slower ball movement has been mentioned as a possible reason for in match injuries in analysis performed on liverpool this season
Slow ball passes have been a bane on the Nix for quite some time. I don't understand why they don't step things up more often. They're obviously capable of fizzing it about. So why keep playing safe-ball? Aren't they physically up for putting the foot on the throat?

Out of curiosity what’s the causal chain there? Slower movement = more tackles?
yes, pretty much. in theory, moving the ball slower allows the opposition more opportunity to initiate contact / close down quicker. but it's always paired with other 'theories', like the closer players are to each other the quicker the ball travels between players, however the less distance the opposition need to travel to initiate contact.
like jessie referred to, good ball speed is generally desired to unpick defences. whether from back to front, or side to side or both.
for those too lazy to listen, Riccardo Ball says he was told that Nix had to pay out two staff members to the tune of a year's salary to stop them taking a personal grievance against Chiefy Banzai!...AIEEE!!!
Yep thoroughly sick of everyone wanting to have a crack. Yep get things arnt going as we all want but there sure as hell seems to be a concerted campaign by some in the media against not only Chief but the Phoenix. One News did a mini hatchet job on last nites news. Then you have some of the utter crap coming from some of our own fans makes you wonder why some of them even bother claiming to be fans.
If that's the case... he should of been let go even more so.
The fact that someone raises or threatens to raise a grievance isn’t by itself proof that their complaint is justified.
If (and we only have rumours to go on) multiple staff felt the need to go down that path then there was obviously unhappiness in the camp; but unless the club had already investigated all the facts, then like everyone else in this country Chiefy is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Edit: If people were paid out (again, rumour) then sure, it makes it more plausible the club was heading off what it could see was going to be a train-wreck. But these processes take time to resolve and in a small organisation they impact other staff, so perhaps they just wanted to avoid the distraction regardless of the outcome.
consider for a minute those who have coached, and therefore who are responsible for setting the employment environment, throughout the history of the a-league.
you wouldn't consider many to be the modern day middle management type.
then tell me there haven't been numerous and ongoing PGs against many of those coaches and many many more where staff have been been treated terribly and not taken legal action.
it's bad, and it needs to change, but sport has not grown up yet.

For all I think Dome gets a lot of stick for things that aren’t directly under his control, this is one area that falls squarely on the GM’s shoulders: not just to have all the right HR structures and processes in place, but to lead an organisational culture where even the most junior staff feel confident they’ll be treated fairly.
Is the culture inside the club like that? I have absolutely no idea, nor do most of the people posting here or on social media.
But it’s in their self-interest to get there, especially with the Academy. If there was ever a complaint from one of the players (or more likely their parents), then the club would have to be seen to be 100% transparent or nobody would ever send their child there. As I’m sure the club hierarchy are well aware.
Reporting news of two personal grievances against the coach is not a hatchet job. I doubt Ball would have stated that unless his sources were impeccable. It’s important information about the culture of the club, rather than relying on people watching training who say everything looks rosy in paradise.
It also puts some comments here in perspective who have been talking about OE’s, partners, and various other reasons why staff left last year.
I have said before most people use these types of things as excuses when leaving a work place which they don’t want to be in. In this case it appears things were truely toxic if you are paying two people full salaries for a year for doing nothing but stopping grievances.
One random having a go is always possible.
Two illustrates there is probably something wrong with the culture of the club.
Paying people off however isn’t going to make the problem go away.
The club needs a total overhaul which includes Dome, Gill and Chief.

Anyone else just getting sick of this situation?

The big turnaround in staff is an issue, it’s a clear sign that something is off. Maybe they are all bad at their jobs, but then why are they hired in the first place? And everything fits together with on field performance. So it must be an ongoing culturally problem as the change of staff did nit help to turn the ship around. Fans allowed to be critical, but for the friends with the rose tinted glasses you need to careful not become part of cult.
for those too lazy to listen, Riccardo Ball says he was told that Nix had to pay out two staff members to the tune of a year's salary to stop them taking a personal grievance against Chiefy Banzai!...AIEEE!!!
But some context Ricardo Ball is a rabid AFC fan, who delights in derby wins over the Nix, and in any chance to to take a shot at the Phoenix.
In the early days of AFC late 2024 I had posted something on The Port's FB page, and then he contacted me through Messenger taking sheer joy in some Nix failing that I can't remember.

Isn't he also the face of/has some skin in the game with that Betcha lot that always seem to be on the Nix back at any given opportunity?

Another of those who used to support the Phoenix who seems to have forgotten or choose to ignore if it wasnt for the Phoenix its doubtful there would have been an AFC
If true, combined with the big turn-over that's signaling a significant cultural problem OR simply serious disagreements amongst coaching staff that resulted in personal friction and people looking for an excuse and payouts to leave.
But that's an "if true". I've held some pretty senior management positions where I've known what was actually going on and been seriously impressed at the imagination and mischief and seeming certainty of people coming up with ideas about what they thought was going on. None of it accurate.
Who'd trust an AFC supporters gossip about the 'Nix?

Read again AP yet again you claim i said something when i clearly didnt the hatchet job mentioned was the BS that was on the news. As bad as we have been at times in the past i cant recall the personal attacks on the club and staff as being as bad as they are at the moment. Some of the stuff is just ridiculous people calling for boycotts of games is just crazy. So remind me again why Ricardos comments carry more weight because someone told him than someone posting on here something they have also been told. Sorry both come from sources that cant be verified so dont get why just because he is on the radio or does a Podcast his are more believable than any others.

Fair point, but imagine for a moment you were an anthropologist studying supporter groups like the Fever.
We turn up at large gatherings where we all dress the same to show we belong, we engage in ritualistic chanting, and while we shun opposing groups we’re always on the lookout for new members to join our own.
Again no matter what you say just because he is in the media dosnt mean what he says he has been told from his sources carries any more weight than someone who says they have also been told something. You just choose to believe him more than what others say they have been told.

Iffy - thinks this run of 4 away games in 5 will be too much, and Chiefy will be gone after those games. Spoonley - reserving judgement until Oluwayemi, Retre, Payne and Mileusnić are all available as starters.
Note I think this podcast was before the 5-1 loss at the VUC.
Exactly, this is the thing I don't get, if we weren't forced to take games up to Auckland every season those jafas wouldn't have been given a third chance. They're ungrateful and have no idea how hard everything has been for us. While everything gets handed to them on a silver platter.ballane

Yet your perfectly happy beleiving whatever someone in the media says. Again dont see why what he has been told carries more weight than what others have been told. Also when i say others im not talking anout me as you seem so keen to imply. The contradictions to Balls claims were made by a few people yet again your more than happy to beleive him because he is media and must have better sources. Also your continued pile on of blaming Dome for everything is more than a little tiresome. So you go keep on listening to those impeccable media stories they always tell the truth. Yeah Right
Which makes me think I should be taking anything he says with a grain of salt. He's not a reknowned jourrno, he's literally a shock jock from radio who's moved into TV as a sports "expert". He may have some access to the AFC team/squad, but I dowubt he has any acces to the Nix - anyone running to him is clearly trying to stir the pot and should be treated as hostile and with caution/doubt.
