Greenie is the nz u20 coach and has the World Cup in chilli (think it’s chilli, apologies if it’s wrong) so taking a head coach role of any ALM team would probably mean he would have to step down from that role….. plus he’s under contract for that role until after the World Cup that takes place during the season.
I’m not saying he wants the role or was offered it, just that he’s under contract already

Where's the Spelling Referee when you need him
He/she will have a field day with me

Sure for imports it's about the money. But decent players will have options. And surely they will be looking at coaches style of play over last couple of seasons to see if that suits them also.

I said apparently because that is how it appears to me, but of course I wouldnt know.

I think the whole convincing them to come side of things is overstated, at the end of the day the most important thing by some distance is money, you put up enough money and you will get a quality player (so long as they are willing to relocate in general, of course). A minority of players will take less money for better environments and coaches but I think it is probably quite rare for players to be that romantic.
Is  convincing them to come over stated though, even you said " so long as they are willing to relocate in general, of course"
Has been stated before that this is an issue and pretty sure we have had players and there families who have moved as they didnt want to be here. Sometimes money dosnt do it and not sure where the "enough money" is coming from at the moment.

Perhaps from the wages we aren't paying to Kosta, Geraldes and Wootton anymore?

Don’t be an ass about it mate. Has something happened with you? You used to be quite reasonable and considered.

You're the one claiming Greenacre wanted the job, not me. I'm not claiming any knowledge either way.

You make the assertion, you back it up.

A thousand times This. It has always perplexed me that opinion. I’ve been involved in recruiting professional sportspeople and US college recruiting and you can get players to go almost anywhere if the offer is right ir suits. My son actually played in a town of about 300 people and in the middle of nowhere.

We had one players family get spooked after the Kaikoura earthquake and the rumor that another players wife didn't like the shopping options here (she works for and is politcally aligned to Clive Palmer, with everything that says about her). Two odd players out of the hundreds that we've had doesn't make it a thing.

We've also had plenty of players say they love it here and the city is a reason for them coming.

Also, professional footballers will go where they can play and will get paid, they have short careers and end up in countries and cities far worse than NZ.

At a quiz night, the answer to a question was  Chile 🇨🇱 and as above my team mate scribbled down the hot 🔥 vegetable 🌶

I politely mentioned that was incorrect, as she told me she had actually traveled there.
I new I had written something wrong for the life of me I couldn’t figure it out but yes chilli the fruit is not chile the country. Thank you for letting me see the error of my ways Did you still get a point is the bigger question?

It's 20 years ago, but I think yes. Should add the team mate's parents farmed alpacas near Rotorua, hence her Chilean adventure.

Ahh and yes chilli is a fruit. Look forward to a quiz night when they comes up.

I do not think Auckland FC was able to recruit the likes of May, Sakai or Verstraete just on the strength of Auckland having nice weather and good proximity to beaches.  I assume it involved a bigger budget which still needs skillful use to get a better on-field performance (including a strong reserves bench) and give them some silverware at the end.
The opposite of course can happen. Western United had good on field performances despite well documented financial problems staring the club in the face.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I put this interview and links through a bullshark meter and it score a 6/10.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360854435/why-season-make-or-break-wellington-phoenix-coach-giancarlo-italiano

The verdict: Italiano is sophisticated enough to know that admitting failure disarms criticism. But he's doing it from a position of security, with carefully hedged language, while still claiming the failure made him better. That's not honesty, that's high-level PR disguised as self-awareness. The bullshark is refined, but it's still bullshark.

what would you rather he have said? That he didn't improve at all??

There is obviously some internal stuff that people will never let you know when speaking to the media. For that reason interviews are always a bit BS. But, Chiefy would genuinely believe a lot of these statements - if you didn't actually believe you were improving as a coach then you wouldn't be doing it. You have to have some confidence

A little thought experiment, especially for anyone who's ever felt "Chiefy out" might be the answer: Imagine we have a terrible 25/26 season, and at the end of it Chiefy is actually out. Then in a shock move the club announces Corica as his replacement.

In this hypothetical universe, how do people feel?

Ain't happening.

If Corica leaves Auckland it's because he's going to one of the bigger Aussie clubs, or has scored a gig in Japan/Korea.

Would mean that the purse strings would have been loosened.

So more money for new coaches, new players, new nix management etc.

Maybe not a bad thing?

I don't disagree for a second, that's why I labelled it a thought experiment - it's more that if someone's an ABC (Anyone But Chiefy) then it's interesting to see how serious they are about the "A".

For the record I'm very much "give Chiefy until the end of the season", but still, hypotheticals can be revealing.

Controversial take, but I think Chief has been much better so far this season.

I was incredibly critical and cynical of the style of football last season, it's some of the worst I've seen excluding maybe the Kalezic era.

But I like the positive and attacking intent, it's much more entertaining and enjoyable to watch as a fan.

We had a streak where went 9 games and scored 5 goals last season.

This season so far in 4 games we’ve scored 6 goals. And Piper has shown he can pass and proved me very wrong.

Corica is one of the most annoying people there is. An arrogant, obnoxious, self-absorbed, biased in his own favour sort of guy who somehow has not been punished for these things and has instead been very successful (whether it be despite these things or somehow because of them) and so he has become so entrenched in these qualities and behaviours that only somebody on his side could respect him more than begrudgingly. I'd rather be a loser than win like Corica.

What is Corica like in his actual managerial role... is he behind the players encouraging them etc. Is he the guy who sends a gift to a players wife when they have a kid etc?

I often joked that when I was younger I was a nice guy trapped in an arseholes body.... I'm very liberal, look after people type person, but my humor is very cutting. Meant I came across as a prick to people who didn't know me.

i think the days of the angry aggressive confrontational coach expired over a decade ago. yet in the a-league they still linger. corica, veart, etc.

brett angel, scott hales and the group of angry canadians at wests being some that exist or recently existed on our shores as well.

i think that soon, no club will want an idiot spitting and swearing on the sideline. i'm glad we're not like that.

that will never happen, unless Corica is photographed flying a drone somewhere he shouldn't, and needs to pay his dues lower down showing that he is a reformed character.

my hunch is that the carrot to induce Bev Priestman was that she would be next in line and that if she was patient and did a good job with the womens for a year or two, there would be an opportunity to break through the glass ceiling...

I'll put my hand up and say I was in the Chiefy Out camp and found his re-appointment mind-boggling.

I am however, happy with the style of football we're playing this season. So much easier on the eye than last season's dross. Yes the high line will cost us some goals but will get better over time with a more settled back line.

He's done well in recruiting Armiento and Eze in particular.

I haven't been able to bring myself to comment on the forums about the derby, that loss really stings, but was probably my favourite derby to date and I'm glad we took the game to them. We desperately need to be more clinical especially from set-pieces.

Chiefy's earned a bit more time in my books despite the gutting Auckland loss.

Do love conspiracy theories but in reality her wife heading the Phoenix Academy and having some years to run on her contract. Probsbly had more to do with her taking the Wahnix job than anything else. people post about.

I think I'd take Rudan🤢 back over Corica.
I've actually found myself having to contend with this intrusive thought before and came to the conclusion that I'd take back Rudan for the bants over Bimbi.

Funny how the baddy ranking works out when you do a side by side comparison.
