I believe the game has got a draw written all over it, however if we play some of that champagne football like last weekend, then who knows.
Heres hoping if Perth can beat the tards, Newcastle beat the Bling, and  QLD draw with CCM, then joint second will be ours..

CMON Jets and CMON Glory, don't want the pack to pull away any further. Queensland and CCM should draw

Perth probably won't lose they have a pretty good record at home while Newcastle can hopefully pull off an upset.

I believe I've identified our problem. We have the 2nd worst attack, and 2nd worst defence in the league.

Score more, concede fewer. Tony P, PM me for a CV. wolfman2008-12-06 19:41:42

Well before that our defence wasn't that bad.

CCM and QLD did draw. Still keeps us in the mix.

IMO Sydney have not been travelling very well at all, another draw there would be good for us.

As for Melbourne and Perth, anything but a Perth win would do me. We probably won't catch Melbourne. The Tards and the Reds seem to be the top two teams. I don't want Perth winning and then coming to the Ring of Fire with something to play for. Keep them down. A draw would also work for me.

Perth are winning 1-0. Rukavytsya isn't playing.

Just as I posted this Dadi scored his 2nd... 2-0.

Season defining match next week then,  cant see Melbourne coming back from the half time score, they dont look like it and Perth seem to have more in them

Not the result we were after, but we still have destiny in our own hands. Perth next week is now a must-win.

Hopefully Sydney and Newcastle draw tomorrow.

Oohhh not AGAIN.

Dear Lord,

as long as the football isn't as bad as the first "must-win" game v Perth this season, I promise to give up lustful thoughts for the entire 90 minutes.

PS I'll even do halftime and injury time if you throw in a Phoenix win

If the aim is top 4, don't we want Newcastle to beat Sydney? A draw or Sydney win drops us to 6th. A Newcastle win keeps up 5th.

If the aim is to avoid bottom, we want Sydney to beat Newcastle so that we stay ahead of the Jets.

A draw between Newcastle and Sydney merely hedges both desires and aids neither.

Perth haven't got one point away this season so we MUST beat the. If they win against us we'll be level too which would suck. valeo2008-12-07 00:42:51

so newcastle draw with Sydney and we are still in the hunt, a win to sydney dents our chances a bit.

Given that both the saturday night reults went our way third spot is in sight for next week, and it's been said before but we really need to get our goal difference up.

Whereas a Newcastle win helps our top four ambitions more than a draw. Why do so many seem to want a draw? I'd rather stay 5th than drop to 6th.

Me too, Newcastle are a bit to far off the pace to overtake us with a win, but Sydney getting a points would see us drop a spot Oska2008-12-07 17:45:56

Exactly. The only reason for not wanting Newcastle to win is if you're worried we might slip down to contend for 8th. And under that scenario, we'd be better off with a Sydney to win. It seems to me that the only result from which we fail to draw any meaningful consolation is a draw!

PS I also think that a Queensland victory over Central Coast would have been more helpful than a draw. Again, there is only one scenario for wanting a draw and that is if you think we are aiming for top 3. The quest for 4th spot itself would have been aided by Central Coast, as current incumbents of that spot, not gaining any points at all and the current top 3 not dropping points against other teams except us.

Me, I'm thinking of 4th as our best target and wouldn't be too disappointed with 5th - possibly even 6th if it came to it.

I noted the commentator in our match mention that no NZ team has ever finished above 8th in any Australian league. The NSL had 14 spots so technically you could argue we need 4th to beat the record in percentage terms. However, if we finish above 8th, even if 7th, it seems a fair bragging point for us - though 5th or 6th would make it a more justifiable boast.

I'd thoroughly enjoy a newcastle win , i just don't think they are up to it, so a draw is the the next best option, hopefully the drop to 6th would be a temp situation - we beat Perthy onvincingly and we are back in the top 4!

With our goal difference, I think with the loss on Friday, it has become beyond repair IMO. Most teams are in the 'black', we are now 8 goals in the 'red'.
