Didn't have a great game on Sunday but our squad is still weaker without him and he is still the best left back we have (when Manny is playing DM anyway)

[QUOTE=simon_hampton] We did originally sign Muscat as a LB, to replace Lochhead who was expected to sign for Middlesborough. Fully confident he will be a more than adequate replacement.

Didn't we sign Manny as an injury replacement for Lia at right back?valeo2010-09-22 21:25:16

I think it was for Lochhead's trial, and then Lochhead returned and Lia got injured so we kept Muscat for the season. Because I remember both playing in the pre season game against CCM (where Lia got injured)

To all the w**kers that were glad that Locky is injured, you have confirmed what I have always thought-- you are NOT true football supporters.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Cheers. I'm not happy hes injured but he needed to be dropped, if this is the only way it'll happen thats life. Now I would call myself a true football fan considering I havn't missed a nix Home game or watched an away game live.

Actually, I would classify you as a part time fan if you do not even bother to watch the away games live.

I think he meant that he hasn't missed an away game.

Yeah happy to see him dropped, not that he is hurt. Of course some took my comment way too seriously. Sigh. I'll head back to the off topic forum now where there is less angst and strangely more sense..

Allegedly

I'd hate to know what Leggy was doing then.
If we're looking for a replacement, three words: The right Sukha.

As a matter of fact I have never wished anyone an injury.
Lochy may not have been my favourite player but I would never wish any harm to him.
In fact if you had noticed I have not mentioned him this season. Although not great he has not been as bad as some games last season.

No offense intended Leggy. I was just picking up on the fact that you have been one of his harshest critics in the past. (And sorry, I hadn't noticed your silence on Lochhead this season).

I'm not delighted that he's injured. I agree with certain elements on both sides of the Lochhead issue. I think we may well miss him. IIRC, this has been the case when Lochy has been out in the past. My concern is the lack of protection for the defence if Manny does indeed go to LB. Lia hasn't really provided this in the past, although to be fair, I don't think he's played in that role as part of a 3-man central midfield.

Usually Lia has been partnered with Brown with two wide players, or with Manny in the screening role. I'd be interested to see how he goes in the screening role, playing behind Brown and Ward. He can break up the play, and has a reasonable passing game. I like Muscat out wide too. I think our best cross from LB last season was from Manny.

On the other side of the fence, I would like to see direct competition for Lochhead, rather than the knowledge that we've got a utility-type player capable of stepping in if needed.

lochead injured blessing in disguise..

Just wondering how having our only specialist left back, who plays better in that position than anyone else in the squad is a blessing? If you mean other teams can now take advantage and you barrack for said teams then I understand your lack of understanding.

Having any of the team out is not a blessing in disguise, it weakens us to the point where the likes of Manny, who is going great guns in the middle, may have to move.

Anyone else on here had a groin injury and actually tried to kick a ball? It is f**king agony and I for one hope that Lockie gets it right and comes back better. We don't have left back depth and he's crucial, no matter what silly people say.

I knew reading this thread would expose some morons and get the blood going, but I just had to look to see how many there were.... I expected whoooooooo. At least most can see it is bad news for the team.

From the front page.

Lochhead's injury is a tear, not a strain. Needs surgery, and he'll be out for 8-16 weeks.

May you live in interesting times, indeed

Don't like this...Manny in the midfield!

Lia Brown and Ward in the midfield? That'll be interesting. Ward and Brown are worries...Lia may be reliable have to wait and see, but Muscat has been our standout performer. Easily most consistent.

Lia and Ward are the worries for me - both can be great and absolutely horrible in the same game. Brown is usually pretty solid if not spectacular.

surely hearfield can't be any worse. both useless at defending, but hearfield good going forward, lochhead not
daniel and lochy together have given us some great plays down the left and lochead has delivered more good crosses per game than hearfiled, who I am struggling to recall putting in one good cross the whole time he has played for us, but that may be just me.

now we find lochy's been injured all season we know why he's not been crossing well and probably it has affected him turning to track players looking for the through ball in behind - the two things he's been criticised for on the forum

will be good if we can see him back at his best after recovery

Manny will be a better LB than Lochhead. The worry is the midfield. Lia or Brown need to do Manny's job or will RH change the formation around the personnel shuffle?

Fuck this stupid game

Manny was OK against Boca (I think he filled in at LB there), but was found wanting when he filled in on our mini-tour against Perth and Melbourne late last season (again from memory it was Manny at LB in those games). We missed Lochhead heaps in those games, So depends which Manny turns up.
A bit like Lochhead. A bit like a number of our players right now.

I know, I know, its serious!

You are quite right about me being one of his harshest critics. I stand by what I said. I would have dropped him yonks ago, but I am still sorry about his injury.
The funny thing is that(I know he is not 16) I reckon with some coaching he could be a lot better.

Interesting to note that one of the players previously lambasted the most is now returning to a hero's welcome.

Ita because as mentioned earlier he is our only left sided defender, he still is hot and cold and that will never change.
He is fantastic with geting forward and even beating players, I really struggle with the fact he cannot cross the ball into strikers.

Please sign a left back, Lochhead isn't good enough.

not exactly a hero's welcome - but then again I've never lambasted the guy either

he's a decent a-league full back - which is more than be said for some of his replacements

an obvious exception being Manny(and we need him in midfield)

and it's always good to see a player back from injury and available for selection (or in some cases - not this - available for transfer)

as noted, Lochy's got a good engine and does get forward well - shame about some of his crosses though

hopefully he'll be fully recovered and refreshed when he gets back onto the park

As our record with him playing last year shows  (not)

Give him a chance to show what he has when he comes back, when he isnt carrying an injury as he was for a long time

Personally I am looking forward to seeing him on the field again

To be fair he has put decent crosses into the box in the past, struck some poor form after returning from that trial. His service has gotta be better than Daniel's recently! Hell I'd I'd be rapt to have some of his crosses with the corners and aerial ball we've had in recent memory.

Can you cross better with a dodgy groin?

My thoughts exactly. Well I hope that was the cause because it will be fixed lol. Though I still say find some cover or a utility for that side like Kilian or some other easy access NQF player lol
