Sadly for all to see the midfield is falling, especially since the departure of Cam Devlin.  No one to break down play.  Rufer is real bad, can't tackle, pass or grab a goal and gives away to many balls or free kicks.  Last 2 games in A league have seen very little service for strikers.  Need improvement fast.

Rufer has been piss poor thus far. Perhaps the weight of the Captaincy is weighing him down. It's all good being so "passionate" about the club but it is not doing anything on the field. I haven't seen him marshalling the troops or tactically changing anything. Just the same old pass sideways or backwards and remaining one tackle away from a card. The occasion long pass forward were going straight to the jets. Last night was abysmal. But he wasn't alone, Lewis and McGarry were just as bad.

you're right, multiple players didnt perform well last night, but I expect better from my team's leaders. Ball gives his all and is probably the only one who could walk away feeling he'd done all he could. Hooper was frustrated, Reno was as well and he got stroppy. Lewis, McGarry just wayward. But Rufer, I expect him to come out a lead by example, show the lads the way - but not this guy, instead he's the main culprit, setting the standard of backward passing, putting your defence under pressure, the couple of times he attempted a forward pass it went to an opposition player. He has gotten worse this season and I hate that he is captain.

Hoping to see a Lewis-Pennington combo sooner than later.

The way some people carry on its as if Rufer is the reason for any issues the TEAM has  Yes he has made some mistakes and despite what some claim he has also done some good things. People are kidding themselves with the backward passing thing MOST in the team do it just maybe thats what Talay has instructed them to do. As for cards  given the position he plays i would be far more concerned if he wasnt picking them up. Where is all the criticism of the disjointed attack,oh shark thats right thats Rufers fault as well
Just love the over reaction from people a really bad loss on the back of a VAR contrived result after a club record unbeaten streak and get all sorts of shark posted every where.

Prior to the last result, we had only conceded 2 goals in 3 games... Rufer should get credit for that as he plays a big part in screening our back 4 and has made some brave blocks to help us keep our goal in tact.

I more worried about Lewis - 4 games in and has yet to create a single chance outside of a corner/free kick. He needs to stand up and start creating things more through the middle.

When we get a new import CB in January. Then Laws also becomes a midfield option. Pennington / Laws DM combination would be an interesting prospect.

Rufer would definitely be more effective alongside a Laws type as well

You forgot to mention attempting to dribble a few times per game and losing the ball.

Lewis made a nice move dribbling out wide in the first game? Is the Jets game clouding our judgement?
And that has some tactical issues that need Uffie’s input too?

putting Uffies tactic aside - assuming he is telling rufer to pass back or to the opposition or dwell on the ball. Im pretty sure he's not but lets imagine. Rof mine the captain has to be a leader, a leader makes the players around him better, he isnt the guy that regularly makes mistakes middle of the park, he isnt flying into tackles when its wet, he's doing what Lacazette did against West Ham, linking players, getting involved. Rufer does none of these and for mine is Uffies one mistake this season. I'd put money on the fact that come mid season we will see a change in midfield, with the new mexican coming Ball/reno will be moved more central and Pennington will be the DM role. Neither Lewis or Rufer will be on the park.

Not blaming Rufer for playing the ball back, it's part of the modern game.  Neither am I excusing the rest of the team for some inept play, most are guilty.  However, midfield is the "engine room" and it simply isn't functioning.  Lewis is a borderline midfielder, Piscopo is hot n cold but Rufer has stood out over a few seasons for all the wrong reasons.  As for the strikers, they have to depend on others for service, especially from midfield.
