Looks like Singh is definitely gone...

But $750,000 has gotta get us an a-league ready replacement place a shiny new (hopefully marquee) striker though.

Or just pay our fine to FFA.

I'm never going to get sick of headlines that have a team like Bayern Munich linked with a young kiwi star and the Phoenix. So fudgeing awesome.

It may be the third division but keep in mind that the club he's going to has won the champions league on more than one occasion and they're looking to stick him in the 1st team at some point...

You never now. He must just win the Champions League himself, get himself a 99 rated TOTY card in FIFA 26 and we'll be able to say "we may have just got the A-league wooden spoon for the third time in a row but we made Sarpreet Singh!"

Wonder what Nix would do if an offer also came in for Cacace now?

Offers have come in for Libby but he has decided he isn't ready to head overseas yet.

Not saying it's gonna happen - but if Juve/Roma/Inter/Napoli came with an offer?

Though of course playing for a big club's 2nd team in Italy, probably not as appealing as Germany. Lower tier Italian football seeming a bit shambolic.

If we are in for Pijnaker, it seems he's still lining up for Torslanda over in Sweden.

The starting XI against Gauthiod. Featuring no less than 4 Kiwi's - Keat, Wooldridge, Parker-Price and of course Pijnaker.

Must just be looking to keep his fitness levels up before making the trip back to NZ.

A-League transfer window opens on the 24th July & closes to 15th October, so he won't be able to come back to NZ for at least a month. Wonder if we are loaning him or he is able to terminate his contract?

Re Cacace, as far as I know only Juventus have a 2nd team in the third tier which is pretty much and U23 development side. None of the other teams mentioned before has one. I think he could do better and slot nicely into a serie B team.
Good call on his part not to go anywhere for another season I think. He is young and needs to develop further. He can use next season to do that and work on the mental side as well. So many youngsters take the leap too early and fail because they aren't mentally ready.

Doh, forgot that us playing Central League teams are not proper games, so the window really doesn't matter.

No news on the imports as of yet so may as well throw in some more conjecture. Looked to see who played for Newcastle with Stevie on the football united tour to see if any others from that team are off contract (huge long shot I know). Mehdi Abeid, Yoan Gouffran, Fabricio Coloccini and Emmanuel Riviere are all off contract. Coloccini is Dura's age now so probably wouldn't want him, but the other three would be decent. Gouffran is 33 and has just left Goztepe in the Turkish league, Riviere (29, striker) and Abeid (26, midfielder) both played in France last season, for Metz (Ligue 2) and Dijon (Ligue 1). All through weren't great at Newcastle (especially Riviere) but would be pretty decent in the A-League.

Of course the likelihood that we're interested in any of these blokes is slim, but we've heard no rumours yet, so fudge it.

Who else here thinks we should sign Aaron Clapham?

Also to add to that, Vurnon Anita is still contracted with Leeds but was sent out on loan to the Eredivisie last season and it might be difficult for him to get back into the team, so maybe he could come on down

Gouffran is not a terrible shout considering he is coming from the Turkish league and Ufuk has connections there.

Dimitar Berbatov is a free agent. Sure he’s 38 but I’d pay just to see him pluck long balls out of the air on a dime.

At 38 years old, I'm confident he'd still absolutely wreck A-League defences. Great player.

Regarding record transfer fees, what did we get for McKain? I remember talk of 7 figures but not sure if that was what he was going to get or the transfer fee.

Yeah I heard it was seven figures but the stuff article said Sarpreet was 750k-1 million and was the biggest fee the Phoenix have ever got. Maybe they're including addons in that

or just maybe the quality of reporters in NZ means that they have forgotten about the McKain transfer?

So apparently Ufuk Talay was at the LH vs Miramar game tonight. Wonder if he saw anything that interests him. In my opinion Taylor Schrivers was the best player on the field and like looked great in a holding mid role. Stevens and JHS also looking very dangerous.

Schrijvers was outstanding in the World Club cup game in UAE in Dec. Someone said he was only 21. Played with a lot of confidence for such a big game. The Handa games I have seen,  he is always so consistently good at the back. Plays off both feet. Good speed too!  Worth giving a go??

JHS - Have seen some great games from him and some not so great games. Thinks hes around 21 as well. But could be handy.

Stevens - OK at times. Can be greedy and cost possession.

Schrijvers will turn 23 later this year. JHS is 21. I'd very happily have Schrijvers as another CB option, and I'd also like to see JHS at least be given an opportunity to trial, but as a wide player and not a forward like last year. Though I think that Talay's intention of playing a back 4 probably makes it a bit more difficult for JHS to break in this season.

Agree with Boxy. Would take Taylor S and Jack HS as squaddies who could possibly do a Libby and turn into starters...
Not sure about Stevens.. He holds his own in the Handy but he's had opportunities both with the Nix and in Europe and has failed to leave a mark. He's soon approaching Watto-land so if he doesn't make it soon he might never turn pro

Domey saying its more than we got for Burns or McKain. Does that mean 7 figures then?

Valley FC til I die?

Permalink Permalink

I seem to recall a presser when Burns went to Japan and Merrick was asked if the fee was $1,000,000 or thereabouts by a reporter, he said something along the lines of 'If we'd got an offer of a million for Burns, you can have him and a few of the academy boys too!'

Well, either way, both Burns' and McKain's fee's have been usurped now, and by a young Kiwi no less, great going!

We're putting together a brand new team aren't we?  From last year's best XI it's likely only Taylor, Libby and Rufer will be back next year.  Maybe Louis Fenton but I'm not sure he's a right back in a 4.

Quite a bit of player traffic between India and the A-league this off-season. Also, former Chelsea 'player'.

He's an attacking midfielder, a Singh type replacement? Looks as though this guy is even shorter too...

At a stretch, a fill in winger too & a bit of a journeyman, been around some good clubs, but don't feel he's really cracked it anywhere so far. Will reserve judgement until have seen him get a few games under his belt.

"Ulises worked well, he did not look too bad, but he needs a lot of rhythm, today we have players in a much better rhythm than him, the coaching staff analyzed him together with the institution, he could hardly play with the team, and he was better left in freedom to look for another club where I can have activity, "said a source close to the institution.

He had been trialing with Chivas the last 4 weeks but they passed on him. Not sure what to make of that quote, he was good but not good enough to be a first teamer so was allowed to look elsewhere?

He was supposed to be a future star for Mexico when he was young but never fulfilled his potential (shades of bruno fornaroli in that sense). Looks great on the ball, a good age too. Theres a reason he was on the books at chelsea for four years, even if he never got a game. Cautiously excited to see if he can deliver the goods. Dont forget he was on trial with CD Guadalajara who play in the mexican top flight, which is miles better than the a league. I know it didnt work out but thats supposedly because he didnt want to be just a squad player
