Agreed.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yeah but this year is about improving not necessarily results. Don't get me wrong, i'm damn happy - but i'm just looking towards next year now really.

Just some of the stuff that happened during the game worries me. Still have the same problems as we did in round 1.

Great result, Lochead had a great first half, not so sure about the second half, missed an excellent chance to score, should've taken a touch as had a bit of time ... Lia had another solid performance ... am not rating Dodd at the moment, is good with headers in defence but gets beaten too often on the ground and that is not good, especially with Queensland coming up ...

Well done the Nix, great win !!   great to hear the Fever in full voice, sounded great on TV!!

I know this is our first season, But I am disappointed. There were games where we should ave won or got a point from and that would be around 10 points..We would be challenging top two finish if we had been able to finish off the teams.

Every team can say that though Nestling! (especially us and Perth however)

yea I agree, the games against Sydney and Adelaide were ones we definately should have won and they were against good teams and if we had held on to win, we would be six points above Melbourne , and we quite possibly would be in around 3rd / 4th place ... Phoenix will learn though as its their first season, and I see bigger things for us next year

Don't forget the Christie back pass to Petrovski v CCM - would've and should've been a draw. Though then you can look to the 2-2 Adelaide game that we were lucky not to lose etc

And once we steal Karpeh from Glory, we will ave the best attack in the A-league!

Karpeh couldn't finish off a hot dinner.

Three for me, and two for them.

Karpeh looked awesome..Held the ball well, most times a high ball came to him he was able to hold back Dodd, great passing...Only bad thing I saw he did in the game was the to heavy touch past Moss. Nestling2007-12-07 22:27:40

3-0 will do for me!!!!

i haven't read the first 6 pages but it sounds like some folks might be 'unhappy'

hell I'd much rather win 3-0 (and miss some chances and not look fluent sometimes in the second half)

than 'play the best football in the league' and lose 2-1

we can play sublime football, but today was about winning and we did that emphatically!!!

Good game= great result
but (don't shoot me) shouldn't a team playing against 9 men for 15 minutes score at least one goal?
Lochy and Daniel both had good chances, Smeltz coulda had his hatty, but shot shyness set in....

still, 3 points

I think ricki might have said at half time - "just don't let these points slip"

and if so they did as instructed and that instruction was the right one!!

Can't complain really, got the result. We came out all guns blazing at the start of the match and won it with that second goal. Header from Smeltz was absolutely world class, huge leap and fantastic power and direction, can't wait to see the replay.

I thought the midfield axis of Lia and Ferrante was quality though, both had storming games with Lia acting as the enforcer and Ferrante playing some fantastic passes, he really looks good when he plays in the middle. Lochy had a great first half as well, underlining why he MUST play out on the flank. Perhaps we need to go back to the 442 so we can accommodate Daniel as well?

Felipe had a quiet game, so perhaps use him as an impact player, Covs deserves to continue up front from the start, he has been excellent for the last couple weeks.

How does this look:

-----------------------Moss-----------------------

Christie---------Dodd------Rees---------Lochy

-----------Lia----------------Ferrante------------

Elrich-----------------------------------Daniel----

----------Coveny-----------Smeltz---------------

Bench: Paston, Old, Johnson,  Felipe

Love the win but jeez we were ugly. After the second goal we stopped playing and a lot of our passing was shoddy to say the least. Such a contrast to last week when we lost!

Thank goodness for a couple of sublime moments from Smeltz (I'm going to enjoy watching that header again and again) and Moss. However as has been said, better to win ugly than lose with style. And if Melbourne suffer any kind of loss we're 6th.

Be happy lads, what a win.

Had a fun time at the BB before and after the game. I was the kid with the flag.

I'm stoked with the result.  Happened to be on a boat heading into Perth when the news came through on the TV.  Forgetting that there was other people around, i did a mini jump up and punched the air in celebration.  Receive a few funny looks from others around me

I think Ferrante should replace Elrich and have either Brown or Aloisi take the central midfield role.

I wish we'd win 3-0 every week even if at times it wasn't pretty - especially defensive clearances.

I'm rapt, 3 points. To be honest, I've watched the Glory on telly and they & US should not be the bottom two teams!

I've always been a rugby guy before the Phoenix so excuse my dumbness.

What was that penalty all about? The one where we are allowed to instand infront of the goal? What is the rule for that, and why did it happen?

i think he and to be honest i would quite like someone to explain why what dodd did was an offence and why it was an indriect instead of a stock standard penalty?

It was a backpass to the keeper which Moss then picked up. The only way you can play it back to your keeper is if you use your head or chest, any backpass made with the feet is illegal, but rather than be punished with a penalty an indirect freekick is awarded at the point where the offence was made.

Note that a keeper can pick up the ball if it deflects off another player but Dodd clearly did flick the ball backwards and Moss then picked it up which was a major mistake on his part (although Dodd should have just hoofed it clear). The Ref's decision to award and indirect FK was therefore the correct one.

fantastic result, we out played them right from the start and had easily should have been 3 up after ten minutes.

can someone tell me why they disallowed what would have been the 3rd goal my attention was drawn to some fracas and missed the whole thing

Old impeded the goalkeeper which was a bit stupid because it was a great header and would have gone in anyway.  He was also probably offside so if he hadn't run across him he would have been all right.

Fantastic match! Shame about the turnout (is 8k going to be the norm now?!). Great fun in the YFZ as always.

I think we've found 8k is the level we can rely on, hopefully the win this week will drag a thousand or two more along after the Big weekend hangover...

...I mean, Sydney only had 2000 more from a city ten times the size and they aren't exactly last.

Oh that wasn't a penalty, that was an indirect free kick.

Front row of Aisle 20 about 4 or 5  young fellas about 6-8 years old took off their shirts and were waving them above their heads. The idea is really taking off!
