These games are massively entertaining and all but just once I'd like a really dull 1-0 win.
I would too, but putting it simply - we can't defend! We're getting better though. Hopefully Taylor getting into the XI will settle us down out there for our remaining matches.
Sail has been a beast too. I hope someone's putting a contract in front of him at some point in the near future too.
I really enjoyed the commentary tonight. Even though Jamie is an Ex Glory player and would have been secretly cheering them on, he gave no sign of it. Only error was mispronouncing Davila's name. I'd be happy to have then do every A-League game from Aus or NZ.
What was up with the goal that was disallowed. Would have been number 4 for us. Replays showed no handball, came off Sotirio's chest. Why didn't VAR get involved in that, or did I miss something.

I thought something similar, but it wasn't clear enough to overturn the onfield ref, probably?

Came off Sotirio's chest onto his arm, I didn't notice it live but looked reasonably clear to me on the replay.
And because it led directly to a goal, it doesn't matter that it came off his chest or natural position etc.
Great to finally win in Perth after god knows how long. Wasn't able to stay up for it but have watched the highlights on the train win. Great composure from Waineo for the first but need to see the third again. They cut out the build up play, but it was a good finish from Sotirio. Superb nix, here's hoping we can keep the pressure up on Thursday!

The ref probably made the call on the spot but because of the goal scoring opportunity let play run so if the Phoenix did put it in the net VAR would be allowed to overrule in case he got it wrong.
We saw the opposite of this in the Champions League the other week where Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham had a goal disallowed because the ref blew his whistle for a foul (which subsequently was shown to be the wrong decision) 2 seconds before Bellingham put in the empty net. If we are having VAR I’d rather they allowed a goal scoring opportunity to go on before whistling (as they do for offsides).
I watched the game and I've watched the highlights a few times since and every time I watch Sotiros goal, I think he is going to blaze it over the bar! hahaha
At halftime I was worried they would bury us in the second half. But football is a funny game sometimes. Perth team is full up to the gunwales with classy strikers but I could not name any ot their defenders. I think in the end that was the difference - a defensive failure by Perth. No discredit to our own goalmouth performance, but our win was thanks to the goals on the counter (and Jamie Harnwell said early on in the first half the the Nix can be deadly on the break), and an overcommitted Perth backline. Hope to see us keep up the form against WU in the game in Tassie.
if any of the past and present phoenix coaches listened to the ill-informed claptrap that is posted on here, the club would have been booted out of the A League years ago!!! There is a very good reason why some are professional football coaches and others are not.
Nonetheless the BS posted is usually most entertaining. Marto
While I'd normally back this call to the hilt, so glad Uffie doesn't listen to us. Joshy had a pretty good second half.
EDIT: Quote system failed. Was in reply to a call of hooking Joshy at half time.

That's the best game Sotirio has had for the Phoenix by far. But I know what you mean.
I really enjoyed the commentary tonight. Even though Jamie is an Ex Glory player and would have been secretly cheering them on, he gave no sign of it. Only error was mispronouncing Devilla's name. I'd be happy to have then do every A-League game from Aus or NZ.
If you're going to criticise someone for mispronunciation, the least you could do is get the spelling correct. "Devilla"? - not even close. And it is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable - Dávila.
Great team performance. Well done Uffie on selections. Davila fantastic. Lewis tracking all the way back to the goal line. Sotirio and Waino really good. Louis one of his best games. Yes.

Watch how far Louis is behind the play in the lead up to his goal. Obviously that's what you would expect from your fullback but it's still a tribute to his fitness and tenacity that he bothered making that run at all. And a cheeky little 'shush' to the home fans for good measure!
Superb result. As a Sotirio bagger, I apologize. That had to be his best game yet. He gave the ball away too often in the first half but the second half, he owned. Well taken goal, Well taken run for Waine's goal and nearly got Devila his goal. Sail, just how good is he?? All in all the team played pretty good. Lewis was a bit dodgy but he and Devlin never gave up. Their commitment is first class.
I watched the first half last night and the second half when I woke up. Suffice it to say the second half was a lot more entertaining than the first. Great result. We played so much better after the break so Talay must have made some good tweaks. Ball didn't have the best game but still ran himself ragged. Devlin gave the ball away a bit much but was tireless and got us a goal by winning the ball (and hit the post). Waine scored a peach and was more involved than usual. I think he benefits from playing in a Leeds advanced position as he gets more touches on the ball. Sotirio's finishing was disappointing until the goal. He's never going to be a flashy or lethal striker but if he can get himself in dangerous positions 4-5 times per game he will score often. Having Taylor at the back made a huge difference etoo I thought. Happy for Louis. He works so hard very week and deserved the goals. Sail his usual amazing self, always reliable when you need him!
personally i thought Lewis had an excellent game. Makes himself available and circulates the ball nicely. Very often he's the one who initiates good passing sequences for the team. Beautiful left foot and good vision. To my eye he's improving every game.

Ball might not have had his best game, as you say, but he does something that Fornaroli does not do: Ball runs back to defend, and is pretty effective there. I did not see Keogh or Castro run back to defend once Perth lost possession.newzealandpower

Watching the "mini-match" highlights on the official site, and am I imagining things, but was the killing move for at least two of our goals just a simple through ball from Dávila, and Sotirio won a footrace? Exactly the same tactic which proves so resoundingly effective in Women's Div 2? My coach could have given the LOLry tips on how to counteract that!
The through ball from Davila to Sotirio was sublime. It was not a simple straight pass - the ball curved away from the Perth defender and landed, perfectly weighted, in front of Sotirio.
