League Table 2014/15

For more than 2 hours, it was about this time in the 11-12 season. We got as high as second a few weeks later.

We were actually fourth earlier this season after three matches. Equal with Perth on 6 points but above them on goal difference.

We were also 1st= after week 1 in the 2012-13 season, 2nd in week 2, then 4th in week 3.

We were 4th quite a bit throughout the 2011-12 season too, eventually finishing fourth. As joseph mentioned, we got to 2nd in rounds 17 and 18 after winning 4 matches in a row (a feat that should have been matched with the win tonight!)

This is the kind of news that can help with the crowds. Look at the effect its having on us. I know its holiday time and everyone leaves Wellington but there is enough feel good stories in the news about football to have a flow on effect. Hopefully Australia go very far in the Asian Cup because I think that would be the default team for most Kiwis and would again, general flow effect (however unscientifically measurable)

Out best ever points total is 41.

If we get 13 more points from 16 games we will have 32 points.

We need 23 more points from 16 games.

That's doable, but no cake walk.

I was just looking to see when was the last time we had an unbeaten streak of 4 games. Turns out it was early last season (WWDW again starting from the first win against Sydney), and going back further, we had a WWWW in the late 11/12 season. But if we can go unbeaten in the next two matches, it'll be our longest unbeaten streak since the DDDDD in early 09/10 (which was before I started following!)

But will we "regress to the mean"?

Based on the last 3 seasons, 41 points will get you 4th and 38 points will get you 6th. Half way there after 11 games.

We are top half of table and playing like it, plus playing for wins not draws.  So I reckon we should average 1.5 pts per game or better.  That'd just beat the 23.  No cake walk, but doable.  #keepupthegoodform #nocrucialinjuries

A win can open a 5 point gap in 4th place. It's important to get results now because Sydney seem set to spend in January.

I wonder how much under their cap Sydney are and if they can afford many replacements.

I think if someone is out for the season their salary doesn't count towards the cap or something?

Can be used by an injury replacement who is then paid from insurance

Patrick, could you code FeverBot to do a live "as it stands" table as well during games?

I think Patrick said it copies it from the A League site so updates when they update it. That would mean they would need to have a live ladder too (I think?)

...orrrrr, there are live ladders out there, so the other way it could be done (potentially) is that somewhere else that has a live ladder and an API could be used...
