totally agree with this, Fenton seems to have a great attitude towards his future - as you say JV I'd expect him to be resigned without issue, but if he continues to train and play like it's not certain then all the better.
Louis Fenton Thread
I think we should look to get James Musa in on a short term contract. Can't be too many better options floating around domestically.
"I really want to try and go pro again. I want to get into the summer league and then go from there. Hopefully people will watch me there and I can push on." - John Goodison Irving, 26, ACFC FB, ex-captain Everton reserves.

That local being... C*a*h*m or... K*l*e*?
Caution: Last post contains traces of bollox
I have to ask how he passed a prematch fitness test. I'm loathe to point fingers because a player will always say 'yeah I'm good' but after popping last week from a previous dislocation, there is no way he should have gotten near the pitch.
Such a shame
Fenton is a very good player, super young, a regular starter since last season. He only gets better in the next years. I would re-sign him right away, so he is not going anywhere. It's an investment. He is maybe dreaming for a career in Europe, that's fine, if he's good enough he will go. But why loosing him to another A-League club? There are a lot great footballer who stayed at one club for a long time and help to shape it.
Same for other players, imagine a young Boyd in 4-5 years?
So Boxall is to be shoe-horned into RB.
This will be interesting. Wonder if he will be targetted.

Guess this also means Shermy will end up being a one season, 0 game player for the Nix then.

What about Bertsch? More like a midfield replacement for Ifill, he needs an import spot. Bertsch played pre-season and always looked like a starter if we could not fill the spot. He's a bit older and one of the original school of excellence boys, he can't be to bad.
He hasn't played much for TeeDubs this season.
Personality related? Wouldn't be the first for Calcott

Us losing Rojas, and also Barbarouses, had a bit to do with what they could achieve in another club on the park.
With others, it might have more to do with the money (Smeltz).
Interesting quote from the start of his career.
Louis has certainly been a club stalward and would easily be our most commited home grown product. On his day one of the best kiwi's we ever signed/developed and likely to be our only one career club player.
Such a pity Covid robbed you of your chance to be a champion at least once in your career.
All the best in retirement mate, thanks for some great goals and memories!

The import rules mean it will keep happening. Rufer/Fenton for example are/were good enough to play pro in the A-League but not good enough to get a contract as an import at another team. How Ridenton got an import spot I'll never know.
Promise he didn’t come good on. And the Darje years. I wonder what Uffie might have done with him younger. He did play further forward a little bit at points, but not as much gas as say Van Hattum or Bidois. The lad was very talented. Perhaps a motivation/focus thing?
Possibly the same to a lesser degree with Louis, because of injuries. He had a higher ceiling than we saw.
Be interesting to see how Rufer goes, as he seems to have had more attention to his game than the others and showed some class in this system. His passing has a good range and control and he is starting to make forward runs to good effect.

You could call him a stalwart, but I wouldn’t really call him a one-club player, he has over 100 appearances in the National League for Canterbury and ACFC. They aren’t pro, but I wouldn't call Adam Parkhouse a one-club guy either, for example.
The chances of the Phoenix having an actual one-club guy are pretty low, because the players from Wellington young enough to go straight into the Phoenix are probably setting their sights a bit further. On the other hand, the battlers who will play at the age of 27 or so probably won’t have been good enough at a young age, or have come back from playing overseas.

Fenton and Sigmund both had short stints in Aussie as well as the Handy Prem. But from a pro point of view if Fenton is a one club player so is the Cantab
Be interesting to see what happens with Rufer. He’s only 26? He could still yet go overseas. One season left on his Nix deal
