lol comparing tom cleverly and marco is silly.. miles apart in ability.

My personal view is that NZ players are failing overseas because they are trying to take shortcuts/ skipping steps. I mean sure ALOT of nz players and traveled all around the world trialing at top clubs. Majority of them dont even get signed. Sure.. some of them do sign.. but arent there very long. Classic example is chris killen.. He must have a world record for having the most clubs to his name . The jump from NZFC/A-League to Premier League, Scottish League or whatever is too great and the players cant handle it. They should be looking at K-League, America, Lower leagued english teams or something before trying to Sign with West Brom or whatever. Thats how Ryan Nelson and Winston Reid made it. You could argue that Chris wood did but not really. He keeps getting loaned out for experience. Same with Tom Smith, He kept getting loaned out till he finally got good and earnt a place in ipswich. Michael Built and Cameron Lindsay both got released because they couldnt cut it. Luis esteves signed with Portland timbers u23s.. got dropped, came back to NZ and now he cant even make the waikato squad. Tim payne is signing for blackburn sure.. But lets not confuse ourselves and think hes going straight into first team. Hel be playing reserves or whatever and most likely either get loaned out and dropped. Kosta going to russia was a great move! (sh*t lifestyle) but great football. We need to do it in steps and stop thinking that a league players can compete with premier league players. A league is good for marco.. hel only be wasteing his time trying to get signed overseas.. he should focus on being a regular starting for victory and bagging some goals first. Hes been playing shyt lately (missed a penalty, gave away a penalty.. he defs needs to step up). (apologies for any errors/parts of this post that dont make sense.. i cant be bothered reading back through it)

agree with what asus said... to an earlier post marco and cleverly are not in the same situation different environment diff leagues and alot more money being thrown around there. another level all together over there. and fact is cleverly would have been under the guidence of sir alex and top coaches who have been doing it a long time not the level of a league coaches or set ups so trying to compare the to is pointless come on sport. Think about it marco left when the phoenix were not financially secure and anything could of happined to that club so he made the right move for his future.[/QUOTE]
