whats the bet dmac will be shite?

I wouldn't take that bet.  I think he's unfairly maligned amongst some in our supporter base.  He was our leading scorer that season and wasn't as crap as some consider him.

I thought he was decent, and we could've done with keeping him for last season.  He is certainly more useful than Pavlovich.

I thought at first that I'd lump a fortune on Heart to win, but actually, this 'B' team we are able to put together actually looks decent and a win is definitely possible.  I say GO FOR GOALS and NOT park the bus.

Bet365 - Heart $1.66 / Draw $3.50 / Phoenix $5.50  - Phoenix are longest odds of the weekend, although Victory away at Brisbane are not far behind.

Edit - And TIP OF THE WEEK from me...on Bet365, Fenton is a remarkable $29.00 to score first / last.  Unbelievable odds and I'll be having a bit of that.

Our team is still pretty decent. Attitude will determine whether we come away with anything (and scoring first away from home is key)

I expect that Greenie would like his 1st win as 'manager'

and certainly a good sign for the rest of the season if we can pick up some points with so many unavailable

Indeed. Parking the Bus implies we have a bus to park. We are playing with a tuk-tuk.

a-tuk, a-tuk, atuk atuk atuk!

I know, I know, its serious!

Dmac scores goals, not pretty one, but his ratio isn't too bad... and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

12 goals in the A-league in over 50 games? And more than 50% of those (7) was for us, only because Marco kept hitting him with his crosses, and occasionally the ball bouncing off Macallister would somehow find its way into the net.

Would love 3 points this weekend but I really doubt we are going to be good enough with all the AW's missing.

I would be stoked with a draw. I think it's achievable too, and it will be great to see Greenie's leadership compared to John Aloisi's. Two inexperienced managers going up against each other, although Aloisi's tactics were spot on against the Victory.

Considering how many of our starting lineup and subs aren't match fit I'm picking we'll get overrun in the last 15-20 minutes. Would be very happy if we nick a point.

GCU got some good results last season fielding a team full of toddlers, so there's always hope.

Because if he takes one and they go down injured and we lose he'll get lynched.  I love the Phoenix but these All White games mean more than the Phoenix league game to the sport in this country.

Apparently to some of the Australian fan base we're just whingers and if we had a team full of Australians this wouldn't happen.

Of course, sorry about that. FFA carry on. It's quite nice being in this little bubble at the edge of the world doing our own thing.  What do the rest of the footballing world know anyway?

After all the Tards invented it first.

If we get the 1 pointer this weekend, I'll be satisfied.

We never seem to have much luck in Melbourne, though.

interesting, probably not unusual but I'd like to think that Greenie had some decision-making power as he'll be watching the players in training in the days before the match (not that we've got buckets of options to play around with)

Nelsen is apparently in doubt as well as Reid now. If we lose Boxall I feel that would be the straw that breaks the camels back. With Boxall I'm quite confident we will be very competitive, around even money.

This. If Reid and Nelsen can't play in Tahiti surely Ricki will have to call up Boxall.

Post game you will be lead by radioman and Feverish and may I just say, good luck with that shit.

Also from that article, I think Ricky has to be very careful saying things like this:

In another twist, Herbert said he thought it was unfair he request Phoenix defender Michael Boxall join the All Whites' squad as cover.

"I think the club's made a pretty good contribution to this group,'' he said. "That would be a completely unfair request ... I guess I feel that from both sides, obviously.''

I'm sure both West Ham and QPR or Pana, or the Galaxy could well consider that asking players to come half way round the world for friendlies, or if the next set of matches are dead rubbers, or when other players are coming to sit on the bench etc to be unfair requests.

It sounds like Spoonley might get the start spot ahead of Basalaj.

From Greenacre...

"Scott is a goalkeeper of the future for the club and he's going to be a long-term goalie for us," Greenacre said. "And everyone knows the qualities of Jacob - he's played in some big games, in the Olympics so the fear factor won't be there for him."

I have seen Basalaj a couple of times at youth level and he went pretty well but this is probably a good move. He just has more experience and more likely to be confident which is extremely important with a rejigged defence. What do others think?

Permalink Permalink

As we said on the PodCast (I think) I don't agree with it.  Start Basalaj he's the keeper on the clubs books and at least as good as Spoonley.  If we're playing Spoonley we should be starting Imray instead (if he has NZ residency sorted) as he is the best keeper in the ASB Premiership.

If you're taking a punt, take a punt on the keeper at the club.
