Getting Bigger Crowds

At the Melbourne game there were some really good baked potatoes with different toppings. They weren't there for Adelaide though.
Yup, eat before you get there!

About the weather: someone says we'll get less if it's sunny, and someone else says we'll get more. Huh?

A home win or two and the crowd will inevitably grow, success should get a few more of those who are sitting on the fence along for the games.  as for the food, what would the stadium be without a soggy burger that tastes like cardboard?

Thanks for the headsup on the BBQ, will check that out on Sunday thanks!!

Fan attendances? Well, Wellington usually is pretty supportive of any sporting endeavour and with what the phoenix have shown the public, it's all be good and positive. I honestly believe it will get much better. You watch the Rugby fans come back now that the lions are in the 1/4 finals and if the basketball team show some form, fans will go to see them too.

I should have gotten a season ticket but I wasn't sure if I could get to the games but stuff it. I'm definatelty getting one next season. I wonder if they are discounting them as each home game gets played, anyone know??
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Would be worth enquiring at the Ticketek office at the Michael fowler Centre, that's where I got mine (discounted) after the season started, they sent me a single ticket for the Adelaide game, and today I got my plastic season ticket for the rest of the season. I also got a discount (about 50% off) as I'm retired, but you don't look old enough to qualify for that one. Even so I was prepared to pay the full price if I had to. Good luck and I hope you get sorted.

Thanks mate. Yes I am a young 46. I shall make some enquiries tomorrow me thinks! I've loved the atmosphere at the games. last Saturday was especially nosiey. Some of the Chants may have been a bit off but hey, the Ref deserved some of them. The encouraging ones were awesome!

If you look at crowd numbers based on population size we're posting the equal biggest crowds per capita in the league. I got curious about this and did a wee bit of working out - I can post some numbers here tomorrow if anyone is interested. Based on population size proportions we're around equal with Newcastle in getting people to the stadium.

Someone noted Sydney and Melbourne populations are around 10 times bigger - but their football crowds sure aren't.

Its a bloody top effort, and especially for the early season of a new club. Big ups to everyone involved - we know its working and to back that up the stats say so as well!

Saturday night games are epic fail if you are young and hip and have prior plans. Sunday arvo means I can wake up, get back on the piss and watch some footy.

As for attendance numbers, it will be a huge success if we keep the 4th highest average over the course of the season. When we start winning hopefully we'll get some glory hunters too and we can push Queensland for third in the standings game. In a dream world we'd push Sydney and Melbourne but I can't see that happening since they are so much bigger cities.

Its great that we're running 4th overall in total crowd sizes, but it gets really interesting when we look at relative crowd sizes.

I was just noting that by population size - we're running around equal TOP in relative crowd sizes. That says something about the commitment of the Wellington community to supporting the Phoenix. If Sydney and Melbourne were matching the population proportion we're getting they'd have to have crowds of over 120,000!

I think that will depend to a significant extent on the results until then, and probably the weather, which usually affects the walk up crowd.

If you do get a season ticket let me know the seat number and I'll say hi at the next game. I took my son and daughter in law to the game, she commented at the end of the FIRST half that she had enjoyed the game more than all the rugby games she'd ever been too, and by the end of the match she was hooked.  So it looks like next game my grandson will be going with me, like you I prefer the encouraging chants, especiallly as we have some Australians playing for the Nix.
we were in aisle 24 on Saturday, my season ticket is for aisle 28 which is the gold section, but I think I prefer 24 as we had a great view of the disallowed (ignored) goal. Plus we were near enough to the Fever zone to soak up the free alcohol fumes.

The big thing holding back the public interest in the Phoenix at the moment is the Rugby World Cup. The media are full of it and thats what most people are following. Once the All Blacks get eliminated by France in the quater final and the NPC finishes then the sports scribes will have nothing to write about except the Phoenix.

I'm predicting a big increase in crowd numbers through November. The weathers better and it's traditionaly a quite time in NZ sport, the rugby has finished and cricket has'nt started. Plus everyone will be gearing up to the Beckham weekend. That will easily be the biggest weekend ever for NZ domestic football.

All you football purists who have doubts, buy a ticket! its going to be HUGE!!!!

I remember going to the first Rugby 7's in Wellington in ?2001 - me and about 2,000 others.

Now look at the event ...

..so, give it time; so long as we keep plugging the game it's bound to take off in Wellington like the rugby 7's.

Yep I was there too Phoenix Rising I agree too  it does take time.  Now that event has grown to be one of the  best 7's tournaments in the world
If you look at all the Phoenix matches at the Ring of Fire this season and pre-season each one has grown in terms of audience involvement and atmosphere. Saturday night was going off!!...the crowd was amped, there was a real buzz in the air. A big part of this has to be the Yellow Fever Zone and the chants and, as other people have noted in the threads, the Yellow  Fever Zone is growing and more people are getting involved and not just warming the seats.
Some quick questions for all of us in YF...
What about the positive effect that great atmosphere must have on the Phoenix players??
Do you think each of them'll play hard out with this sort of support?
What if we all just invite ONE more guest to come with us for Sunday?
What if the Phoenix win this week.. wouldn't you want to have bragging rights forever to say "I was there for the Phoenix's first ever home win!!" ??

My company has a box and I've been involved in the guest list this week.  We've got about 15 people coming who have not been to a game yet, and my son is taking one of his mates on my season pass.  So all in all about 16 newbies.  Can anyone beat that?
