I am a big fan of Ben Sigmond, he typifies what fans want to see from their players such as determination, hard work, heart on sleave ect ect,

but how effective is he at right full back? thoughts?

personally i would have seen dodd on the bench ast night, muscat in at right back, siggie and durante through the middle, or event have lef tthe back four as was vs sydney

I thought he went alright yesterday. Not as good as he is in the middle, but OK. Bit of a selection headache for Ricki tho', with McKain, Dodd, Durante and Sigmund in the mix for CB.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

No way.  I would have back 4 like this:

Lochhead - Dodd/McKain - Sigmund - Durante

I do agree with you Siggy should be in centre

If he stays injury free he should be starting every week. He's fully committed. Personally I think he should be centre back but either way he needs to be starting.

If he starts it should be in the centre, as on the right Muscat and potentially even Mulligan and Christie offer more on the right. He'd be useful on the bench given his versatility across the back four as well.
My ideal Phoenix defence based on current form would be something like this:

Muscat     Durante      Sigmund    Lochhead

How can people start Muscat ahead of other defenders. Hes average, and clearly only signed as a backup. Doesnt deserve a start.
Siggy has been great everytime hes played, and has fully worked hard enough to earn his starting spot..He did ok on the right too i thought. Am starting to see that he definetly has the ability to play at this level too

Allegedly

I thought Siggy did OK as right back. Better defender than Muscat/Mulligan, not great going forward, but does good enough job.

Well yes he was made to look average by Melbourne.

But he had a great game in our win against Sydney and is probably a better right attacking option than Sigmund on the strength of that game. Who played a great game in the CENTRE against Sydney when we all got excited about people playing in their actual positions.

Muscat has had several solid games, and shown much more than Mulligan.

He did better in defence than I thought he would but isn't good going forward. Though compared to Lochhead I guess no one in our squad is at fullback.

Siggy = great at CB, opk at RB, I agree with those that have Muscat on the right with Siggy Durante in the middle and Lochead on the left.

Sure Muscat was brought in as cover, but in the Sydney game he had a blinder! He like all our defence during this season has made one or two bad decisions which have cost us, but overall I rate him as a strong defender with good attacking options.

Siggy great wherever and for me he is a must start in the back four, centre or on the right. In my opinion Mulligan should be released back to skunthorpe or whatever, no vision, composure, touch or agression. Just big diagonal long balls where our strikers have no chance. No thanks.

mickey muscat is rubbish. mulligan should be playing hes got plenty of experience playing a higher quality of football, and has only had a handful of games this season. Shouldnt have got rid of steve old either he couldv'e made a better 'cover' player than muscat.

Siggy only at CB for me. At this level of footy fullbacks really do need to be very pacy and comfortable getting up the field and slinging in quality crosses.

A la Lochead at his best on the left flank.

I guess the trouble is none of our RB options tick all of my necessary boxes as of yet.HarryHotspur2008-10-07 17:18:10

Muscat > Mulligan >>> Old
I like tautologies because I like them.

I reckon giving Durante a go on the right, with Dodd/Sigmund in the middle could be the solution. And I think we need to face the fact that our RB will never be as good as our LB at getting forward - Lochhead really is excellent and it's great seeing him back in form.

I do. He's the best option out of Muscat, Mulligan and himself there.

Which part of mulligan's game has been good? He had all the hype and promise but the games he's played he has looked completely lost........he's sh*te

Agreed. Mulligan's looked absolutely sh*thouse. Mind you, I did have concerns when we signed him that people were raving about his ability to take free-kicks, not much mention of anything else. Not really the first thing I'd look for in a potential fullback.Jag2008-10-08 11:56:44

and yet in the two?? games he's p[layed Daniel was taking the spot kicks, and based on the chatter I was expecting mulligan to take at least one of them.

I think Mulligan would've found his feet at RB if we'd given him more gametime, but we were all getting too pissed off with his dismal efforts before that happened. Maybe with proper preseason preperation he could have gotten up to scratch but he didn't and now we've seen better performances by both Siggy and Muscat.

I dunno, watching him get caught with the ball at RB, then panicking as some opposition team player bears down on him as he tries to get rid of the ball was horrible to watch.

Siggy may not have the best going forward or crossing the ball but at least he never sh*ts himself when getting the ball in his own half.

I really hope its a confidence thing with Mulligan, but  I can't see how we have the luxury to play him there, (RB), again from the starting line up this season.

What's his actual favoured position?

Right back!

Although has spent a lot of his career wide in the midfield.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
