Why can they not score??

I have never seen the nix train so do not know what they are practicing, but there has to be shooting practice in it somewhere.

Lia, Brown, Bertos, Ferrante, Hearfield, Daniel, None of them can score goals regularly. It is seriously hurting us. How many golden chances have the missed over the past three seasons??

Their strike rates, goals per shots must be horrendous!!

If Lia, Brown, Hearfield and Daniel are playing regularly I think they are all capable of scoring well in comparison to their specific position. Ferrante and Bertos simply aren't all that great at shooting, but Ferrante is probably going to be little more than a bit-part player this year and SuperLeo is excused because he creates so much.

Brown scored some crucial goals for us last year, sure only 3 but they were all good, Daniel hasn'tscored many but then like lia last season he got very little game time. Ferrante is sh*te!

Queenslander 3x a year.

Bertos has a very low conversion rate from the edge of the box. Errmm...none actually that I can think of. It is something the 'Nix have to think about. Maybe Ifill can help him with a few pointers?

Brown had a shocker, but got into 3 good positions, and has previous form here. Ferrante has a weak shot, and doesn't get into the box with presence (though this may be instructions).

Daniel I've forgotten about, season one being so long ago, and would be delighted if started scoring. Hearfield like Bertos has chipped in here and there.

Lia- um hate to say it, but outside the box he's looking like Ferrante so far with his shooting. I don't know if shooting long is our best option anyway, especially if the box is crowded. But early days on this as he's only just come back. Would love him to become a midfiled bomber, just not sure that he is.

Will have to wait on Diego and Caceres. Diego looks down on confidence, and we'll have to see what can turn that around.

We don't really have any players that are known for their shots from distance. But hopefully Ifill and Greenacre will get a swag, and if these guys chip in we'll start winning games comfortably.

What the heck? You can't remember Bertos scoring from the edge of the box? Well, maybe not, but I distinctly remember him scoring one from way outside the box recently! I'm not sure why you pick Ifill to give him pointers - I don't remember him scoring from outside the box...

Just thinking that against Sydney - Ferrante put in a very good shot that was saved didn't he?

Look, the best players in the world can have many many attempts of shooting outside the box without getting any. I personally agree that we shouldn't shoot from distance as much... though it's great when it goes in, I don't know if it's our highest percentage option. Tricky... Tough for the players of course because when they get within a million miles of the goal half the crowd starts shouting "shoooot" "shoooot"

At least our midfielders are trying to get shots in. Lots of season 1 and particularly season 2 was spent buggering about with the ball at the edge of the box waiting for their defence to regroup and take the ball off us/clear the ball.

Since he has come to the Nix I've seen Lia  pull off some thunderous shots, in season 1 he was often played to defensively or wide to get many decent opportunities, but got a great goal from the edge of the box against Melbourne. Oska2009-09-06 21:45:08

Decent accuracy but a fairly easy height for Bolton to reach and not much power. The one time I can remember himkeeping a shot low it went in against Newcastle, but he usually gets far too muchof his shot underneath the ball.

Pretty sure i saw a stat during the Adelaide game that said Bertos has played 56 A-League games and scored 1 goal...

You'd be hoping for better...

3 for us (Sydney, Newcastle last year, Perth this year).

1 for Perth.

Daniel scored a few in season 1.

He has a useful header too, which is why Bertos should keep taking corners.

Brown is the only one who seems to get forward into decent scoring positions regularly, although his execution has let him down so far.

As stated on another thread, I think the midfield are slow to get forward a lot of the time and are too cautious. Perhaps though, they've been instructed not to stray too far forward?

Bertos needs to score more often, but I think that's been well documented already.

It's probably because we play a very defensive midfield formation.

Mostly theres only two midfielders, and they are on the flanks, and Bertos for one, has a poor shot.
There is rarely central midfielders coming through, we don't have any, they are defensive.
