Not sure if Marinovic is a better option than Sail, but we'll find out soon.

Marinovic has played dozens of games in leagues better than a-league, where Sail has only played as back up. He has also looked class for All Whites. Imo Marinovic is clearly a better option.

While I'm pleased to see another Kiwi back at the Phoenix, this is a pretty generous interpretation of his club career.  He'

s generally struggled to hold down a first team place and most of his football was in the MLS which isn't a great standard

MLS is leaps and bounds better than the A-League though.

he's played 32 games in the MLS - so two dozen rather than dozens!

before that he was playing 5th or 6th tier German football

4th tier (maybe even up to third)

If Legia offers a free transfer then we'd need to pay his full wages - all depends on what he is worth to us (or to the Bitumens).

Remember it all also involves some sort of a womens' rugby comp placement for his partner, for him to go anywhere.

My understanding is that he was cut because the new coach didn't want to use an import slot on a foreigner, not because he wasn't good enough though.

There are very few Visa spots used on keepers in the MLS, a bit like the A League.

Pretty hard to use an import slot on someone who's not a foreigner...but we all know what you meant.

Would Conor Washington be any good for the Nix. Scored heaps for the posh, did ok at QPR, Went to Sheff United and now that they are up, heard a whisper he might be off to HN's beloved Ipswich. Might not have scored goals at QPR but put in a good shift and kept on trying. Could be cheap and worth a look.

I want a solid DM and CB first, then a RB and then maybe a natural wide player to finish it off.

I want;

backup RB

another two CBs at least (depending on Dura retirement)

two forward players (one main striker) if Krishna/Williams leave

a GK

one major signing at CM

basically, an entirely new team.

Which in fairness, is what we need due to number of off contract players. There's a few depending ons in there, which I hope stay.

Does anyone rate Nick Cowburn from the Jets? He was released the other week.

Never seen him play, but over 60 A-League games isn't bad. Can play RB and DM

Its a no from me, bang average player at best. Would rather we pick up someone like TAHW instead.

I agree with RR on this. Most of the games I've seen he was either subbed in or subbed off.

Had some good moments but essentially a squaddie rather than a winner. Hope we're not that desperate yet.

Nope, City have him. That's the bloke's 5th a league club at the age of 24, he's on track to break Liam reddy's record I reckon

Our scouting last year was great, pulled out some players from decent leagues. Was that Rudan or has the club got connections? Hopefully we can do the same

I’d be keen to find a few more Euros with Kiwi connections if we can. Someone like Ben Chilwell - far too good for the league of course, but he’s a regular English international and even then it wasn’t common knowledge that his dad was a Kiwi until very recently. Surely there’s more Bens and Themis scattered across the European leagues so we can pick up a couple domestic options?

Just seen that Jason Puncheon has been released by Crystal Palace. Definitely would be a long shot, but he'd tear up this league. If we can't keep Roy, we'll have a fair chunk of cash freed up (especially if Burns goes too). A man can dream!

Puncheon would not 'tear up this league'. I feel like I hear this about literally every 'known' overseas player.

Not sure why people bag Galloway so heavily under kalezic when other players, e.g. Krishna, also had a shark season. Galloway seems okay standard for A league to me. Not many right backs tearing it up.

Galloway had a rough time here but that might be less to do with him and more about the environment that year.

I admit that I simply remembered his less than stellar performances for us. Was prone to fouling when outplayed.

Can there be anything inferred if players such as Kopa/Sheridan haven't disappeared back to Europe to visit their family etc and are still in the country, or are they contractually obliged to still be here and available for community activities etc until a certain date?

The contracts technically end on May 31st, but at the very least the players may just be sticking around for awards night next Wednesday and then heading home.

Looking forward. Sydney FC (a complete B side surely) finish their season with an ACL game next Tuesday against Kawasaki Frontale.

So Ufuk should be ready to start the whole recruiting drive in earnest from next week. Though I suppose like everyone he's entitled to a few weeks holiday.

Anyway if Michael Fitzgerald is in Sydney town for the ACL game, worth a ten minute chat on what his plans are. Longshot but again in a year or so he might be a prospect, esp if the Qatar WC gets expanded, and Oceania is given automatic entry.
