Did they explain the difference in what he thought he was coming out for to what the club offered?

well summarised guys, thanks. Talked to a guy I work with who is mates with Nathan, he's reckons that there have been sponsors knocking on the door since Terry left. He also mentioned that the welnix crowd will not be spending large on a marquee player this yera but they will be looking for some big signings next season.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Quite likely in my view, and overdue. The Nix are a great brand, Terry has been dodgfying it for some time.

One of my fav moments was when you got schooled in Business 101.  I liked that he looked at the crowd in front of him to explain how it worked but his closing sentence he looked directly at you.... =)

He didn't school me
Clearly Terry was pretty hands on in terms of deicision.  It seems the new owners aren't planning to be.

He gave you al esson in Business.  In truth, we were all his pupils.

I changed my mind anyway, my fav moment was finding the marital status of one VL.

Nathan also said they are based out at Newtown Park at the moment.  And that another major sponsor would be announced.

Gareth said he was walking the fan trail for the All Blacks V France game and the number of people who yelled out Go Phoenix was astounding.  Gareth really wants to sell the Auckland game and a full eden park would be pleasing.

Robb is a really nice guy. He came and had a chat with me for almost 30min before the Q&A got started. I think he undersells his football background.

Anyway, I was able to ask him a few questions and got some, IMO anyway, informative and honest answers.

In regard to the Phoenix license and the dispensation to play in another country/confederation, the Phoenix can play to 2016 as per license and Robb said that FIFA take the view that an agreement between the FFA and NZF to allow a team to compete in the HAL is an agreement between those two federations and doesn't need to involve the AFC or OFC. However it seems that any possibility to participate in the ACL is a no go due to dealing with the AFC. So as long as FIFA see it that way all is sweet.

Alex Smith over for injury cover and potentially a full contract, ala Muscat.

I remember: In regards to marquee/big signing, it is extremely unlikely to happen this transfer window as they would like enough lead in time before the league to use the player to market the club, get sponsorship on board - more a commercial reason. A better chance to sign in January as contract will not be for a full season and give them time to market player in off season.Bullion2011-10-06 10:39:33

Actually, what was said was that Gold Coast gave him 500k, not what he was demanding from us.

Ricki implied we might recruit some of that cover from Melbourne (the city I believe - not necc Victory)

Raises a point, but wasn't he strictly talking about the Victory at the time? (The squad depth/Rojas getting game time)

Yep, it was very clear he was talking about a Victory player.

I think I can understand the logic with no spending up and I think I am comfortable with that.

Essentially, this is a team that Terry built. Yes I understand it is Ricki that fundamentally picks the players but when you read the in-betweens of Terry being hands on, it would not surprise me if there were players that Ricki may have wanted that Terry may have vetoed (speculation).

At least at the end of the year, you have some players coming off contract, a chance to take a good look at the team and where it stands from that point of view and build it during the offseason, not at the start of the season. I would also not underestimate the influence of Lee Taylor and him being a full year with the team and his experience and being able to help Ricki in that respects (plus any assistants)

I think this year is really a case of making the best of what we have (with maybe an addition or 2 for injury or midseason). Whether that is the best for the Phoenix in terms of momentum building they have just gained by jettisoning Terry, I am not sure but it would also give the football community whom are fence sitters (players, sponsors, supporters) time to measure these guys up and then commit because there will be a few fence sitters after the last 6 months with Terry. Ultimately, that may not be the best outcome for the fans but I listen to what these guys said about building a club and I can't not help but look at the Warriors and how they built theres (not the best comparison). I also think it gives the owners and their board a year to size up the operation as it stands (and they have hit the ground running) and decide next year what they need in terms of people on board or people they need to get rid of.

If I were Nathan, and this is not a knock against him and the work he has done thus far, I would be mindful of my work performance over the next 6 months or he might be departing at the end of the year. He is/was one of Terry's men after all and change usually start at the top where the new crew bring in their own people... Jeff Vader2011-10-06 10:51:57

Were you there last night as the impression is they will rely heaverly on Nathan to run the day to day club activities based on a management plan the 7 impliment after consultation. And Nathan has done a great job to get us to where we are today.

So how does that in anyway relate to what I said?

They can rely on him heavily for the day to day stuff all they like but in 6 months time, if they do not feel he has done the job properly, then they will get rid of him. You'll also note I said it was not a knock against the work he had done thus far.

You need to re-read.
