Why do you think that?

There's a myriad of reasons. The club won't pay good money to decent players, there is hardly a complete squad assembled, we have a coach in his first season at the helm of a club, the future of the club is uncertain and nobody wants to move their family to Wellington.

Why? If you're referring to the licence issue, imports are often only on a one year deal anyway? I'd have thought it would actually be less of a big deal than for a NZ or Australian player looking for a bit more stability.

Lack of willingness to invest, lack of job security, new coach with no history, small squad with very few older 'known' players (I find this is actually a big deal when trying to get these guys over the line), better options at basically every other A-League club

Where do you get the idea the club don't pay? You think Rossi and Taylor came here for peanuts? You think Krishna wasn't one of the best paid forwards in the league inside a cap?

Last season our squad salary bill was similar to Brisbane and Adelaide and way ahead of Central Coast and Newcastle, despite not using the marquee spot because the FFA are fudgeing morons.

We were never going to match the Perth cap cheats, Sydney or Victory because the other sides in the league just aren't - City will probably pay out more for a sharkter squad simply because they have the City name. Other than that though here is no evidence other than the ramblings of a man who was engineering his exit and trying to hide his lack of integrity to say our squad investment is less than the other 6 sides in the league (chucked WU in there).

One thing that concerns me is that Talay wants more New Zealanders at the Nix. Now that the FFA have told the Fifa International window to get fudgeed, Should we have a large contingent of players playing for NZ, won't it affect our ability to put out a strong team whilst they are away - Not that we get any International games but in theory. I don't want us gifting other teams 3 points because we could only field an under strength team because of International commitments.

The investment one really frustrates me, where have you got your figures from or are you just deciding thats the case? Didnt Rudan mention at the start that the coffers were open for him to assemble who he wanted and he was purposly leaving money aside for Jan etc?? it was only when he wanted out and was trying to produce a pro rudan image the story changed.

If there is some facts around this, not just media when it suites them to bad mouth us but facts please let us know, enlighten us?? I have heard the media stuff as well but I have also seen the academy with full time coaching staff, all the money thats has gone into the "extras" that happens that is the owners money, FFA aint paying for that.

Need to get Stephen Taylor to invite some of his mates to join him here. He made noises last year about plenty of interest in the UK to come and play in the A League and UK players seem to settle here better than others.

The whole "Welnix = cheapskates" meme is one of those memes which is so ingrained in public consciousness that it doesn't need evidence. "Everyone knows" it's true. I think it stems from a misreading of the reluctance to shell out for some superannuated Eurotrash to be our marquee.

Volunteering to buy out Welnix, and invest your personal hard earned into a "business" that bleed's cash every day?

Perhaps pay the $1M 'fine' to FFA on their behalf, so they no longer just squat on their licence?

I read Trevor Zwelsloot is off contract - I think he would be worth bring down to look at for a trial. Is a kiwi, and can play CB/DM so would add depth.

I thought it turned out it wasn't actually a fine but that it was in their contract that the FFA would withhold $1 million from the TV deal if the Phoenix didn't hit their metrics.

Worst possible time for him to get an injury like that.

That's tough luck.

There's a wee bit of a curse, on finding some guys overseas with Kiwi lineage, and them barely playing a game for AWs/underage before they do their ACL.

Henry Cameron, Liam Graham, and now Zwelsloot.

Whatever happened to Graham? Still only 26.

No, I didn't clarify - I mean lack of willingness to invest because of our situation. Until that's sorted, we can't put our best foot forward.

The 1 mill fine won't help things either.

The fine v TV money thing is just semantics - if anything, that is even more encouragement to spend less of the cap to lessen the burden of the fine.

Well it's not semantics because it's not a lump sum that the Phoenix have to hand over, instead it's a reduction in income. Presumably the Phoenix new it was coming and budgeted accordingly, it was obvious since Darije was in charge that the Phoenix wouldn't hit metrics and expectations would have been low for Rudan. The Phoenix have said it's a non issue so it's a non issue.

Okazaki is keen on an A-League move. Apparently he would be available for much less than the arrogant Keisuke Honda, so he would probably be a viable option for a league clubs. Maybe still a bit too much for us though

As a Leicester supporter seen a lot of him over the last few years, a good player and will work super hard for the team. Wasn't the most prolific at Leicester but I think in the A-League he'd find it a lot easier to score plus he'd probs be used as the main man rather then second to vardy.

Re the Singh move to Bayern’s second team in third tier of German football one must remember when Singh played alongside Liam Jordan in the Nike Cup Liam was head and shoulders better than anyone else in that team and even with Liams talent is only playing Danish second division.

Having watched them both develop, Singh has come along at a rapid rate in the last season. Liam was brilliant, but to be fair was fully grown man at 14, whereas Singh was tiny. Singh used to fall over every time he went into the box, and gain penalties for Onehunga, it drove opposition players mad( and us opposition parents). That is no longer his minus operandi!

From the Phoenix City Domey pod on one of the foreign players the clubs talking to:

"I don't want to jinx it but one of these players could definitely be one of the best players in the league I genuinely believe that."

Seems like they're talking to a player that Domey rates highly enough to make a call like that. He seemed genuinely excited about it, rather than just the 'we've got some good players on the way.'

If his instagram is anything to go by it looks like he's been training the house down over there in that heat. Still under contract too so I'd be surprised if he wasn't back or was angling for a move away.

Wonder if he's had a chat with Declan Rice about Wellington? ??
