The team’s issues regarding the goal drought lie in the slow
transition into the final 1/3 when they are on attack.
They are slow, ponderous and deliberate and this looks like
they are uncertain what the final phase and goal scoring move is going to look
like.
As a result they completely lose the surprise and advantage of
speed. They get to the edge of the penalty area and start going sideways back
and forth, backwards, giving the opposition time to gather and set up on defense.
It’s happened in very game so far.
On the plus side the passing is usually very crisp and accurate
to their credit, right up to the final pass.
Its almost as if that’s been the training mantra these last
few weeks – a slow build up and keep possession at all costs.
But is been very predictable and easy to defend.
At half time the shackles are loosened off the wingbacks to press
forward with speed and the transformation of the side is palpable. But why wait
till then? Can’t the tactics change well before this???This leaves us only 45 minutes
to catch up if we’re behind.
If the transition is speeded up through the middle with the likes
of Devlin, Ball and Devila working in unison, the transition would create
mayhem.
At the moment Hamed is lost and surrounded by the opposition
defense on almost every move. He also needs to join the 3 behind him and work
moves with them rather than be just a target man
Multiple attacks from multiple sources is the key. There’s
plenty to work on. The issues are fixable.
