"The Ring of Fire" catches fire?
Jade would be best or maybe Napier.

Neither large enough, no lights at Newtown and the lights at Porirua are not good enough for TV.

Either way if the stadium burnt down the game would be rescheduled for a later date like when that game was flooded out over in Aus.

Napier then, easier to Travel to or Palmy, we under estimate the numbers that would travel up there to follow the lads. So long as our season passes were still allowed to gain entry.

Exactly the reason why Terry needs to build us a purpose built 25K All Seater Stadium as well as building Apartment blocks on the same site. The sale of said apartments will raise the capital to fund the World Class Football facility that will house our Wellington Phoenix FC!

It would need to be Fire Proof too then there's little chance of having to watch a home match outside Wellington!!!

OK No roof.

Concept a good one though! Are you reading Terry?

Imagine the noise from the crowd with a roof, not the radio music though. They should ban that,

Would love it to be Waikato Stadium, but the locals are a bit apathetic towards football in general**. With the right promotion it could work though. Only an hour and a half (max) away from Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua. Great stadium, great facilities, worked well for the U17 WWC.

**Prove me wrong.

Hamilton put on a good gig when a certain Kevin Keegan trotted out for Claudelands Rovers one or two years back

Waikato always get a good turnout for the warriors in pre-season plus it's probably the best football specific ground in the country.  Get's my vote.

Normo's coming home

I wouldnt mind Auckland.
If we travel up we can teach them how its done. I would expect the same crowd numbers as the stadium though.

I'd travel anywhere within the same country as myself. NZ wise, my vote would go to Christchurch, they've certainly earned the right. Waikato Stadium would be my next bet.

Why not take Smeltzy and his mates down to Invergiggle at the start of the season? Or if not, Robbie 'White Line' Fowler?

We're not here to make friends, and it'd be a legendary road (and air/water) trip

MT Smart for me, brings back fond memories. Are our old seats in front of the corporate boxes still their or did they go with the revamp?

Being selfish.... Waikato
Living the memories.... Mt Smart - yep being near and then with Bloc Five got me hooked into coming back
Being generous... Christchurch

Wynton Rufer was good at taking the Kingz on the road, which many people really appreciated: training camps at Rotorua, training session in Whakatane, games at Hamilton, Mt Maunganui, Wellington, etc etc. I thought his and Chruis Turner's concept of a NZ team was excellent. A pity the Auckland public blew their chances.

Got the ideal site from my point of view.  HUTT PARK.  You will never beat the Ring of Fire as a venue.

Good call and a good site begging for redevelopment. Handy to trains and plenty of parking.

If the stadium burnt down... hire some flood lights that are suitable for television and do it at the Basin.

Else do it in Christchurch, they'd deserve it.Michael2009-02-21 12:18:16

AMI would be fine for atmosphere. Get everyone in the lower bowl and Tui and it would be as good as qe2.

Have to remember that AMI is missing a stand anyway so It would effectively be like Qe2.

It's not like it's completely outside of the realms of possibility to hire some powerful lights like they did for the U-17 womens world cup.

Surprising how little interest there is in Auckland.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

OK, I'll take this seriously this time around.

Think Hamilton would be a very good option. The city has been very proactive in getting top-class sports events, and I'm sure they'd do a very good job of promotion and marketing for the game. Hamilton itself is a decent sized city (for NZ, that is) and has Auckland in the near vicinity, as well as BoP, so with good marketing the crowd could be a very good one.

The other options, in order of preference:

Christchurch - have given decent support for the Nix in pre-season matches played there in the past, and perhaps deserve a regular season game for that previous support. Dunedin isn't that far away, so perhaps supporters from there could also end up boosting the numbers. The potential downside is the proverbial parochialism of the Cantabs - from memory, the Warriors didn't get flash crowds when playing in Chch (perhaps something to do with the weather, think it was pretty bad every time the Warriors played there), but maybe has something to do with Cantabs (gross generalisation here!) not all that fussed with supporting teams that have a clear regional identity from other parts of New Zealand. Potentially risky IMO (i.e. the crowd could end up being 4-5,000, hardly worth taking the game away from Wellington for that).

Napier - clear upside is that there's a lot of Nix fans over there, and not too far for Wellingtonians to get there. The stadium is currently having work done for RWC 2011, so don't know what the capacity is right now. The place itself is not that big, so an aggresive marketing campaign would need to be launched in accross the wider region (Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Wairarapa) to get a good crowd. Could be too much trouble for it's worth.

Auckland - shouldn't get it purely based on a matter of principle. Failing twice with a professional football team is a blight on a city that likes to portray itself as the place to be in NZ. But still has a very large population, and some very good football people there. But getting to Hamilton isn't really that much more trouble for Aucklanders than getting to NHS or Mt Smart, so I think a sizeable chunk of football supporters would head down to the Tron for a Nix game.el grapadura2009-03-02 12:03:13
