How do you mean hacked? What has happened? I used to stick my head in there but I have to be honest, there was way more stoopid than here so don't any more.
Have you asked this question on every teams forum or just us?
When you look at the nature of the place (a football forum) your most likely reason is someone just being a punk to mess with things. All it will do is piss people off because its not like there are trade secrets there. I would look to someone disgruntled from within, may be an unpopular poster that has IT skills and thought 'Fuck you lot'

Passwords .. links to home email accounts ... etc ... I read about these things and am wondering aloud what it all means ....
As I said ... I would appreciate anybodies knowledge and advice about what if anything a member of a forum should do knowing the site has been hacked ...

Wow. That's.... I want to say amazing but its not the right word. Unbelievable. The only way you bring down a forum is weak passwords to get at the back end or wicked IT madhackz skillz. I'm guessing the mod who posted that has no intention of resurrecting it?
I would say if your password to your forum handle is anything like you use for any accounts like email or anything else, change those passwords immediately. I would think as well if you use this forum handle anywhere else like on the RBB of the Sydneys, then change that password too. If they are punks, you would think nothing would happen. If there are menaces, they will try handles and passwords on other similar forums.

Why would anyone want to smash your forum? It could just as easily been a forum on breastfeeding for all the relevance of it. Its just a football forum. Someone must have had a reason to (or perhaps was bored) but again, why pick that forum?

The beauty of MB's is for discussion and even perhaps some rivalry from opposing fans but good grief, to hack an MB and delete stuff is about as low as it gets in the MB world.

Was a script kiddie from Myanmar (Burma) of all places.
No data deleted - is actually pretty easy to do, lots of vunerabilities on old vbulletin software.
