Hey knowledagble yellow feverites,

Does anyone know if the game in Napier is likely to be repeated in 2014?

I am just busy booking stuff for the Napier U19's Tournament and i was keen to know if it was going to be on again and likely to be a sunday afternoon if it was.

sorry wasn't sure where exactly to post this.

Cheers

Please don't take this as gospel in any way, but in the post-Napier discussions I had with the club it certainly sounded like they were keen to do it again.

In saying that, we talked about it being every other year.

Factor in that the Nix can't play in Wellington for weeks during January/February because of Cricket World Cup and I'd say taking a game out of Wellington in October/November is less likely than it was this season.

So. Where does that land us? Well, I'd say it's very much up in the air and far from a sure thing.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

yeah but this dosn't really confirm anything

Yeah, I thought it made it sound more unlikely than likely...

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

thanks everyone for the ideas and comments - the nix got back to me on facebook and it's not very likely so will not plan for it (but will hold my breath as it was awesome last year for the lads - esp staying in the same hotel).

But isn't McLean Park hosting cricket world cup games too? I'd guess Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland (not Eden Park - maybe Mt Smart), Hamilton, even New Plymouth, Palmy or Tauranga will get the moved games because there's rectangular grounds in those places that won't be used for cricket. Is it 9 weeks we miss out on at the the stadium? So 4 or 5 games we need to find venues for?

4-5 home games during world cup - that is really crap! effectively a third of the home games, that's going to hurt season ticket sales.

Yup, although I might be wrong about how many it is it is definitely a few. Hopefully they offer a discounted "Wellington home games only" season ticket option too - it's a bit much to expect people to travel 4 or 5 times for games

am i missing something but isn't the Cricket on between Feb and March 2015 - so not clashing with Labour Weekend in Napier?

I do understand if during this period the Nix have to take games away from the Cake Tin then they are less likely to move a game they don't have to - if that's the logic behind this discussion I agree.

Yup but you schedule your away games in Feb/March when you have to be away from home for 9 rounds, not in October when your ground is free.

Nope, that's the argument. I was just saying that it's unlikely they'd have a game in Napier in the middle of the summer when we can't play at the RoF either

This. Every home away from home game will (should) be played during CWC

I bet it won't be though. They will still want to have a game in Auckland, and Eden Park is a CWC venue...

we went to that game (clearly looking at my avatar) but we went in a party bus and so travel wasn't so much of an issue - must say the place was packed and it was a good atmosphere.

Last AWs game we did there we bussed (normal timetable) mid afternoon, then camped at one of the bars in the mall.  Then bussed back to town (extra bus being run for the event).

Good day out.

I bet you the general Auckland public wouldn't do it.

Mt. Smart is a shit heap.
