Like it or not i have a feeling that Jeremy Brockie will be signed in the next week or so. i have no proof either way but i think it will happen (just being realistic...)

I don't think so...He is a forward and if the two south americans are brought in are srtikers...but there is als another what 10 or so spaces on the squad left..maybe he will be signed on and be a bench player.

Ideally an import should be a first team regular.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
yeah, no point having an import if they arent going to be in the matchday squad regularly (pref. starting XI quality)

you said it Nestling, IF the south americans are strikers, personally im not holding my breath. i would like it to be true, but maybe Rikki will be using the Nix to help the AW's by training Brockie & Costa (or other strikers up)

all should be revealed soon...hopefully...

Back to Banks, I've always liked him, he's got that unpredictability that NZ strikers seem to lack. Good touch too. He was at Central Utd a few years back when I was there and had an outstanding season, scored some incredible goals, best player in the country that season.
He's an unusual sort of guy, a really unique sort of person, and I wonder if this has scared off some people who may like conformity.

Banks isn't up to it physically. Been proven twice. His level is the NZFC and he will thrive there.
The A League defences are too quick and too physical for him.

Flag Brockie, i think we need to move past him. Hes average and all hell do is take up a spot on the bench.

Jarrod Smith...

anybody?? thoughts??

strong, fast, prolific scorer last year, young, agile...
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Prolific scorer in US College football... not sure that's the best advertisement.

Ross McKenzie was the same the previous season and barely made a ripple in the NZFC (although i hope he gets another chance this summer).

but like the discussion about Totori... once you dominate where you're playing, what more can you do until you're picked for somewhere higher??

Smith's an All White under Rikki & will likely continue to be... makes sense to have him in the fold.
I think he'd look out of place in the NZFC...?? my thoughts anyway...

we need someone who can man up against Australian defences.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
yeah Jarrod Smith sounds like a good solid choice. Can we pick him up now tho?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The last thing I heard about Jarrod was that he had turned down a non guaranteed contract in MLS and was looking for something in Europe... could be wrong though.

Suley if Ricki acts quick enough, him and terry's bankroll can cook up somthing interesting for him to ponder...
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
But surely he will have to smell the cooking. Surely.

Sigmund maybe worth a look but no way on the other 2. Ive seen Vodanovich get burnt in the NZFC many times and Mulrooney is an average NZFC player you have to rememeber how big the gap is between the A-League and the NZFC and there are some players that can make the step up but no way can these 2 can.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
the only other nzfc player that could make it in the A League i believe is Kieran Jordan. Sign him neday over brockie please. Hes terrible. Get some defenders thats what we need! I say get a giant russian and chuk him in the heart of our defence.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Kieran Jordan aye? i hear hes quite talented. would you rate him as one of your favourites pavlos?

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
No doubt. Hess class. He played against olympic once and scored a great hatrick. Altho was dissapointing in korea in club champs but really to be fear didnt have quality players around him.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I think Keryn is a great player with a good pedigree and not yet too old but he would be considered an import (South African) - not sure if Ricki would risk given he's had injury problems this season.

If hes considered as an import id flag him as we could get better, but if hes in the local category i agree with pavlos. That hat trick was da sh*t.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

oh no way then, not worth that kind of spot. I think 2 brazilians is enough. I wouldnt mind a spanish striker or maby an english defender. Even if hes on loan from like a premiership or championship club.

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah that'd be good - the defender I mean - I think we can expect at least 1 Chilean. I see Alan Stubbs is being linked with Adelaide.

I think the Toffees will give him another Contract, He has been doing good there.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
i want a pshyco bald english nutter as a centre back, break some legs.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
ye hes an awesome defender. one of the best i believe in terms of attitude and commitment
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
He didn't help Sunderland much tho...

What about the likes of Cocu to Sydney i hear? Why not aim at Bergkamp coming for a few games
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Whoa Bergkamp.... lets grab Cantona and Zidane while we're at it. maybe wynton rufer will come for a couple of games.

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Because he's terrified of flying and flying in to and out of Wellington every 2nd week just ain't going to happen...

ye tru. Fk douglas u thnk ur the man ay. Dwight Yorke came to the A league why wouldnt Bergkamp. But ye i jst rememberd thanks to  above comment that he doesnt travel.Wyntor Rufer= no way. He will no way be able to keep up and that.  And If Cocu has been linked to Sydney again why would u think bergkamp is such a big suprise. Know your football before u open ur mouth. By the way "nice pic" a shark thats umm awesome.

I went off Liam Mulrooney when I sat behind him at a University lecture and he spent the entire hour and a half practicing his autograph on scrap paper. No kidding, he really did. If I'd've thought he'd go onto better things I'd've raided the wastepaper and flogged them off on eBay one by one in future years. But, of course, he wouldn't, so I didn't.
And I think he's one of the better NZFC midfielders, but some way off A-League calibre. He's one of those players that NZ seems to churn out ad infinitum. Fit, workmanlike but no spark.

 or maby an english defender.

English defenders? Darren Bazely, Matt Carbon, Dean Gordon, al to recent in the memory to really want to go down that path again.
Incidently, Carbon sums up the whole Knights fiasco to me. No-one clued up enough to do their homework and find that he couldn't get a contract in the UK due to his injury problems, signed him on a contract, paid his wages for god knows how long (with a signing on fee, I'll be bound), got a  couple of training sessions and then he broke down. And went home. With money in the bank. No wonder they failed. Friggin' clueless.

Barron is the one midfielder that has some spark and stood out to me this season, but his name is conspicuously absent and we seem to have an awful lot of central midfielders already.

Siggy's flagged the idea and gone to Melbourne.

The rumour that was going around a couple of weeks back but has since died is getting James in on loan from Fulham - esp as they're not going to get relegated now - chances of him breaking into the first team maybe slim.

Dennis Berkamp!!!! Po po po, as much as i would love an ex-gunner to play for the Pheonix i dont thik our prestige is big enough to attract the likes of him.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
He'd play in the same spot as our Croatian-Brazilian though wouldn't he PROAK.

(Incidentally, Slater or Foster ? - Neither.  Both Twats of the highest order).

Ha ha  - c'mon I had to put the boot in to the Ginger t**ser! James could be a good option in the hole, up front or on either flank.

Incorrect, Matt Carbon was being chased by several League Two sides but he wanted too much $$

He still almost quit the game 12 months earlier due to injury, and Dani spent more time in the training room than on the field for the last 5 years.

Buari the same.  They were gambles that didn't pay off and screwed the club.
