Dura was immense. Warner also fantastic.

Tim Brown was Given Man of the Match by the Australian Commentators for the Alex Tobin Award . Its interesting I think he has more respect over in Australia than he does in his home town.

The bus driver - Durante.

They always tend to give goalscorers the man of the match

You think just because a few usernames on the internet call him out that everyone else thinks the same? Rubbish.

Gave it to Durante, but whole team deserved it

Warner for mine, Dura did his job well but I thought he and his fellow defenders didn't help Warner as much as they could have early on....

Queenslander 3x a year.

No I do not think that. But I do think that overall Tim has more respect in Australia than in New Zealand. Tim is probably one of the Phoenix players that gets bagged the most out of any of the Phoenix players on this forum, and its not just by a few ignorant usernames on the internet. Don't get me wrong I believe there are lots of Tim Brown fans in New Zealand, but nearly every week you read about Tim Brown going missing in action, or how he is one of Ricki's favourites.

You don't need a degree in logic to join this forum.  (In fact, having such qualifications tends to diminish one's enjoyment of the banter.)

I personally think Timmy is no where near the player he used to be, but he never seems to get found out, because he never really does anything.

Watching the game, every time he got the ball, I would pick he would pass it off straight away, and if you get the chance, have a watch again and you'll see- he just gets the ball and gets rid of it.
This can be great in certain situations, but to me it seems like he often has enough time and space to carry the ball, but instead gets rid of it early, and often to me doesnt seem to look around at all his options.

Maybe because this is what he is told to do? I reckon a lot of what many perceive as Brown's anonymity in midfield is due to Ricki's set up, ie, our main (some would say only) mode of attack is to clear the ball out to the wings and rely on the cross. Browny's job - I would say his main job - is to arrive in the penalty area and get on the end of these, something he has done very sucessfully over several seasons.

A lot of his DM duties are of the dull holding-role and marking-space kind of thing that seems to drive many people into a frenzy of indignation (even more so when out of nowhere he scythes down someone and collects his traditional yellow card). Again though, I think this is exactly how Ricki wants him to play.

im not so sure - I doubt ricki tells him to not take his time on the ball, or to never turn on the ball or look up.
Okay thats a slight exaggeration, but in this past game, brown seemed to pass the ball as soon as he got it. First touch he would just pass it, dont think he even took a touch on most occassions. The only time he ever seems to take a few touches, is when he is in the box, and tries to take too many

Are you serious? That's most basic midfielder's job. Apart from classy attacking midfield types - which we all know Brown is not - midfielders are mainly a link between the defense and attacking players. This means they are usually asked to receive the ball and move it on again quickly. The longer the midfield hold it the more time the other team has to organise themselves to cut out the attack. To be absolutely honest with you, the last thing I want is for Tim Brown to hold on to the ball for longer.

so even when he could turn and move into space and pass it forwards positively. you would prefer for him to continue just kicking it on first touch to whichever way he faces, and sometimes have it make it towards our own guys in space

No I was replying to what you originally said which didn't include anything about him passing it first time. Even so,quite often when a midfielder 'carries the ball into space' all the gaps will close up and his options shut down. Unless he's the type of player who can create something by drawing players or waiting for a runner. He's simply not that type of player. I think that's what Sanchez has been brought in for.

You said Brown is no where near the player he use to be be. What did he use to be? For me he has always been a standard box to box midfielder who will get on the end of chances and finish them. Nothing more, nothing less (okay sometimes less when he's gone missing).

Don't get me wrong, I have been hugely critical of Brown in the past when he has played a bit sh*t but I don't think we can expect more from players than they have in their skill set.

there's often a place for a grafting ball-winner. watch closely and you will see brown constantly closing down the ball and if not space. i'm not a big fan, but i thought he was outstanding in brisbane

Voted for Manny, he made a couple of great goal line blocks and figured he needed a bit of recognition.

LOL. Whether you support Brown or not, I think that is the one thing everyone can agree on!
