?????  I suppose it's a very good way to shut people up who call out bad behaviour to suggest that they're motivated by "hate", put them on the defensive and all that.

Seriously, "why did she not have money?" She's Cambodian living in Cambodia. You know, one of those countries which is so grindingly poor that sleeping with four young foreigners in exchange for football tickets seems like a good deal. Last time I was in Thailand cab fare was less than bus fare in NZ, and I'm sure Cambodia is similar.

Kicking someone out the door with no cab fare in a crime-ridden Third World city is asshole behaviour, end of story. Or, as the FFA rightly decided, unprofessional behaviour.

Cambodia is way cheaper (and poorer) than Thailand. If people think that four young Western guys (though important to note that they're not kids, they're all in their 20s) and a lone young Cambodian woman is a full consensual, nothing to see here situation, then they're very naive.

who gives a flying fudge, he’s a good player. only reason people care is because the FFA felt it necessary to ban him and others - all power to them, not a good image for Aussies abroad, bit of a “be more careful” plea, but says absolutely nothing about his character or ability on a football pitch

I’m following NZP on not focusing on this and I hope others will too

I wouldn't say that is the only reason, nor that it says absolutely nothing about his character. It is reputational and brand risk for the club. You know, that club appealing to families and kids, to grow crowds and help with financial stability.

FFA would have similar concerns, know more about this than we do, and we know what action they took.

Not saying we shouldn't sign the guy, or that he hasn't learnt or can't go forward from here with the club. But if the club isn't wanting to manage this carefully and isn't concerned about the media that this has already got, and doesn't have contract clauses that cover expected behaviour, and discussed those expectations with the player, and how they intend to manage media questions about this, I'll eat my hat.

Have to agree with this comment. My only further comment is it is not like we do not have Kiwi players who could do exactly the role they are signing him for, and many have been mentioned. Why buy the risk when we have others out there?

Not trying to diminish what he and the others did but think some of you seem to be reading from an incident report that hasnt been written and are making judgement calls on  subject you arnt aware of all the facts on.

I would be very surprised if Talay hasnt done his home work on the guy and discussed things with him,so if Talay thinks he is still worth it then i trust his judgement.

Relationship with the coach is important and Talay wants him. Reckon continuity with Greenie has helped some of our youngsters develop.

Brandon Wilson by the looks of it.

Who would we take out of him, Lewis and Musa?

Not necessarily anyone, we're strengthening the squad.

Wilson and Lewis play different roles, so signing one doesn't rule out the other. We have 2 roster spots (plus the IR for Fenton), there is nothing stopping us picking up Wilson and Lewis. The ship has sailed on Musa, we couldn't promise any contract offer would come from him training here so he opted to stay in the States to explore other options.

If Ball's injury is major, does that increase chances of Lewis being offered a contract (possibly short term), esp with Piscopo also away for January?

For all those that don't want this kid, are they prepared to tell Taylor to bugger off then? Are we going to trawl over the entire history of the Phoenix and not find ANYONE that has not done something similar but unreported?

There will be other stories of players doing things like this that have not gotten out into public awareness so if we start judging players by what they do in the public eye and wanting players fired, there will be just as many doing the exact same thing in private. We'd have no team at the end of it. Is there more to this story than is in public? I'd bet on more than likely. No sex story is ever as straight forward as reported but this is an issue of peoples morality of what happened vs anything criminal that happened.

Look over your fence at your neighbour and tell me you know everything they get up to an approve - are you going to move or tell them to move? There will be people in your office at work that will do the exact same. Let he who is without sin, cast the 1st stone but I don't think we should be pitchforking the kid cause he played away and did something dumb (and thats all this is - dumb. Not criminal) If people want to outrage about morality, fine and I suspect there will be a few hypocrites along  the way but don't build this kid into a criminal.

If this kid can play football, hand out lollipops to kids and keep his nose clean, sign him. He is a footballer, not a role model or a saint and people always blur those lines or be hypocritical about it

Some players are late bloomers, speed and strength are in some ways innate, skills are learnt.

Yeah I do wonder if statements like the above are something of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you don’t have a good touch by 24 it’s not going to happen. So if you have a bad touch at 25, coaches write a player off and stop paying attention, players realise this so don’t train so hard and go play social football.

Whereas if that rule of thumb didn’t exist, maybe coaches wouldn’t stop paying attention then late bloomers could keep working hard at their touch and improve to the point where they can play professionally.

Lets just hope that us signing a player with recent questionable morals works out better than it did for the Breakers.

Has promise for on the field ability, gives good cover in positions that we need it.

I was horrendously wrong about Davila based on his first game. But having said that, he was appalling in his first game, and Ufuk immediately shifted his position to a CAM which massively reduced his defensive responsibilities and gave him the option to float in between the lines and set up our attacks.  I still think he would be not great out wide in our system.

I don't see why we need Wilson.

He's not a (natural) right back, which is the only position which obviously needs strengthening.

Central midfield already has plenty of competition for spots.

He's not likely to push any of our starters out.

Nothing wrong with depth. I bet Western are thankful they've got about a dozen CBs on the books right about now!

Wellington Phoenix Head Coach Ufuk Talay has confirmed that the signing of Brandon Wilson was the last of any transfer activity for the Nix. He has also ruled out signing All Whites winger Marco Rojas saying that no approach was made. Rojas is weighing up a return to the A-League.

Other news: Luke DeVere, Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi, Liam McGing are keen to extend their contracts.
