Part of me wants this (very far-fetched) scenario described above to happen ... the other half wants GCU to overtake Adelaide, meaning a trip to the Gold Coast for the playoffs.

thats stretching it a bit...

Similar results at this time of the season last year swung in our favour, and we're already on track with perfect results so far concerning Heart/Sydney/Jets... so why not?

rushes off to TAB to put $5 on this at 100-1......I admire your optimism.

Unfortunately, that game is the very last of the regular season (just after our game with NQ).

If we slip up, there is a chance that CCM will have nothing to play for and Jets will have it all to play for. In that scenario a result for the Jets is very likely.

Of course, we must never allow that scenario to eventuate!

I know, I know, its serious!

Interesting scenario here: Assuming we can beat Sydney on Wedhesday then if Adelaide beats Victory this means GCU are likely to finish 4th. But it also means we have a shot at 5th so could still play GCU in week 1.

Then if Victory can then beat Adelaide in week 1 and we beat GCU it will be off to Westpac again

I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that he has spent most of his adult football career in Australia and thats why I don't think we will get him.
Dollars may make a difference.

nice!

One great feature for us this year is again we have multiple goal sources, rather than a great reliance on a single player.

Greeny, Ifill on 7.
Brown DMac on 6.

Great stuff

So to summarise (hopefully this is right?):

Brisbane Roar are confirmed champions.
Only Central Coast Mariners or Gold Coast United can finish 2nd***.
Only Adelaide United or Gold Coast United can finish third.
Either Adelaide United, Gold Coast United or Melbourne Victory can finish fourth*.
Either Gold Coast United, Melbourne Victory or Wellington Phoenix can finish fifth**.
Either Melbourne Victory, Wellington Phoenix or Newcastle Jets can finish sixth.

***- If GCU finish 2nd, CCM must finish 3rd and Adelaide 4th.
* - If Melb finish fourth then CCM must finish 2nd, Adelaide third and GCU fifth. Phoenix cannot finish higher than 6th.
** - If Phoenix finish fifth, Victory must finish 6th and Jets are gone.

GCU have a very good shot at third, being a point behind Adelaide with a game in hand.
Victory could finish anywhere between 4th and 6th depending on results. Most likely 5th though.
Phoenix need to win both remaining games and hope Victory lose to Adelaide to get 5th, or score a single point from the two games to guarantee 6th.
Jets can only make the 6 if they score maximum points and Phoenix score no points and Jets exceed Phoenix on goal difference. If points and GD are equal Phoenix will go through on superior goals scored, since Jets relative GD is currently -5 but their relative goals scored is -6.

The most likely scenario is that GCU leapfrogs Adelaide and the others all stay where they are.

Thoughts?

Time for Ricki to use his power play (worth double points).  Followed by Maria Tutaia rolling on the ground with Temepara George.

After taking another look. CCM are not confirmed runners up. GCU can still finish 2nd if they win both games and CCM lose both. Adelaide cannot finish 2nd though...

So definitely Brisbane v Mumble Coast for the major playoff.

Kind of like the idea of sneaking up to 5th, as it leaves the possibility for a home "semi" open.

Irrespective it's off to Adelaide or GCU for our play-off match (assuming the unthinkable doesn't happen).

Both have their merits, although I fancy our chances of getting something at Gold Coast. Is that the general preference?

And I wouldn't be surprised if Victory await the winners (irrespective of the position 3-7 permutations).
