I can see Coveny playing for 60 mins then getting subbed for Costa.
Costa will be like Nathan Burns in Version 2 in my opinion, maybe a touch worse.

I think you guys should try and sign african international players.
They would be hungry for a good lifestyle and Jonas Salley proved they can play.
Togo, Angola, Ghana have proved on the world stage they can play but it seems A-League clubs are obsessed with South American players.
They also provide flair.

Aussie Pride - the best African talent gets swept up early by the European clubs.  It's hard to find a golden nugget over there.  Whereas you go to Brazil and you can pick off any number of lads from Div 1 clubs, lads with plenty of experience.

And to those dubious of Lunatic - I've figured out who he is, and despite his outrageous pop at me...  All I'll say is that you can take what he says as 100%

Roberto Carlos is good on attack, his defense isnt that great. Tell me this, would you rather an italian defender or a Brazilian one, if you had no indication to their skill level?

Anyway back on topic, whens this new guy gonna be released as a signing? And how good is he?

the new sighning that I hear will be announced is a defender called Karl Dodd. I think he played for Roar in season 1.

As for Felipe you must realise his contract runs out on 30th June

He'd be a solid signing, could play CB or RB and do it well. Currently at Falkirk.

Felipe is a Panopoulos boy right?  Does Panopoulos have some sort of exclusive deal with Brazil?  Weren't all of Victory's Brazilians Panopoulos signings last season...  Is Daniel a Panopoulos boy too?

Hopefully Campos has enough time in pre season to gel with the squad as will be joining a month after everyone else.

Not true as you can see with the angolan national team, a team who made germany 06. There are players playing in angola who arn't 36 etc so im guessing NZ would be a better place to live than angola.
Notice captain akwa is uncontracted and only 30.

Sign Akwa, he's a decent player and he's a scream. He looks like the only reason he's playing football is cos all the discos are closed. Great name too.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Phoenix need to get an African player or a French Ligue 1 player.

If he's been playing in the Middle East he'll be used to earning big money - at his age and with his record he'll be looking to Japan, the MLS or another stint in the middle east, rather than a move down under.  No disrespect to our league, but the big money is elsewhere.

As for the others - 9 of them still playing in Angola (12 months after Germany 2006), the rest have already gone overseas.  This would suggest that either none of the 9 want to leave, or no one wants them.

I've nothing against them, I just want a bit more samba down under.

What about the younger players from countries such as angola etc.

If you want samba Coasta Rica killed NZ 4-0 or 5-0 not long ago and they have plenty of players at home.

haha cmon man iv seen some of ur posts and they have actually been worth considering but jeez mate Sean Devine haha he cant play football. No pace and no skill at all just size and chops people. Got Costa and coveny and maby even da attacking midfield brazilian who can play upfront. Dont need Devine. Need defender!

Costa Rica must have a pretty good domestic league. They are a quality side. Not many of their players are in the top international leagues. You are right AussiePride, we should look there for a bargain. How much would they be getting paid in their homeland?

If we build it, they will come...

I agree about looking there for bargains some of their players that are home based did play in the world cup, compared to Archie Thompson and Mark Milligan so you would assume they are better. I guessing a 200 to 300k salary could entice them and i think the Phoenix have plenty of space left in the cap.

At that level he'd have to be the marquee player.  $1.8m, even after the additional 'promotional' dispensation only leaves $80k-ish per player.  How many of the current squad do you think are on less than that?

Salary cap will make it tight - that's what the delays are in getting the last two overseas slots filled, all a matter of the management trying to get maximum value for money.

if the Rummy gets the chop that'd surely be a handy chunk of the cap freed up

Why wouldn't they fit in the cap.

Newcastle Jets have Joel Griffiths who earns between 150-250k and hes not a marquee player, they also had Carle, Rodriguez, Covic and North who would take a chunk out of the cap.

Melbourne Victory had Archie Thompson (marquee), Allsopp, Muscat, and the 3 Brazillians all earning under 100k and now they have Milicevic who would be earning 150k plus.

I don't know if extra sweetners are included in the but if you could get them a car or a place to stay it could be a good deal as they have the lifestlye too.

I mean just the Brazillians were earning under 100k each.

Clubs who have paid over $150k in the past have been burnt (Zdrilic at Sydney, Milicic when at Newcastle, Colosimo at Perth, etc) have been burnt. $160k or so is the most you'll see for a HAL player within the cap these days.

Hi Lads,

Your enthusiasm is brilliant.

I can now inform you that the Great Ricki and the even greater Terry today made a massive offer for a great Brazillizn defender who has played for PSV in the Dutch League.

Hopefully he expects the terms and is on the same plane as Felipe Campos who incidentely had his medical on Monday.

If the Phoenix get this defender together with a super star striker we will be in the semi's.

Should I have bacon, eggs and hash-browns this morning or go with a simple cereal?
