Cripes you're hardly one to froth with enthusiasm but that was a gloomy post even by your standards JD...
Marco Rojas - The return of the Kiwi Messi
video!

JD wasn't hugged as a child... leaving the bitter, twisted forum soul we see now.
Great finish with his left foot - missed an opportunity before that but bounced back and scored; well done.
google translate piece from the tabloid 'BILD' paper on why Marco doesn't get a start at Furth...
"Two internationals, 6000 flight miles and then onto the bench. Exactly the same fate threatens Zsolt Korcsmár! more ...
Coach Frank Kramer (42):. "When it becomes serious, Marco holds often too long the ball hits the wrong decisions" Exactly why was the New Zealander with Chilean roots even a single time in the starting lineup, so far came only to three short-term assignments.
In the test against Chemnitz (4: 0) the feisty attacker could now again from the beginning ran. Could but despite a goal (to 1: 0) make only limited in-house advertising. Kramer: "Preparing games are one thing, Official matches the other. In test matches can you get any rhythm. "
Why Rojas despite strong preparation in Stuttgart at the shamrock still so hard doing, Kramer explains: "It's a different starting position. There he ran alongside with, here he was needed - that he thinks too much after ".
That hopefully is a very poor translation? Doesn't appear his new gaffer rates him

I've tried to improve the translation above.
Sounds like things are going really badly for him at Greuther Furth and he won't see much playing time in the foreseeable future.
Although Marco was a very good player in the A-League, I was surprised he was signed by a Bundesliga club. Not many players as physically lightweight as him succeed in Germany.
Wynton Rufer always said he should see how he goes in the German second tier first - but now he's struggling even there.
He's had a whole season out injured though and maybe eventually he can overcome the criticisms made of him above by the Furth coach if he gets fitter and sharper.
Sounds like the Furth coach hasn't been too impressed and he'll have a really tough battle to prove himself though...
Sounds like Rufer was right....Marco is not Bundisleague quality....and is struggling in Div2 to have an impact. THe only Fuerth games I watched made me realise how physical the football is and how big and athletic the players are.
Hindsight is a great thing....in reality Marco should have gone to somewhere like Holland. He would be tearing it up now just like Ryan Thomas

If I was Marco id ask to cancel my loan there, go back to Stuttgart and ask for a loan in the Netherlands or Switzerland.
Stutgart will want him playing in Germany. I imagine he will go somewhere else in contiental europe at the end of the season when I'm guessing his cotract runs out.
It reminds me of that time Yoda told Luke Skywalker he wasn't ready yet and he should stay in the swamp and finish his Jedi training and Luke was all like "don't be such a buzzkill Kermit, I'm outta here".
Yoda was right though. What Luke did was very irresponsible and resulted in him getting his arm cut off by his estranged father.

And then learnt from his mistakes, eventually becoming the grand master of the new jedi order? No doubt Marco has the talent to succeed, but I think this shows how hard it really is, for even the best of kiwi talent to make the jump from being a moisture farmer on tatooine to making an impact in big european leagues.
For the all whites to be competitive in the long term, I think NZF really needs to be helping players navigate these pathways to european leagues in a significant way.
So he skips out on an AW camp to go sit on the bench of a team lower down than where he normally is? What???
So he has dropped down a division to come off the bench??????
Then from Marco's standpoint, what's the use in going there??
I think that to use him as injury cover cause he may leave is just cutting off your nose to spite your face. If you are a coach, you want to get wins to stay employed. If Marco helps, you play him. This loan is going to backfire on Marco.
I'm not saying its doomsday at all.
He was signed to play in a German 1st division team and depending on which coach they had, he was a vital cog or not playing at all which suggests that he was probably good for coming off the bench if the truth is somewhere in between. Now he has gone out on loan to get minutes and thats awesome but he has gone down a level and yet only getting 15mins a week. Judging by the translation above, it seems they don't intend to use him. How is this a good move for Marco? You would think dropping down a level, he should get a lot of playing time and if he was, that would be fantastic for him. But he is not.
I think I said from the get go that this loan would be a bad move after it was flagged that he played nothing in his first couple of games
I have to say the 'kleeblatt fan forum' is a pretty ugly place for Marco right now....a couple of posts lamenting the waste of money, he has no chest width, is defensively weak, too small to win the ball, takes too long deciding what to do and misses connecting opportunities.....but then you watch his goal against Chemnitz FC and it is taken very nicely.
The coach seems pissed that Marco expects to play with-out fighting his way into the team, and Marco seems pissed that he has been loaned from vfb for match experience to have only played 29 minutes. The German tabloids are quick to point out that any credentials from his a-league success have long since burned away. Cross fingers that Marco can leave Germany soon and join a league which will suit his stature and skills...............

Uh oh......... Marco for Nix (marquee?)
One of the problems you have though Rob if you are Marco is that the only place he has any currency now is in the HAL. His resume reads "Went to Europe - failed" Most teams wont look too far beyond that into the details why, just see that he failed. Sounds kinda similar to Burns. Doing well here, went overseas, got injured, back in the HAL.
You have to ask now though, what team in the HAL takes him on as an import (because he is for 9 teams) and 1 obvious place where he is a local. Teams in the HAL will sign him because he is a Johnny Warren winner and a proven quantity. The other factor is his Dad being involved which I understood burned some bridges along the way but I have nothing other than 2nd hand rumours.
I think Marco would provide the Phoenix a better version of Cunningham with a better touch and sleight of skill. Him and McGlinchey would be dangerous on opposite flanks. I also know its a pipe dream and wont happen and he is better off in Holland where that league may suit his skill set a lot better. In my opinion, Marco is a better footballer than Ryan Thomas (whom has turned out fantastic) and look at what he is doing. They are very similar footballers.

snap.
it is all a bit fecking depressing - I feel sorry for the kid. Maybe it is time to go off the rails on drug and drink and reinvent himself as an uber-ambitious national coach in 11 years.
win-win.
Reckon Zwolle would take a punt on Marco??? Thomas is looking like he's off to bigger and better things in the near future
I'm not sure Zwolle would want to sign him, but I agree that, should Marco not be playing 1st team football in the Bundesliga 2 by the Christmas break, he would be much better off going to a different club and try his luck elsewhere.
Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Denmark and perhaps Portugal (he speaks Spanish and that would perhaps helping pick up the language) and Holland are all viable options I reckon.
vfb would not be impressed by his present market price I imagine.
Think he should come back to the A-League for a year or two, personally.
What he needs first and foremost is guaranteed game time.

no doubt victory would get the first look in, they love him, he loves them.
this weekend will be pivotal for Marco....a defender at furth is injured and the best replacement comes off the left wing.....leaving it open for a start.
cross fingers
Sydney, Perth, Melbourne City, Central Coast and us are the only A-League teams who could pick up Marco right now. We all have space for one more foreigner but a lot of teams would not have the cap space. It is all very well saying that the move to 2. Bundesliga was a failure but Marco probably had no choice in the matter. Furthermore if he fails in 2 Bundesliga then I think it is fair to say he would never make it for Sttutgart anyway.
He was doing ok when he first went over and then they had a change of coach and injury at the same time.
We can't sign Marco as we have no squad spots spare unless we move a Rufer or Ridenton to one of these 3 youth spots we now have. Can we do that? I don't know.

Would he qualify as a marquee?

in before "lia out"
Reading the article I thought it did not sound to bad, don't forget Bild is not exactly serious journalism. Snippets, out of context.
I'm optimistic, I read it more like: Coach let him play in a friendly, points out issues, Marco has to work on that.
Let's hope he plays a real game and leaves his mark.
didn't leave the bench for the game on the weekend. Another very dull week of Marco watching. Like waiting for Pandas to shag.

I think there's been an unfortunate mistake with this loan deal. They were looking to sign someone to sit on the bench for long periods and they heard that Stuttgart had a player available for loan with a rock arse.
Ba-doom tish
Played the full 90 and scored a goal in a 2-0 win for Greuther Furth II in the Bayern Regional Liga (4th tier) against Wacker Burghausen on the weekend - and a number of desperately unhappy Vfb supporters are lining up on facebook to demand his return to their injury decimated squad from a club who don't want him proper.....

Thomas Broich's old club when he was a youngster.
Jeez, how friggin demoralising it must be for Marco now.
On the bench in the DFB Pokal at Kaiserslautern, his team 2-0 down at half time and already by the 65th minute 3 substitutions have been made, and he's not one of them. He must wonder what he's doing there (as will VfB).
Full Time Edit: Ha, no change in the score - no goals for Fürth. Schadenfreude time. Kramer raus, Kramer raus!
might as well get injured so he gets some attention - more massages, better food, less pressure
We have the squad space...
