We lack a class finisher. There were so many chances today that we spurned. Wheres Marcina, would love to have him playing up top with Smeltz atm.

Why doesn't he look good? Is he a dud or unfit?

Someone who is working with the team said that George isn't all he is cracked up to be in both his attitude and his ability.

I hope I'm wrong

Was he on the bench?

Pretty much everyone who's seen him training (apart from one on here) says he can't even trap a ball.  To claim he is the saviour is delusional.

Saviour? No.

Keep a ball on the ground when taking a shot and not sending it back over the tasman? (Ferrante) Signs point to yes.

There's a good idea.  Replace a midfielder who can't shoot but can at least control and pass a ball with a striker who can't.

So you end up with someone who doesn't play as a midfielder playing as a midfielder and unable to do the basics ?

Sounds like the solution to me.

I would rather put on a Inanimate Piece of Rock on, than Ferrante.

Really ?

You've posted a number of times here that Ferrante's distribution in the first 45 was excellent, yet by all accounts George is pretty much the Inanimate Piece of Rock you are looking for.

havent we already got a thread like this?

anyways, come AWs games we're gunna end up needing to use him (on the bench atleast)

Other than the First 45minutes of this game i see no reason for ferrante to hold a spot.

His shots were bismal and in the second half he was not worthy to be called a footballer.

As I've said before, give him a run for the last 20 to prove himself, if he is crap like we all think he is, he will show it and it will be game over for him!

I disagree. Many people have just heard stuff and are reiterating it. I know some people who have trained with him and say that he is good. But apparently his attitude does need a little work as i think he assumed he would be in the squad already. He is a pacey, high intensity striker who could add something different to the side. (instead of brownlie, Smeltz and Coveny, who are all good players but are very similiar in style). The one person on this forum who has seen George play on numerous occaisions says he is a good player. He player in the best and Second best league in portugal and scored goals (for Santa Clara). And why are people panicking, we are 2 points off third place! Give George a go! High intensity players talents are often shown in games. And there have been many average trainers  who are good players!

I think Ricki should listen to this.  I can see it now - we are 1-0 down to Sydney with 20 minutes to go, and battering them trying to get an equaliser.  Ricki thinks to himself "I'll put on Brownlie......no wait, I'll put on a player who is worse to try and prove himself.  That what some of the lads on the YF forum want me to do".

Yeah. If Ricki thinks he is sh*t - don't bother. I think we just want him to be the miracle cure to our goal drought.

But Brownlie is the same style to our other strikers. They got George to complement our taller strikers, his pedigree and goalscoring record is better than Royce Brownlies in the last 5 years he has played for Paramatta, Brisbane, Queensland, Swindon, Chester and us. Played 68 Scored 8.
George was at Santa Clara for 5 years, played around 110 games, 20 goals, in a far more challenging league, and many of his apperances were on the wing. The idea of giving him a go is more common sense than anything.

but having a good goal scoring pedigree doesn't mean anything! For example Sean Devine had the goal scoring record at Wycombe (sure it's not that greater team) and when he came to the knights he struggled to hit the back of the net. Also, being a top goal scorer doesn't mean that much either, due to a number of factors ie hitting a bit of temporary form, the team providing with enough chances a blind man could score and tapping into empty goals.

Ricki is seeing George train everyday - if he doesn't think he is good enough to be playing at this level, I will trust his judgement more thana few kids with computers who have read his wikipedia page.

One- hes not on wikipedia.
Two- there is a massive difference between training and a match (many south americans are lazy trainers, according to their coaches Leonardo and Ronaldiniho are, not that i am comparing them to our Brazilians)
Three - Sean Devine was 32 when he came to the club and Wycombe etc are oodles below the top league in portugal

When he did play in pre season his shooting was worse than Ferrantes. I dont think he'll be any better than what we've got but i think everyone deserves their chance so he should get 15 mins at the end of the next game.

I suspect that Ricki doesn't like George, rather than not rating him.  As I've said previously, George is the kind of player who needs to play rather than train, and won't show you flashy skills and dazzling footwork - but he will sprint into spaces and bang in shots.  He's the kind of player who's not going to risk getting injured (or injuring team-mates) in training, but will risk his teeth, knees and knackers in a match situation if he thinks he'll get a goal as a result.

Having seen the Nix a couple of times this season, and noted the number of chances they are making but not taking, I find it hard to believe that George hasn't been given his head.  Never mind putting him on the bench - stick him in from the start, drop Felipe back into Ferrante's position.  Can't see the logic in not using him to be honest.

As for Ricki's judgement - yes, it would be nice to say "he's seen the lad and doesn't fancy him, so I'll trust his opinion", but he's also selected Ferrante 3 times from 3 so far.

I can just see it now.  George comes on with 15 to go in our next match, doesn't shine and everyone will then say "he only got 15 minutes, let's start him and see what he's got".

I think he played a bit against Sydney or newcastle.

As far as i know one of the things holding back George is his complete lack of understanding of English, let alone being able to speak it. At the YFSLP i tried to talk to George and he looked completely blankly at me till Cleberson came up and saved him from me .

Have you ever seen George play?

I have seen him at training and the issue is not his attitude, it is the fact that he cannot control a ball.  That is not because he is not risking getting injured - it is a fundemental lack of skill.

I want to be given my chance to shine, so I am expecting at least half a game against Sydney and a start against Perth.

If he deserves a chance then so does Costa...but this is big boys stuff, so no-one gets a start because they deserve a chance just by turning up to training.  You do what everyone else does, train hard, impress the manager and earn a shot.

George juggling at training was funny...and not in a good way

i'll sprint into spaces and shoot all day if given the chance. plus, I base my whole season around playing as opposed to training.

maybe I should be rolled on for the last 20

I suspect Ferrante's inclusion this week had more to do with Brown coming down crook than anything else.  He named two forwards and a defender on the bench due to midfielder unavailability.
