Phoenix Playoff Watch...try bear with me!

Magic Numbers
-
every time the Phoenix win a game, the magic number for each team drops by 3.
- every time the Phoenix draw, the magic number for every team drops by 1.
- any points lost by Brisbane/CCM/NQF/Adelaide also drop the magic numbers down. A loss drops the Magic Number down by 3, a draw drops the Number down by 2.
-
the first number listed below is the Magic Number needed so that the respective team can only level the Phoenix on points. In NQF/Brisbane/Adelaide's case, this is the relevant number for us as you wouldn't imagine they would haul us in in terms of GD. The second is the Magic Number needed so that the Phoenix are sure to be finish with more points.
-
if/when each team's magic number drops below zero, this means the Phoenix are sure to finish ahead of them all, meaning the worst case scenario finish would be 6th...obviously we want higher though.

After the Adelaide/CCM game:
Brisbane - 10 or 11
CCM - 7 or 8
Adelaide - 7 or 8
NQF - 6 or 7

I love the analysis of the table by eager fans
it's clearly amongst the best things on this site

Until I came here I thought it was only 2 points for a win.

Okay, Adelaide/CCM drew and it's a result that hurts both teams' chances. Fine by us I guess.

I saw red after Reading alright, gutted!!

...but my team the Wellington Phoenix are marching on!
Hot week ahead that will test depth and match fitness. Friday Perth at home will be challenging...Melbourne 3 days later at Etihad even more so...then Adelaide in Christchurch.
(while they do some "electricals" installation in the RoF... is that right?? )

Obviously just this season Jag.. but if it was subtle reference to them beating us to Porter and Smeltz's signature then well played.

The best thing is we're looking like a team that deserves to be on 4th place or better. No team can come here expecting point and are damn lucky to get one.
If this form continues then anything can happen

And seem to be good away as well (which is good cos there's only one RoF game left).

Coming back after 2 years away just in time for the GC game, looking like that might be a huge game for the club to make the finals, freakin pumped!

So you'll be at the last game of the season (bBefore the play-offs)?  That should be a ripper and a nice prelude to the business end in Feb/March.

Crazy, three wins on the trot and now we go from least wins in the league to more than CCM, Adelaide and Fury, equal with Perth and Brisbane.  10 draws are starting to look less damning.

Loving the Phoenix in 4th place.  I still think we can reel Melbourne in who have been crap to put it nicely.  Three wins from the next 3 games is very possible.  7 points is more likely but even that will be great for us.  Hoping we can exceed 40 points and I think that's very possible.

trying not to get ahead of myself. I think the next two weeks will define the season. If we lose tyo both Perth and Melbourne (in this form you wouldn't think so, but you never no) all of a sudden things could be not so rosy.

would take 3 points from the next two. even 2 at a stretch. Then foucus into an easier end to the season.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Not getting at you scoop but phrase has had its wear this season many times. Ultimately this season was never going to be won in the first 9 games and due to the closeness of the league, I still think its the last two rounds of the season that will decide it. We will regret some results, but they wont define our season.

The defining moments of the season have been the 10 draws and stringing the 3 wins on the trot. That and 5 loses. For no other reason even if we don't make the playoffs, those will stand out.

Grumpy old bastard alert

Yeah I'm looking at the ADelaide game and the Mariners game as our Must wins. They for me will define whether we've got it. Hope we aren't peaking early

Yes. In the immediate aftermath of a match, the focus on the draws has often been as games we failed to win. Conversely, those 10 games which we didn't lose could be what gets us into the playoffs.

Thats not to say we shouldn't have won some of them, of course!

Looking back on it, for example the NQF games:

We should've won at home, and probably lost away. But even then, we would've got 3 points as opposed to 2 points for the 2 draws.

Still, if brisbane wins tonight at home, we lose to perth next week and CCM get a win next week it will be very tight and we will be only just inside the 6 with teams breathing down.

I will be paranoid and worst case scenario gazing until we are mathematically there

looks like New Castle will jump back into 4th place. 2-0 to them against Brisbane with less then 20min left in the second half
