Oh happy days!!!!!

Sunday-Star times announce the future of the Phoenix confirmed. NZF and FFA have met and are committed to keeping the Nix up and running in the A-League whatever the outcome of Terrys financial situation.

So there we have it. We will have our beloved Nix playing next season. Either Terrys $100 million turns up or NZF will take charge.

I really hope that Terry and the IRD sort out there stuff ASAP. The club needs to move on. We have players and support staff to sign. This will send a big signal that it will be business as usual for the Nix next season.

Best news I have heard for months!!!!!

They don't have all their money tied up property assets.

That's because they don't have the money to start with!

Called it.

Pretty obvious solution.

yay, even if they do have different owners running the club I doubt it will make much of a difference, especially if the same squad is retained.

A lot of questions still to be answered , but it's great news.

If things dont work out for Terry, and the new buyer is an Aucklander,
there must be the possibility that the base could move North.

Serious question is their a smaller less expensive ground say 10 to 12 K to play at other than the ring in Wellie

Nope

If you didn't want people to turn up...the stadium is right by all public transport. Moving games anywhere else in Wellington would lead to it being taken less seriously, leading to people not turning up.

I have already bought a new knitting pattern (a lovely Nix tea cosy).

What's the minimum ground size for an A-League club?

Being a member of the Christchurch branch of YF, I haven't been to the Ring of Fire for a nix game (YET!!!!). During regular season games do they only use part of the RoF when they expect a crowd of, say, 10000 or less? They do that at AMI, hence reducing stadium costs (less security, merchandise, food and drink stalls to staff etc)>

Doesn't really apply at RoF, as there is a single circular concourse. They won't open concessions etc down the far end, but the west end is designated 'AWAY FANS' so that tends to need to be open.

With the special lounges for Delloite club etc, most of the ground ends up being open.

I thought they did tape off the opposite side to the Yellow Fever?
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
They do tape off around from aisles 1 to about 10 (the bottom left corner on TV).  People still sit on the halfway on the near side of the field, behind the team benches (in the shade)

The only times aisles 1 - 10 have had people in them was the LA Galaxy game, and the Jets game in 2010.

I would much rather people over react about something

I think FFA are in the middle of a re think about stadiums... it is becoming very clear most teams are at stadiums to big for week to week games and paying 200, 000 for a stadium for a night needs lots of folk to make it break even...

My guess given the size of your crowds if their was a 12 to 15 K stadium at one third the cost my reading of the tea leafs is FFA would approve the move....
