The all whites have to win the world cup to have been considered to perform well enough for a halberg? Haha get a grip.

His logic is one I've said many times.
I could invent a sport, get 30 friends, make a world championship category for all 30 of them, naturally win them all,and be the most successful sport in nz.

Win the halbergs,if I don't I'll claim tall poppy syndrome.

Allegedly

The other thing with Rowing is that the World Champs aren't actually the pinnacle - rowers will take them off sometimes to try and peak for the Olympics. Having it every year devalues them in my mind.

So this. Was going to say the same thing. Drysdale goes on about having so many World Champions but it isn't that hard when they are held every year.

As a single moment I wouldn't have a problem with netball getting it. A moment is just that. It doesn't matter that they only had to beat Australia, as a moment, that single game is one of the best there has ever been.

I think that the All whites deserve Team of the year, and that 3 draws at the world cup was infinitely more impressive than a netball world championship, but as a moment a double overtime win against your biggest rivals is right up there.
Well put, the moment award is completely different to Team of the Year or Coach of the Year.

As an aside, anyone follow Doug Golightly on Twitter? Hes urging people to vote for the Kiwis because they showed guts and didn't get lucky like the All Whites did in that dour round ball code. I will put 50 million dollars on the fact he was not saying anything like that while the World Cup was on. It sickens me that people like him have influential positions in our sporting media.
Doug is on twitter????

My favourite moment in all of them tbh is the paralymic skiing guy. As far as moments go I think that is awesome.

All Whites should win team and coach. How Julian Dean didn't get nominated for sportsman is baffling for me but meh.

Brettdale - you should really stop telling people how to have emotive reactions to things, people feel about a moment how they feel about it. You really will be turning people off.

This. All it really does it sway neutrals to support netball.

Well it seems the netball fans will be turning people to the all whites on that thread.

The netball fans aren't trying to force people into voting for netball though, they're just saying that made them happiest and that's their favourite moment.

Three for me, and two for them.

Care factor of  minus 11 at what netball fans think of football personally
Que sera sera If the All Whites win (i hope they do) Awesome but if the Kiwi's or the Silver Ferns win it Well done to them both as well you can't take anything away from both of their achievements

Do the Halbergs matter to anyone outside of NZ ?

For what it's worth it appears that JP has his wall on public so it's possible for someone who isn't a friend, or have mutual friends to view his page (like me, for example).

I feel kind of seedy stalking out his page to read the comments though...

No.

Even further, do the Halbergs matter to most of the people inside New Zealand?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

All I know is, Halbergs make great toast bread.
I like tautologies because I like them.

Bump, are people still voting everyday (and for Winston's goal)?

Permalink Permalink

Sure am. Does anyone know when voting will close?
Permalink Permalink

being able to vote everyday makes a mockery of the thing (unless of course Winston's goal wins!!) but really should be limited to 1 vote per person, otherwise it losses it's integrity

It's the Halberg's brozef, Integrity = nil.

You can't limit it to one vote per person though. You can limit it to one vote per computer but some people have lap tops, cellphones, work computers etc. It's impossible to limit texts as well.

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

I have a very real concern that you might explode if the presenter says something about how the netball was exciting.

Actually, concern is not the right word.......

Having 1 vote per device per day only compounds the problem that chchnix was pointing out.

Only people with an alleigance to a certain sport would bother voting everyday, making it a popularity contest rather than what peoples favourite moment actually is.
