Topic. Dodd for me looked solid at the back and capped it off with a nice glancing header.wellyphoenixfan2008-10-19 19:56:17

McKain, made a couple of great interceptions and runs. His run lead to the Smeltz chance which resulted in Dodd's goal. Never really did anything wrong.

Siggy would be 2nd for me and Dodd 3rd.

McKain was second for me brought great defence to the midfield and has good distribution.

Tough call to make, went with Dodd over Sigmund but could easily have been other way round.

A vote for Dodd is a vote for McKain and hopefully we will never see Dodd grace the centre midfield again.

McKain had a top game but those couple of loose passes swayed MOM to a choice between Dodd and Sigmund, who hardly put a foot wrong all day.

Here I am mate! Yeh voted for Dodd (couldn't disagree with my ratings!), But so good to see the whole team being on the same wavelength, working to a plan, showing the same commitment.

The refs would rate highly too

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

McKain in a tight one, with Dodd and Siggy pushing hard.

Dodd for me, had their attackers pretty much under control with durante, blocked a couple of shots and then scores an excellent goal. Well done Dodd, you deserve the award and the pludits.

Dodd - very solid. Nice goal.

Others worth a special mention.
Brown - theres someting about the WAY he plays that creates belief.
McKain - could have been MoM had he not given away a few loose balls early on.
Siggy - again has very positive approach
Paston - we've got the two best keepers ...
Could go on and on.

I know, I know, its serious!

Pretty much what I thought Brown is a good vice-captain he inspires the other players just like he did as captain of the All Whites vs Wales.

Gave to Dodd, but McKain was also deserving.

And fans! I haven't had this confirmed but in that game it was his ball in for Smeltz's second goal? I hope we see a few of those combinations from him this season.

Sigmund for me, Central Coast normally beat us because they're so good at exploiting our weak right defender, Sigmund really stepped up and had a number of good tackles where he ran them off the ball and they rarely got around him.  Plugging that hole was massive towards securing our win.

Plus a CLEAN SHEET!  Not terribly often we see them and something I always love to see, solid defense meant that Paston didn't have to do a whole lot of work, but what he did do was play position really well and really dominate his goalbox.  With Siggy hassling/dispossessing their crossers and Paston cleaning up pretty much everything that got into the box all CCM could do was take long shots at us.

Don't think that Paston was that impressive - flapped at a couple of crosses (in fact completely missed one, that could have been very bad), but did OK in general. Not that he had a helluva lot to do.el grapadura2008-10-20 09:37:30

Dodd

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

has to be Dodd, solid at the back, and made a great move to get away from his defender to pop the goal......hopefully that will; keep McKain in the mid cos he looked really good there.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Dodd..had an awesome game...
As a matter of fact, the entire back line was solid..nice to see a clean sheet ! Paston deserved it !

Hard to choose one guy when they all played well especially the defense. Looked rock solid all day. Really liked the way Brown and McCain bossed the midfield....kept Mariners to long range shooting. Siggy shut down his corner of the park really well but Dodd was outstanding.

thought Mckain was awesome, ran his ass off, always there trying to get the ball of CCM (penalised a few times for this) he seems hugely aware when he is playing and always finds the best pass available

Wow Dodd's running away with this, I did not vote for him despite his winning of the game.

I went for Siggy, solid as ever, played brilliantly.  Has been excellent since bhis step up from the NZFC

Must give mention to McKain though, much better there than Johnson

McKain for me.

Back four is looking great and some serious competition for the goalkeeping jersey is always good.

McKain and Brown show huge potential as a midfield pair.

Smeltz is still looking strong and Cov's is doing a good job helping out up from.

The wide position are still a worry, Gao didn't seem to want to defend cause he was to busy crying after gettting fouled. Kwas was ok but I though Bertos looked good when he came on.

Still it was probably our most consistent 90 mins of the season. ALL GOOD

+1 for everything.

I think Bertos should get a start next week in the place of Kwasnik.

Gao is a bit of a worry still.....he's got loads of talent. But now all the opposition know that you just smash him early and he drifts out of the game....bit like Felipe last year.

I thought Gao defended well. Kwasnik's next to useless.

No, looks like Ricky wants to give him an extended run.

But if I was the geffer Moss would be my starter.

Maybe Paston is better at organising the defence?
