Can I read between the lines and say that Taylor has agitated for a release?

The way I read this in the room at the time is that Domey just forgot about Taylor, and its 3 signings in progress, and one more that will take a while as they havent found the player yet. As in - Domey forgot they didnt have to fill all 5 spots, they only have to fill 4.

When I mentioned Taylor a little bit later it seemed like a penny dropped and Domey had just overlooked him in his head.

Fair enough, I did post that before I got to the end of the pod and I believe he mentioned Taylor and DeVere.

Maybe I just thought we had a dearth of drama around here over the last day or so...

Either way, will be interesting to see how motivated he is this season after likely wanting to leave.

Who knows, he apparently has a history of having a good first season and a bad second but, he's raved about the club and city for a long time and was positive in his re-signing/extension press release.

From the Phoenix City Domey pod on one of the foreign players the clubs talking to:

"I don't want to jinx it but one of these players could definitely be one of the best players in the league I genuinely believe that."

Seems like they're talking to a player that Domey rates highly enough to make a call like that. He seemed genuinely excited about it, rather than just the 'we've got some good players on the way.'

Whoever it is, sounds like they will tear up the a-league.

I thought I remember an article by AV or Phillip Rollo indicating that Taylor was looking to leave but his extension was triggered?

All I can say if I was in a team and the entire squad basically left, along with the coach, I would probably not be feeling that enthused for the next season. It would feel like all my mates went on to bigger and better things and I was stuck.

Obviously that's just projecting though; who knows how he actually feels.

He should be used to it though given the merry-go-round that's British Football.

Uffie on 1 News just now saying a couple of imports are close now and we'll see in the next week - Wonder if that'll be the announcements or just getting the players to sign on the dotted line. It's getting exciting now.

Uffie also spoke about the pathways that could open for our youngsters (especially Singh to Bayern) and that it was good that we've got  young kiwis in the squad who will look to cut their teeth in the A-League before jumping feet first into European moves.

Started with doom and gloom about us losing the best players but Uffie followed up with positive and no-nonsense comments.

Basically Patrick if any one read that post who did not not know about football, they would think your mate Domey was a space cadet, which is correct

Awesome news once confirmed.

Guess playing Swedish pub league football didn't really get the heart racing in his attempt to put himself in the shop window in Europe.

Be interesting to look at it and see if McCowatt signing with us actually made Pijnaker rethink his options.

I would be very happy if it's true. Then he would be thinking Bayern Munich might be watching him.

I assume by Nando you mean Pijnaker and not any sort of chicken restaurant?

Out of our defence, I was definitely most impressed by him at the U20 WC. It's tough for a young CB to come in and do well, though; but will be a good bench option behind DeVere/Taylor.

For what it's worth I've heard the same thing, this coming from the same source who told me McCowatt was on the verge of signing.

Interesting that these guys have signed around the same time. Reckon McCowatt signing has made the others take notice.

I wonder if in latter stages of U20s WC there were any whispers in camp about Singh & Bayern. Sapreet didn't return to NZ, post WC? Went straight to Germany? Wonder when he was first made aware of Bayern's interest.

Would have been hard to keep such exciting news to himself. And such a good news story for NZ football as a whole, why wouldn't Des share it quietly amongst the group if they knew early on.

Would have started some of the unattached Ole boys thinking, wow maybe Nix is the right path.

Certainly Talay touches on it in his interview, as great leverage now when trying to entice young Kiwi footballers to sign. 2-3 years of regular first team football in the A League, and then as a 23 year old you have a very handy CV for your agent to throw around Europe.

Good news all round.

Yep, Singh going to Bayern is the best marketing the club could ask for.

Have to say, I think McCowatt has made a very sensible decision by signing with us - exactly like Uffie was saying in his interview, sign with us, get some exposure to a professional environment and who knows what could happen in 2/3/4 seasons time. His decision to wait until after the U20 WC, and weighing up his options over time will serve him well in the long run. It show's a lot of maturity and a good thought process from the young lad too. He didn't jump at the first offer from Helsingor in Denmark and has considered what will be good for him to get where he wants to be.

Reckon it could be the signature we very well needed to help influence someone like Pijnaker who may have been toying with the idea of playing lower level football somewhere in Scandinavia.

Might help that Edge is out of the country in a different time zone as well.

Not that this is gonna be an issue for us but the three u20's spots in the squad rules have been changed to three u21's spots now in the new CBA. Also the Mature Aged Rookie contract has been scrapped [Sauce: Tony P]

We currently have 5; Cacace, Scott, Elliot, Singh & McCowatt.

Singh came back to New Zealand (via Melbourne) after the U20 World Cup.

Looks like Singh is definitely gone...

But $750,000 has gotta get us an a-league ready replacement place a shiny new (hopefully marquee) striker though.

Or just pay our fine to FFA.

Now that we are in business directly with Bayern Munich you'd think they could pull some strings on the import options for us in the Europe market.

Wonder what Nix would do if an offer also came in for Cacace now?

Offers have come in for Libby but he has decided he isn't ready to head overseas yet.

That's a good fee we're getting right there. Pretty much at the top end of what I thought we'd get for him so seems about fair, especially for a youngster coming through from the A-League.

Think the money will be reinvested evenly throughout the club. As tempting as it may be, it would be foolish to blow it all on a few player signings. Bank the money, reinvest in the academy & facilities, use some if needed to help with quality player signings, and let Welnix take a cut for their investment in the club.

I'm liking the additional add-on clauses too. Could turn out to be a transfer that has longer term benefits for our club, as well as a bright future in the game from one of our most promising talents which is a win/win for both parties really.
