Leo Bertos Rumoured.

Leo is a quality player, but so is Noah.  Leo is a younger and probably slightly better attacking player these days, but there isn't much in it and Noah can play absolutely anywhere.  The only spot I don't think he's played for the Kingz/Knights was keeper.

I'm bitterly disappointed that it sounds like he won't play for the Phoenix.

Ill have to side with Wombles on this one, as much as it kills me, but i think Leo does have the advantage over hickey skill wise, and attacking wise...

To be honest, according to the two OCL matches, the old Knights could beat Waitakere U easily, so why should we want any of them?

I think Pearce and Utting were the only good players yesterday

Pearce and Utting yes, Menapi too if he was fitter and Luiz Del Monte on a good day.

Luiz Del Monte hardly gets a game for city, hes not even up to the nzfc. Pearce would be a good signing

I suspect people are getting Pedro Santos and Del Monte mixed up.

According to sportal, Perth Glory coach Ron Smith admits he is still in the dark over the final make up of his squad, Smith said New Zealand pair Leo Bertos and Jeremy Christie may yet be lured away from Perth to the  Phoenix.

Bertos would be a great signing and clubman!he tends to be a crowd favourite wherever he goes and has the skill and flair out wide that we need! The fact noah hickeys retiring because the Phoenix offered him what he was worth (bugger all) and he cant find another club will show you that bertos is way better! He was wanted by a Greek Premier League outfit, Perth Glory and The Pheonix.

I never saw them as one versus the other.  There is no more versatile player in New Zealand than Noah, and no better attacking wide player than Bertos.  I think we should have stretched to sign both, but Noah obviously has had some issues with some of those involved and decided that his priorities lie elsewhere.

Well with all hopes high, they can come, but will we be willing to pay Bertos' fee...dont think so...

Thats where I am not to positive on this one is with him being close to Perth's best player and him currently on contract they will not let him go without paying the price.

Im sure the fee will be the stumbling block, if the money is there then spend it as Bertos is one of the only NZer's worth it.

I think if we can scrape in a few signings and have a handy little sum at the end i dont see a reason why we shouldnt aim for bertos...

Leo is quality...Needs to learn how to score though! He couldnt score in a brothel last season!

There was an article on the official A-League site where Smith said Perth may yet loose Bertos to the Phoenix.

Yeah its been said that 'its a possibility' that they could lose him. ONLY if we payed the fee.

I agree that it seems unlikely Serepisos would pay out Bertos' contract, but lets not forget that behind Rickis plan for the Phoenix is his even greater masterplan for the All Whites.....to qualify for Fifa WC 2010.
