Maybe Paston is better at organising the defence?
Iv'e been saying this ever since his first game this season.
What? He's greatly benefiting from actually having a right back who can tackle, and from having Dodd play in his natural position. In the three games he's played he hasn't had as many shots to save as Moss had in any one game this season. Yet his decision-making is still very questionable - he obviously likes to get off his line, which looks assuring when he gets the balls, but he misjudges at least 2-3 long balls/crosses into the box a game. Last year against Adelaide cost us 3 goals, this season in 3 games it's cost us only 1 goal.

Last year against Adelaide he had Old and O'Dor in front of him and no communication or experience together between the three of them.

but also the fact he has Inspector Gadget arms means that many crosses and balls simply don't become an issue, and the attack is diffused early.
but yes, the right back thing

Sorry wise one, but I have to disagree...firstly, Moss had to contedn with Old, O'Dor, and Plodder making schoolboy errors in front of him the whole season and never looked as bad as Paston did in that game.
Secondly, 3 goals against Adelaide last season were directly Paston's fault, mainly because he was rushing off his line way too quickly without assessing the situation properly, and making it easy for the opposition to score without letting the defenders try to help him out a bit more. I have to say that was easily one of the worst goalkeeping displays I've evr seen in professional football.
He's been OK in 3 games this year, without being anywhere near as good as some here are suggesting.

Yep, like the one against CCM early in the second half, when he got nowhere near it and left the net wide open.
Luckily there was no CCM player on the far post, otherwise there would have been a thread on this website now saying Sack Paston.

I've seen 3 or 4 worse this season alone from some much vaunted A League goalkeepers. It's fair to say Paston had a shocker that day but then so did Moss against Melbourne in round 3. We're better off than some other clubs whose keepers seem to vying with each other to produce the best Minties Moment.

Agree that Moss had a shocker against Melbourne earlier this season.

Isn't it great to have two good keepers. They are so different in their skills and this makes comparisons difficult.
In my view Paston is much better at commanding his area for crosses and occasionally he will flap at one but the defence know that he is coming and he is generally very assured under crosses. Moss is very ordinary in this area.
Moss is a shot stopper second to none and light years ahead of Paston in this area, Paston does not possess the reactions or agility of Moss and never will.
I have been critical of Moss's distrubution and thought Paston is better but really bugger all in it really as Paston was hitting a few touch finders on the weekend when we really needed to hang on to the ball.
As for organising the defences I personally do not think either of them are great organisers of what's in front of them and both of them allow the back four to drop too deep in my view. The improvement in the back four is more a case of the personnel being right and lifting their game.

Again, what? You mean it's Moss' fault that we had a turnstile at our right defensive flank, which pretty much meant that opposition could waltz into the box from that side at will, drag at least one of our central defenders into a wide position, thereby having the space to pull off shots from inside the box on regular occasions? Jesus, man, do you understand football at all?
Paston benefited from Sydney's hoofball which meant that Muscat wasn't really too exposed, and from having Siggy at RB the last two games, who's by far the best defender out of all options we have in that position, which consequently means that penetrating our box is much more difficult, which consequently means that our central defenders are in a better position to prevent highly dangerous shots on target. Simple as that. Paston's benefiting from all this, he's not causing it.
