The game in hand is really only over Brisbane but it adds spice to the next fixture.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

A-League and the Nix must be still indulging in New Year's revelry (or aftermath).

There is the post-match report on the A-league site but the table still shows us on 9th place.

YF site still the sauce for the real oil.

I note that everybody predicting a big split in the table by now was incorrect.

Not sure if i stated it but I was one of those who thought that things would separate out by now.

So glad it hasn't worked out that way.   And we now "need" to cheer the lads on @RoF on 9 Jan to keep the real home game record intact.

(We're the Phoenix, and we're taking on Brisbane, we'll score goals, goals, goals, and we'll score some more again" - apologies to Tina Cross )

So currently in 4th spot on GD. CCM and NQF both look likely for a draw at the moment, but even with a win they'd be a point below us.

Jets play twice this round, which doesn't help our cause too much, but they're playing GC and Melbourne, so we can hope they don't take a point from either game.

Also need Sydney to beat Perth.Ard Righ2010-01-09 22:32:51

woo hoo table is looking a lot prettier. need to take the three next week too

Definitely three next week also. Right now we're 4th, but still on the fringes and relying on other teams, a win against the Furries and we will consolidate a spot (hopefully) inside that top 4 or 5. Which is what we need to do heading into away games at Gold Coast and Melbourne.

Radelaide about to play GoLOLd Coast. Hoping for the Reds to get up so GCU doesn't pull away further.

Great result for us: CCM 1, NQF 1

When Piney updates it, you will see that the Phoenix are:

- 2 in points from of the Roar AND have a game in hand

- 3 points in front of both CCM and NQF AND have a game in hand AND have home games against both

- at worst will still be 4 points from in front of Adelaide AND have a game in hand AND play them in Christchurch

Let's go for a draw.

We'd still need two wins to surpass them even if they lost, but a draw also denies Adelaide two more points. They're not playing too well, but given the closeness of the table, any team can win four on the trot, seemingly out of nowhere (Newcastle) and fly up the table.

Would rather an Adelaide win than a GC one though - would love for us to push for a top 2 spot (I know, I know - after wins in the A-League you feel like you are going to win the whole thing and after a loss you think you are going to get the wooden spoon)

Yeah would definetly prefer an adelaide win, theyre hardly going to catch us,but it leaves us 5 points behind GCU and with a shot of beating them

Allegedly

nah, if adelaide get on run theyll be a right niggle and could present a problem. let Syd, melb and GCU have top 3 and lets aim for 4th

In most cases, draws (in games not involving us) will be best. Only two competition points are awarded rather than three.

As I speak, it's Adelaide who lead it 1-0 at the half. Draw would be best for us, but as others have said, an Adelaide win is better than a Gold Coast win.

The big thing coming out of tonight is that we now firmly control our own playoff destiny - and starting with three points against NQF is a huge must for us. I loved it when Ifill said on the news that we'd have to get six points from the Brisbane/NQF home games if we were fair dinkum. We're halfway there.

yeah a draw would be the best imo because I'm scared of an  Adelaide resurgence and we dont want them confident

Just realised Perth have to play Sydney twice and the Tards at Etihad in their run home. Hopefully they drop points!

When the nix are in the zone they play some great footy.  However despite our huge amount of draws I think we have been very lucky with how the other games have gone in most rounds.

Hopefully the trend will continue but whatever, now more than ever, it is what we make of it ourselves.

Really good point....if we did end up in 4th place, we should rightfully give ourselves a fair chance of winning in a one-off match at the ROF.

And in the event that we were to win, we'll either play in front of 4,000 fans at Skilled Park or get another home game.

Aaarrgh!  Just realised (i.e. it has fully registeed in my consciousness) that after next week's game against NQF, there is a 5 game break until the last game in Wgtn vs CCM.

Lotto ticket tomorrow so that if I win we can head off to ChCh (maybe over the deetch too).

thats not bad at all imo. We can still catch GCU if we push, but means the reds don't get too dangerous. I think winning the game in ChCh will be very important in our top four aspirations

With the playoffs, 1st plays 2nd, then what's it after that?  3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th?
