Seems to be getting starts and good minutes with the first team. Really hope he succeeds here, he's getting to his late 20s now, and one more failure and that could be that for him in Europe.

Danish top flight now has winter break until 16th Feb. Though I note there a 3-4 friendlies scheduled earlier through Jan-Feb, incl one against Nikko Boxall's Viborg.
Until then a summer break in the sunny Tron, for Marco?
Wikipedia says Marco is leaving SønderjyskE at the end of the month???
does it say where he is going?
Philip Rollo teasing a long term signing in Jan...
From Wiki
SønderjyskE confirmed the signing of Rojas on 22 January 2019.[33] He signed a one-year contract with an option to extend it further, and got shirt number 17.
Word on FB is that he was trying to negotiate a new contract for more money and was asking too much so the club decided to release him as a cheaper option. Is his father still his agent? From a distance as a player whom the YF helped get through to first team football with sponsorship, I have kept an eye on his career.
He did well at Victory but I can't help thinking his agent let him down by asking for too much. It has hurt his career which was so promising. Most of us would have given a left testical to get the chance he got. Such a waste that hasn't seen true fruition.
His dad let him down, by insisting he go to Europe after a breakout season with Victory. 15 goals, Johnny Warren winner.
Others (incl Victory coach Ange Post from memory) thought he should have stayed in the A League longer, to develop further.
Interestingly apart from a season back at Victory in 2016/17 (12 goals), he's never scored more than 4 goals (2017/18 Heerenveen) in a season since.
Did someone else speculate recently, that joining Ange P at Yokohama in Japan, wouldn't be a bad move for him?
Of course it wouldn't but would they want him over there is the question? Hadn't exactly set the world on fire of late

Would all depend whether Ange P, still rated him or not. J League is yes, a step up from the A League.
Yokohama maybe looking for some squad depth with ACL games, as well as defending their title.
A mini Thomas Broich project, for Ange!
I think the reason he did so well at the victory is they built the team around him, isn't going to happen in europe

I think he and his dad (agent) suffer from a mis-guided view of how "great" his success in the a-league was and its subsequent value to other bigger clubs.
From this week's Flying Kiwis
"Curious one right here. Marco Rojas’ contract when he joined SønderjyskE last January was for twelve months. He’d just gotten out of the Heerenveen thing where he was barely getting any game time and now he found himself in Denmark where he steadily worked his way to where he was basically a first choice played by the time the midseason winter break hit. But that was also when his contract expired and despite a lot of interest from the club in getting him to re-up, Marco Rojas has decided otherwise.
Hans Jørgen Haysen, Sonders ‘Sports Chief’ (aka technical director): “We have not concealed that we would like to extend the contract, and it has also been close, but in the end we could not reach each other and this is sometimes the case. He is a technically strong player who, in his good days, has also laid down our game with the ball, but during the periods when the pitches have been bad and the matches are played on other terms than what he is good at it has been difficult to put his excellent feet in the scene. We have been happy to have him in the squad, but now our roads are parting, and we wish him all the best in the future.”
Very curious. Rojas leaves having played 30 league games for the club, 21 of them starts, and scoring three goals (plus a few more games + goals in cup comps). 1886 minutes of top flight footy in Denmark over a year is a lot better than the 60 combined minutes that he managed in his last half season in the Netherlands but it does beg the question where next and before you get any smartarse ideas...

Ufuk Talay has ruled out an approach for All Whites player Marco Rojas following the expiration of his contract with SønderjyskE. Rojas is understood to be weighing up offers from other A-League clubs.
He’s been sighted in Melbourne over New Years too which feels like a rather significant clue... or maybe he just wanted to see in 2020 with some old mates, who knows? He did live in that city for a fair while, probably still has a place there. And the Danish league, like most in continental Europe, is currently on winter break with players mostly off on holiday.
Based on the quote above it sounds like there were genuine negotiations but that Rojas was maybe demanding a little much so the two parties agreed to part ways. If Rojas doesn’t have something else lined up after allowing negotiations to stall without agreeing then it’d be pretty shocking. Compared to his other permanent deals in Europe this was by far the best situation he’d been in and for a guy so desperate to make it in that continent it would be a little weird to find himself back in the A-League so suddenly. But we’ll see what happens, no hurry.

basically reads as Marco and his agent (is it still his dad) want more money than the club are prepared to offer for his sometimes brilliant play. Can't see that being a good advertisement for a future other than in the a-league where he wont have to deal with snow or anything other than a summer league.

To be honest is rather play in a Danish winter than an Australian summer.

Tough choice; playing on a frozen ground, or dehydrated paddock
You can dress for the cold.
It could well be his old man being the trouble maker here but Marco does come across as a bit of a "big head".
Am glad we're not chasing him as he/his dad may upset our squad.
You can dress for the cold.
Yeah but sunlight means more serotonin (the happy hormone).
Maybe he's not enjoying living under those grey cold Danish skies, on bumpy, muddy pitches - and just wants to be in a happier place.
The Aussie furnace will pass in a month or so.
