Love that contract length. Bags of potential, and means that if he has a really good season this year or next we either have him for a further third season or sell him and get a fee. Coming from Serie C too i doubt he will be on big coin. Really good business

Reno is definitely on the way to Wellington going by his recent Instagram story showing him on the flight with ticket.

Great news. I've really been happy with our recruitment so far; only thing we're missing is another striker and *maybe* another local RB.

Are there any compelling RB candidates locally? Even including Aussies seems like the pool is pretty light. We don't really have any good cover in the squad and with Fenton's record we'll probably need some. Seems like the weakest position in squad squad at the moment.

This article suggests we paid 100k Euros for him. Guess sorting out the compensation was the reason why it took awhile. https://www.tuttob.com/esclusive-tb/esclusiva-tb-niente-livorno-piscopo-vola-in-australia-113487

Clearly believe we will be here long time as a club and a move I'm sure with a view to on selling later all things going well.

Squad us beginning tO shape up nicely.

Transfer fees are included in the salary cap hit of a player, so probably just eats away at the visa striker fund if we did pay a transfer fee for him.

NZ striker / right midfield Mohammed Awad currently playing for Melbourne Knights.

Hamilton raised; Ole Academy as teenager.

Came through the US university system (five years there).

I thought he looked good playing for Eastern Suburbs last NZ summer.

Attracting a bit of attention in Oz:

Worth a look at considering he counts as a local?

He was rumoured to be coming to trial but for some reason that never happened.

Bozza disagrees

Piscopo takes the position that we would have considered Awad for, so there is no chance. Our targets should be a couple of strikers from now on & if a RB comes up, maybe one of those.

Piscopo will be a vital part of January’s campaign, so it will be hoped for Australia's sake that he's allowed to play in the tournament set for Bangkok.

I'm sure Domey will love to see the FFA come groveling to ask us to release him.

I'm sure they'll do a Burnzie with him, turn Piscopo from a winger into a striker, or 10 with Ball and McCowatt in front of him.

As for right-back, what ever happened to Brock Messenger, thought he was handy.

Went from Canterbury United to FF Jaro in Finland for one season in 2017.

Then at Eastern Suburbs in Handa Premiership 2017-18

Brisbane Strikers 2018 in Queensland NPL.

Spent the whole of last ISP Handa Premiership injured back at Canterbury United.

You are not paying 100k Euros for an Olyroo to be playing him in the WeeNix. He replaces Devlin in the predicted starting XI

That would be spread over the length of the contract? So over 3 years, it doesn't eat away that much.

Transfer fee confirmed

Sounds like Livorno were also very interested, but were mucking around too much, so Renate looked further afield and us throwing the E100k made the difference.

Also, we can just go outside the cap by 100k and designate one player as a marquee as we've done in the past. For us the cap isn't the issue as much as the budget, there's plenty of exceptions that we don't exploit as much as the big city teams.

Yeah the salary cap is a myth.

Demonstrates commitment by the ownership to invest further and meaningfully in players now their place is secure in the league. I'm very happy.

Wording around this fee has been quite deliberate, I think. My guess is that it's highly unlikely that we've paid 100k euros up front for him. But, I could believe that we've perhaps paid 50k euros now, followed by another chunk or two over the length of the contract. Plus, it's possible the 100k euros number includes an assumed on-sell fee, should that materialise.

It's not quite as unbelievable as Auckland getting its act together again and supporting a new A-league franchise anyway! ;)

Adelaide have paid similar this off-season; it's not outside the realms of possibility.

Heard Reno talking on the Soccer Stoppage Time show and he confirmed he arrives in Wellington on Wednesday. Also confirmed a transfer fee was paid for him. Super exciting news and huge for the Nix to have made this deal

Not sure that's right. Nix's owners have a level of certainty now that they've never had before. Owners have had plenty of shark investments in their time - that's part of the game in having some good ones that work out.
