Mark Paston made a couple of great stops but Nick Ward was GREAT...

He was the catalyst go to guy.

I actually quite enjoyed it when he came on as he was inside and out, receiving the ball in the center of the park, and also making those inwards passes to central players which we dont usually get from our wingers

Whaddya mean...Leo very often collects the ball well in opposition half, turns tracks back inside our half before laying the ball off to eith Siggy or Dura on the edge of our penalty Area

Is that his fault, or a lack of forward options?  Or movement off the ball is horrible.

combination of both, there was some movement up top, but Leo had his head down and back turned so he wouldn't have seen it anyway!

You really think Lia was that bad? Did you not see his very good cross field passes that were probably more accurate than any other Phoenix player yesterday, I can only recall one cross field pass to Lochhead that was a bit soft and resulted in a 50/50 and other than a couple of poor decisions down the left hand side in the first half and a cross to close to Matt Ryan he was generally pretty tidy in possession. Lots of one touch passing to try and speed up the play and get the ball forward as well as creating one of our best scoring chances in the second half with a great flat cross across the 6 yard box that Greenie just couldn't get a touch on.

Yeah I thought that was one of Lia's better games too. He even looked alright at LB

one cross does not make a good game, he cancels out his good work with the huge amount of lost ball.

From being a position where we had no one but Lochy there are plenty of good young LBs in NZ now.  Hogg, Rowe, Prattley, Milne.

We shouldn't need a makeshift left back (or a rubbish imported one).

I think Lia's a better LB than DM.

I'm no Nick Ward fan, usually, (although I was a bit of a fan when he first started with us) but he was simply OUTSTANDING on Sunday. Easily our best on the park, better even than Super-Siggy. His best ever performance in a stripey. Bravo Nick. bwtcf2012-03-26 16:56:11

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Seems the entire Ward clan, Aunties, uncles, brothers sister mother father cousin, neighbours cat, have all been on here.

While he played well, I struggle to see how some one who played what? 20 minutes, did not score any goals, let alone winning goal, no assists, did not clear the ball off the line, had no shots on goal, made no stunning bursts where he opened up the defence and generally did what is expected of a midfielder, ie receive the ball and pass quickly and accurately to another player.

Agreed, he played well, but as for MOTM, come on!!!

He also lazily gace the ball away on a couple of occassions and made no effort to retrieve it.

Ward would have had an assist and/or a goal if Pav could shoot and/or pass

So we vote for a player on what would have happened if some other player had of done something then the original player would have had the oppotunity to create a goal or score, or alternatively just f**k it up anyway

Exactly!

But yeah, saying that Ward didn't score or get an assist implies he didn't create anything when in actual fact he did. I know he only played a 20min or so as a sub but in that time he was by far the best Nix player on the pitch, and no one who played longer had a greater impact on our play. As someone else said, it is as much a reflection of how mediocre the rest of our lads were to say that a sub who didn't score or assist was our MOTM. That doesn't mean we should vote for someone else just because our best player was a sub though
