Really enjoyable. You can hear he certainly has a vision, and a drive to achieve it which is great, and definitely needed.

Great listen, sounds like Gareth knows exactly where he wants the club to be in 5 years time, and I think that vision matches what many of the fans want the club to be like. Good to know he's a Jack Johnson fan as well!

What a bloke. Interesting for him to mention the state of the financial records for the nix, makes me wonder what Terry was upto.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

What you actually  suspect there was something shonkey going on ?surely not!!

Good interview very balanced ,didn't try to pretend he knows a lot about football but put lots of emphasis on the importance of basic  backroom structure for the club!

All in all conservative but very positive.

backroom structure, so they have plans to actually hire a staff before the end of this season? some extra coaching staff would be mint.

YAY Gareth answered my question.

Hmmm. Gareth is talking about this big board meeting where his strategy is going to be approved... and then Greenham resigns.

OK, that was very good.

However, just to bring a little bit of balance to this tsunami of gushing praise I feel obliged to say this...

Jack Johnson? Noooooo, Gareth.

Please, please, please can we have some more of this: The Skatalites - Phoenix City

Just play it Gareth, and they will come. Oh yes.

I've listened to this podcast twice now (have only done that once before).

It's very uplifting. I like this Gareth chap (do you hear this AucklandPhoenix? I have just unfriended you on my bebotwatter page).

Gareth preached for patience which is something this forum is not exactly known for. They have a plan and I think he was really saying that Rome was not built in a day.

I felt hugely reassured after listening to the podcast. I think the Nix are in good hands. Things might not change radically but the overall direction they have set for the club looks very good. I love the emphasis on developing NZ talent and feed it into the Nix. Obviously this is not going to happen overnight but it essential for both the club and NZ that there is a local pathway for younger players. There are 85,000 under 19 years old, playing football. Nuture them properly and the talent will come out.

There are plenty of examples around the globe of clubs succesfully developing youngsters. Barcelona is one. Another is Montpellier, my old home town. They have 14 youngsters in their squad all of whom have come through the clubs academy. They have one of the smallest budgets in the League 1 yet they are currently top of the Table. Clear of glamour clubs like Paris St Germaine....who spent in excess of 80 million euros on players preseason.

Morgan is right. Buying "stars" is a pig in a poke. Look at Kewell and Emerton...hardly taking the A-League by storm. You can succesfully recruit  if you spend a lot of time and money and research the players properly. It is no accident that our two best overseas recruits ,Ifill and Greenie came from an extensive search from Rickie and TonyP who actually went to Europe and did the business there.

It is a shame that the Podcast did not go on for another 30 mins. It would have been interesting to hear how what ideas Welnix have for promotions, advertising and increased sponsorships and other revenue streams. I wish Gareth all the luck in the world when he heads north to argue his case for their youth development program.

I liked his observation that 5k fever make more noise the 25k eggball fans and that football has the ability to ignite the country (in reference to the 14 Nov 2009 game and the A-League play-offs). And that the Bahrain game had more atmosphere than any of the 4 RWC finals he's been to.

Great work to all involved... even HN

Every time I hear them speak I gain confidence. They wanna build something, not simply try and buy it (and most likely fail).

Would love to have him back.

Can you read then that he had personal/financial/vision differences with Terry? Or have the family issues resolved themselves? Either way, PLEASE COME BACK TONY, WE MISS YOU!

At the risk of opening up the knitting circle debacle, I mean debate, the comments from Vicelich on the home page link acknowledges the Nix as one route for development (putting aside the complete pipe dream of having a pro league in NZ... pop 4 mill).

Maybe he needs to be talking to our Gareth.

Between this podcast and the news story discussing Tony P and progress towards coaching staff it all seems pretty positive atm . That and we seem to be over the injury crisis  (touch wood)
